  1. Sorry to hear about your hand, dont you hate it when your health interferes with something you really like to do? (the riding, not the fly zipping,,,,,lol):rotfl: I have never had the issue but a few friends have and I am happy to say that all of them are fine and pain free after the treatments, (and/or surgery), the only downside is that you prolly wont be able to ride for about 3 months or possibly more, so if you need surgery might be a good idea to push for an early date so you dont interfere with your riding season. Ride safe and get yourself well Brian
  2. Congtatualtions !!!! Its so nice to know all that money you got from that front fender emblem went to such agreat cause like a big ol'piece of jewellery. Brian:cool10:
  3. Nope, just make sure you have the bike standing straight up and then stand on the pad with your foot while pulling backwards on the passenger rail and handlebar. At first i found it a real pain to get the bike on the center stand but after a bit of practice of making sure the bike is not leaning (it makes it much harder to use the stand if the bike is leaning) it isnt too bad anymore as long as you have a boot on with a good solid sole. Brian
  4. you will have to do some floor reinforcement with the ebay one but the baxley will stand the bike up on its own without being attached to the floor. you drill just to keep it from rolling forward or back with baxley design. Brian
  5. Man you just never know when its going to happen. I hope Bob has a speedy recovery and gets out of the pain quickly. If a trailer is needed to get his bike and stuff home, I can bring my trailer down to help load the scoot up and get it home for him. If there is anything i can do to help please let me know. All my best thoughts and wishes headed your way Bob, get well soon. Brian
  6. One more thing that makes using the trailer so nice is the baxley LA trailer chock , its a little expensive but you only tie the bike down with 2 straps on the back so you dont bottom out your forks, by having to strap on the front. Also if you want to use the trailer for other stuff there is only 2 allen screws to take the chock out completely. Here is a link to them, they also have a vid if you want to watch. http://www.baxleycompanies.com/LAChock.html Brian
  7. I looked at a bunch of trailers before i bought my continental cargo 6x12 flat front and i found the vnose more money for less usable space. I thought i could go a lot of miles before i would pay for the extra money spent on the vfront on fuel. In fact theres some sources that say the v front doesnt save anything in fuel at all if youre towing it behind something like a pickup with a topper on as the air bubble is already established by your truck. I just got back from a 4000 mile trip to california and my trailer with 85 1st gen towed great behind my v6 2007 ford escape, with a hit of about 8 mpg over the whole trip compared with not towing anything. PS dont buy the black unless you like cleaning, it looks great when clean but those big flat sides look dirty all the time. Brian:cool10:
  8. Hi there, It looks like youre online now, and I am on a lunch break if you want to chat. If not, I will be around home tonight and prolly online in the early evening.

  9. Now that you describe it that way, its possible that is what has happened, as I was 1800 miles from home and trying to get it to a shop to have a look when it totally quit after making grinding noises. I knew i was doing damage but I wanted to get ol' brownie looked after... but I only made it 3 or 4 miles , if that.
  10. IT started making grinding noises but I was still able to move forward slowly and was trying to get the bike to a shop when the shaft broke and stopped all forward movement with a bang, So i think the gears were the issue first. Brian
  11. Another rider headed to PIP left my place in Regina late this morning on his way to Minnesota. I am not sure what time Rocket left here but he got in from Wainright at about 1 am this morning. Have a great weekend and ride safe! I wish I was riding with you guys but my scoot wont be together for a while yet unless I can print up my own money! LOL Brian
  12. Am sorry we missed a chance to meet face to face. That sucks about picking a bug somewhere to mess up your trip. I figure next year will be a good trip no matter where they decide to hold it. How about Klamath Falls for VWV? Brian
  13. Heres a pic that was taken last week at VWIV of Lone Eagle's scoot. I think its a Harley trunk and it has the side opening, its a sweet ride. Lone Eagle is the guy in the middle. http://picasaweb.google.ca/friesman1/VentureWestIV200802/photo#5239020323320499458 Brian
  14. Yep I would say the final drive gear out my trans is worn a bit alright and it broke off the shaft just in front of ujoint as well.
  15. ok Vic, sorry about that but ive added the link in my post, nut here it is again http://picasaweb.google.ca/friesman1/VentureWestIV200802 Brian:sign **** happens:
  16. look where your driveshaft ujoint goes into the transmission housing on the left side and check for leaks and side to side play. To make you feel better the mechanic that looked at mine in SLO had never seen it happen before and neither had the guys at a local salvage shop around town here but it is worth having a look. I am not sure whether a bushing could allow enough play for that to happen, and Ive talked to a couple of other mechanics since I was at VWIV and their opinion is that there was likely a flaw in the gear first, setting up a vibration that took out the oil seal. to me it seems a bit more likely to have happened this way but I am a computer geek not a mechanic so who really knows what caused all the carnage!!!:confused24: All i know is if you get an oil leak, and you hear scraping, check your output shaft bushings.... Brian
  17. Hey!! no puddles now........or youre gonna hafta clean up.... Brian :rotfl:
  18. Welcome to the Venturerider.org board, if you ever need to know anything about your bike just ask. there are some people here that know everything about these rides and they just love sharing the knowledge. I am friesman1 from Regina, there arent too many locals on this board yet, but if you ever have a question about anything or just want to go for a ride just msg me or one of the other local people and we would be happy to oblige.

    Brian

  19. i hope you get welll and get back on your feet pain free as soon as possible. If you need a windshield or an oem brown seat just let me know and I will get them to you Brian
  20. I have put together, and organized some pics from my trip down to VWIV and added some from SilverT and Nina for good measure. the very last item in the list is the short video of everyone leaving for the ride on Sat morning. OOPS! forgot to put in the link, geez gotta cut back on the beer. Thanks for the reminder, Vic http://picasaweb.google.ca/friesman1/VentureWestIV200802 Brian:rotfl:
  21. Yes you do have exaclty the bike I am looking for but after taking 3 expensive vacations this year I just cant handle taking on a new bike right now As much as I wish I could. You should have no trouble selling that pampered rig of yours, its been kept in perfect shape and I wish i could help us both out by buying it but life sucks sometimes. Catch you later, and say hi to M for me. Brian:mo money:
  22. I thought mine was a lightly dragging brake from time to time i would hear it. And occasionally when i would go over a bump it would change the angle somehow and i would feel something rubbing down low on the pegs, but couldnt track it down as the ujoint looked ok. I started leaking oil about a month ago from the left lower side and asked 3 different techs to try and find the leak but no success, but i got almost all the gaskets changed in the process. Finally at VWIV it started flinging lots of oil out the back and the trans started to whine even louder until i got a loud bang at low speed and lost all forward motion. I am not a mechanic so it was described to me as the seal around the trans output shaft was worn and leaking causing the output shaft to be slightly out of align wearing the gears on the final driveshaft finally breaking them causing the gears to lockup snapping the shaft in front of the ujoint. So in short check your output shaft seal and bushing. Brian
  23. I am so glad you guys found a way to make it down to VWIV in SLO and enojoyed it so thoroughly. I agree it was an absolute blast and wouldnt have been the same without you guys. You are 2 very special people and i was so amazed and happy to run into you in Biggs Junction so we had time to swap more stories and hear how much youve enjoyed your trip. I have decided like you guys that I am going to include the Venture West rally in my annual vacation from now on.......as long as I can find a different bike that I like in my price range. Brian
  24. Hey those look good! good thinking on that.. Just thought that I would mention that if you need anything off a brown 85 VR it looks like mine will be parted out now that the tranmission outpat shaft has messed up. when I get home next week I will probably start parting it and listing it. If you need something let me knowperhaps we can work something out before it all goes to ebay. (mine has jardines pipes on it) Brian
  25. I still love my 85 brownie but the output shaft gear out the back of the trans is totally gone and locked up twisting off the drive at the ujoint causing big repair bill. So it is time for a new scoot. it only had about 38ooo miles and all the plastic is in great shape with no cracks or scratches but my clearcoat is coming off the trunk and top of bags, so if ya need something give me a message in about a week when I get home from VW IV. Brian
