  1. i would pick up and fm converter for about 30-50 bux and hook it to your mp3 player and listen to your mp3's thru your radio. Most fm transmitters will let you select your frquency and then just dial your bikes radio to that "station". Anyone around you will be able to tune in to your lil fm station but theyll hafta know your frequency, but who cares if they wanna listen or not. You can put everything in your trunk so its an invisible install for you. I used this on my sirius radio in my truck for quite a while and it worked well, not quite as clear as straight cd or mp3 but on a bike you cant tell anyway.... Brian:cool10:
  2. You guys always want pics so here are some pics from my trip to Nova Scotia last week. Its mostly around the hotel in Dartmouth and over Halifax downtown. We also took a cage to Peggys Cove, around to the Swiss Air memeorial site and then all around St. Margarets bay to Mahone Bay and Lunenburg. It was a gorgeous drive and the highway was good most of the way with just a bit of construction and road delays just outside of Peggys Cove. I was wishing I had rented a bike throught the whole drive...lol Here is the link to my picasa web http://picasaweb.google.ca/friesman1/HalifaxJune2008 Brian:cool10:
  3. I had a similar incident 2 evenings before coming out of Regina Beach headed back into Regina. JUst making the corner by the Buena Vista Beach road, where it drops down into a valley there were 3 deer , 2 in my lane and one gazing the grass on the edge. I managed to get around them into the opposing lane while slamming on the brakes, but it was fairly close! I was still doing about 25mph going past them....sure makes sure adrenalin run for a bit! It seems there are more deer moving around this year for some reason, or maybe there are just more deer!! Any hunters wanna come on up here in the season, we can probably point you into a good direction to find some...lol Brian :cool10:
  4. HEY I bewlieive the rule around here is pics,, and lots of them. We all wanna have a look.
  5. the best thing I have ever found for removeing smells from things was coffee. When I was selling appliances years ago we occasionally would get fridges in that were returned and even though they looked clean they still had a terrible odour. We would take a cookie sheet and spread fresh coffee grounds on it about 1/4 in deep all over and put it in the fridge for a couple of days and it always got all the smell out. I have since used it in cars, trailers and it works to freshen the smell, but I dont think I would drink the coffee after using it for this. Although I would advise against using this before crossing the border, one time had everything hauled out of the car at customs and was told its because drugs get smuggled in packed in coffee to try and hide it from the sniffer dogs. 6. It truly is a gorgeous place to go, I have been there several times. But never with my ride. Next time I want to find somewhere to rent a ride to be able to take advantage of those great rides like the one around St Margarets bay around to Lunenburg. When i was there last week it was a fantastic drive, but the whole trip I was thinking that I shoulda found a bike...Oh well...theres always next time. Brian
  7. Since ive totally updated all availble plugins and hotfixes for Vista on my new toshiba laptop the issues with IE7 loading webpages have totally gone away. Before the updates pages would hang and only load halfway before having to reload. Anyway try doing your microsoft updates, it helped me out. PS ive just remembered that I get similar errors when I try to view ventureriders while I am working on my w2k3 server. IE7 has trouble loading certain things and I get errors even when the page looks like it loads correctly, plus it never remembers my login, BUT I have the security tightened up on the server and dont allow java script to run on it so thats what I am expecting on that machine. Perhaps Goose's issues are with his settings not the site. I would suggest he download Firefox and see what happens. Brian
  8. Well, at least I am hoping it was an accident and not some wacko on a mission known only to him. I hope everything turns out as well as can be expected for the riders. Brian
  9. Just so you are all in the loop. I took the unit back to the Sony store in the MIcMac mall in Halifax as I was going to be there on vacation and there isnt a Sony store here as Sony has closed it. The service in the Sony store was excellent and the staff were great when I want ed to return the unit that they didnt even carry in that Store. PLUS he did the whole transaction before the store opened as he saw me sitting outside with the box and walked out to see if he could help me out.(the poor guy hadnt even had coffee yet). So i got my money back and went to one of the retailers in Hailfax and bought a Kenwood excelon kdc-x592 as well as a marine cover to protect it. I did the install a couple of days ago and its great. it has about a 6 inch cable for USB/ipod hookups and ipod control so i just leave the ipod under my top panel (attached with vecro to the side of the box) so its out of sight and I never have to fiddle with it and worry that someone will just walk by and "set it free". The Kenwood is a much nicer deck to use on the bike with gloves on as almost everything is controlled with 2 round knobs, not the small tiny buttons like the Sony unit had. All in all everything worked out well, and I am now a happy camper with my sound system again except for the up top controls for volume.... I miss that more than i though I would. I have to explore the option that the kenwood has that allows certain cars to use the sterring wheel sound controls on this deck and see if it will work for me here. Brian:mo money:
  10. I am so happy youre both ok. the venture can be fixed, and the ankle will heal. Congrats on being such a great driver and rider combo. Brian:cool10:
  11. I did the 4 inch pioneer upgrade on mine 2 weeks ago, they will handle about 50 watts I think they sound pretty good (but after the stocks that were blown anything woulda sounded good) but there isnt much low end. I also replaced my OEM cassette/radio with a Kenwood unit at the same time so I cant really tell you how much better they would be on the original equipment. But what can you expect for a 4 inch speaker. I have heard that the Bose speakers give a bit better low end response and really arent a lot more money mine were 50 bux, Ive heard the bose are 80-90 range. The speakers come out fairly easily by removing all the screws for the top panels on both sides of your fairing. Have a look, heres a couple of pics from when I swapped out my OEM system. http://picasaweb.google.com/friesman1/Audioswap_08. I dont want to be the bearer of bad news, but the speaker blowing really wasnt my issue, the amp had crapped out on my left channel so the speaker really wasnt all of my problem, as I swapped out speakers first and it solved some, but not all of my problems with mysound, so I decided to change it all out. PS i really do miss the speed sensitive sound and the up front controls on my new deck although there is a port on the back of the deck for steering wheel controls for some model cars, so I am gonna explore that option to hook up the 1st gen handle bar controls for volume. 12. That surprises me that the warranty isnt good on both sides of the border as it is essentially the same warranty , not like a tv where canadian sold stuff generally has a longer and slightly different warranty. I do think you should be covered in the States, but Ive been wrong on a thing or two in my time, I would call the dealer close to you amd maybe also yamaha canada, to ask them that question yourself. But it just means you get to do a run into the states for warranty purposes , sometimes you might need an excuse for a run.... lol Enjoy your ride, I am sure you will. it is a nice piece of machinery. Brian:cool10:
  13. I hope everyone that is close to the fires around Big Sur and area are doing well and are all safe . I was looking at the Nepenthe Restaurant in Big Sur webcam today and it looks soo smoky. I hope the fire isnt destroying all that gorgeous park area all up and down the coast. Brian
  14. I ordered my clearview xxl (light grey tint and vent)for my 85 1st gen about a month ago and havnt heard about shipping yet.... , but on the upside, It hasnt appeared on my credit card yet either. I cant wait to get it installed as they previous owner cheaped out and put a small slipstream windshield on it and my whole head and neck is over the top of the windshield and with my open face helmet I get buffered constantly
  15. great looking bike , the glorious maxie brown 85's are the fastest you know.lol!
  16. I had a similar experience with Air Canada a few years ago and will never fly them ever again. I have had nothing but good expereinces with their competitor, WestJet and will use them every chance I can. Air Canada was sticking it to us for pricing also until WestJet came on the scene so I feel its doubly important to support anyone but Air Canada. I just got back from Halifax on Wed and had great service and happy people running the WestJet flights I took there and back. Brian:cool10:
  17. In the video, I was surprised how many of the pictures looked like parts of Saskatchewan. (in the summertime,,,lol) That was a cool video, I think it would be a great place to have a rally (not in the height of summer from what Ive heard tho) Brian:cool10:
  18. I wonder how will they handle out of state people buying bikes to take out of the area>? Brian:cool10:
  19. Am so glad youre ok, too bad about your ride. When you have time to make an inventory of what you need for parts let us know, I am sure all us 1st gen riders seem to have parts kicking around and will be able to help you out for some of them. I wish you good luck with the insurance companies..........i hope you dont need it. Brian
  20. I agree with jt and mini muffin that the moderators are doing a necessary, thankless and good job. Thanks guys! Brian
  21. if you ever feel you are forgetting how that was done just drop me a line and I would be happy to let you refresh your memory on my 85! Brian:cool10:
  22. You guys are making the decision on whether I return the unit or not VERY EASY, LOL!! ok, ok ok, message recieved.. do you have a better unit in mind that you would use yourself? Brian:cool10:
  23. After sending emails to a few people at Sony head office I got the ok to get a straight exchange or refund ( I havnt decided which yet) over the counter at my closest Sony Store, the trouble is the closest is over 2 1/2 hour drive from here. So, as I am going to be in Hailfax for the next few days I asked if i could exchange or get the refund at the Sony Store in one of the Halifax locations (only a 4 hour flight..lol) and they agreed. So when I get home next week I should be able to have tunes on my ride. woo hoo! That sure goes to prove that the squeaky wheel gets the grease. Anyway here are the pics of the operation on my 85 VR, http://picasaweb.google.com/friesman1/Audioswap_08 I hope its ok to do the pics this way, i just thought it might take some of the load off the servers here. Brian:cool10:
  24. Ya didnt have to say it so mean....:rotf:.lots of guys around here have trouble with air in some fashion. Some bikes here do too. :rotf: Brian:cool10:
  25. It appears Sony is going to make me send a brand new deck back to Whitby Ontario at my expense, NOT THEIRS! They say its to verify that theres actually something wrong, hmmm does not having any lights or do anything mean theres something wrong? Plus I figure I will be without the unit at least a month to 6 weeks from what the person on the phone was saying. (its taken 36 hours so far just to get a call back to tell me i can even get an RMA to allow me to send it back. ...and still waiting.....) What a way to try and get business and look after your customers. I guess this will teach me to order online, but I thought Sony was a good enough well known name brand that their company online store should be able to look after any issues in a capable manner, but I guess I am wrong.
