Need First Gen. Advice

I Agree wholeheartedly, As long as your serial is above 1413 and your trans is in the scoot!!! -
On your trip out west, I think you would be wowed by going through the Lake Tahoe area its got some gorgeous scenery to see. I stopped in last August on the way to VentureWestIv and met up with DKknight and PrincessM who were fantastic hosts and tour guides. Heres a link to some pics of the trip if you want to have a peek at My trip to VentureWestIV the camera doesnt do Lake Tahoe justice because you lose the scale of the scenery. http://picasaweb.google.com/friesman1/VentureWestIV200802 Brian

I am usually riding early april to end of October. This year I was licensed and riding on Mar15th but that was a couple of weeks earlierthan usual. A bunch of guys I know with another group I hang with are going out for a run around the valleys this coming Saturday. it is sposed to be 14 to 17 for the next few days (50-60 farenheit I am guessing). We could get snow again any time or we may not have snow for another month and a half, its a crap shoot. Brian

You gotta come up here for a ride in early to mid March around here, Jack, last spring I rode to work a couple times in 0 to 5 farenheit its invigorating.....:rotfl:and so much more....lol! Brian

I have a saddlemen travelcade on my 85 1st gen and as a big guy I find it pushes me too far forward as the seat riser seems to be too far forward. (the passenger has lots of room, but it does nothing for me. I have exchanged emails with Rick Butler and he suggested I send the saddlemens down for him to rework and move the riser back to make more room for me. I plan to do that over the winter. I think you can find Rick in the classifieds at the top of the page, if not just do a search for his name, I am sure it will come up. Brian

light reflector
friesman replied to TxVenture's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I have mounted this LED spoiler on my 85, i lowered the height a bit and i think it looks good and it raises the brakelight up to a nice eye level height. It can be installed to modulate the light on braking or to be a regular brake light. For about 35 bucks I thought it was a good deal. I would have posted a pic but my bags are out getting paint and that led bar is getting painted to match also I realize that I lose the luggage rack on top but i would rather be with out my luggage rack than my legs. http://www.mutazu.com/products.php?s=prod_image.php&menu=DMY%20Trunk%20Series&cat_id=1&product_id=20&img=LED%20spoiler%201.JPG Brian -

I know that Leds arent the whole solution, but has anyone tried wiring in a few LEDs around the existing bulb inside the tailight? To me this might be the best solution, no extra heat or current draw, but some extra needed light. Brian -
1st gen gas tank "rack" chrome.
friesman replied to timgray's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I was thinking about doing that too a while back, and was looking at some of the online cabinet makers. There are some nicely chromed or stainless drawer pulls in sizes that might look pretty good on the tank cover to hold things down. Some looked identical to the chrome bars in the fairing inserts above and below the oem stereo. I just cant remeber the names of any of the companies right now. Brian -
I am wondering if you have just uninstalled an antivirus program or changed any programs lately. When uninstalling Norton antivirus and a couple others, you have to reconfigure email programs as norton inserts its own settings into your email to enable it to scan for viruses. I would call your ISP and aske them to walk you thru the reconfigure process to ensure you have the right setting and password. Brian

For that price i would buy it, its a good unit for a good price. I paid close to that for my Quest one. You might want to look at buying their extended warranty if youre going to put it on your bike because of the vibration and the rain issues, depending on their price and quality of the warranty. Mine has been great with no issues. Brian

I had exactly the same problems, I renewed in late may and didnt get the Aug issue ,so then called them directly to see where the issue was. Later recieved 3 copies of the issue all at one time from them, but very nice ppl to deal with. Hey ya made it into print,,,,,,youre famous!!!!!:cool10: Brian

First off glad youre ok, but sorry to hear about you and your ride. If everything checks out as you say, and if they go with the 15k and let you take your accessories off I would go for it. To buy the damaged bike back would mean a fair amount of work even if it is cosmetic and the cosmetic parts are darn expensive to replace, and you will be surprised about how much would have to be replaced, (it is always more...). If you fix your bike yourself, you will always been looking at stuff and checking for imperfections, IMHO....go pick out a different scoot. Also, you write a good article for Reader Response for the December 08 issue of Road Runner Magazine,I agree with all your points and think its one of the best touring mags around. Brian:2cents:

I have the Garmin quest (bought from tigerdirect.ca for about 120 bucks as a refurb)and I used it in my truck on my way down to California this summer, probably almost 4000 miles round trip. It worked very well all the way and I only found it wrong once, and that was a new road that had been there less than a year. My biggest beef with it is that it doesnt tell you the street name, you have to look at the screen to get the name. There was a couple of times where it said left turn in 1 mile but you could see 3 streets and I wasnt sure which street until I got very close to the turn. I also loaded all the maps for western US and canada onto it before I left home so my routes were all preprogrammed before I left, and it is easy to reprogram it enroute if you have a change. Alll in all I liked it and have the bike ram mount and kit, but havnt installed it on my scoot yet. Also it comes with all the Garmin software unlocked so there is nothing else to buy, until you want to update your maps in a year or 2. I bought the mortorcycle kit off ebay for about 69 bucks with the ram mount and all the wires and connections. (some dont actually have the mount, they just sell you the hookup kit.) The only difference I can see for the Quest 2 is that it has more memory and that way you could leave all the maps for north america loaded in it all the time. If you have any more questions please ask. Brian

Have a look heres is the link click on the left side where it says hard to fit sizes. I have always recieved grwat service from them. http://newenough.com/browse/advanced_search Brian
