Why not just park the back tire up on a wide 2 by X wooden pad and ensure the back tire is on it. That should make your center stand a ton easier to put up and take down. maybe your bike has had lowering links put on that would make it almost impossible to use your center stand, unless you use a wooden pad method. I agree, its gotten better, I still don't care for their cartoony-like vignettes to showcase some of the historical figures. IMHO, its still not as good as TOS, but we have all gotten a bit more informed and not as in awe of space and the universe as we used to be. Both Carl Sagan and Neil DeGrasse Tyson rock as hosts and presenters, and while there are new ideas to present, a large body of the evidence is stuff that science has known about for a long time , and its still relevant like it was in TOS Brian (TOS= the original series)

weight of 1st gen vs 2nd gen?
friesman replied to ACE50's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Ive ridden and owned both g1 and g2 bikes, and while the weight difference between the 2 bikes isn't really a lot, the G2 feels so much heavier than the G1 at parking lot speeds. I think its the tire size/width, the fairing is mounted on the forks not the frame, and the the fuel is carried high, that would be about double the weight of a battery. (But, I don't really notice too much difference in handling if the tank is empty or full on the G2) Brian -
I was thinking along the lines of GodLover's recent post

I don't care what you ride Rick, What the heck would we do for comic relief if you weren't around? Glad to hear that you and Nina are sticking around. Brian -
Congrats on making a move! It will take some time to settle , but it might help to remember that your old home will just be a house when youre gone, and when you get settled the new place in short order it will be a home with you and your wifes loving touches and memories. Brian

Spring startup problems
friesman replied to ragtop69gs's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I might be tempted to pull the plugs and give the engine a spin for a second or 2 just to ensure the engine is not hydrolocked,,, plus ya probably want to check the plugs anyway... Brian -
We tried that back then, that's why you all now have to paint it white to cover all of the scorching. Brian

Coop, I like it! thinking outside of the box again,.....errrr at least the windshield, that looks good! With a couple of small changes to the mount and angle theres no reason something like that couldn't look good on a Venture. Brian

So glad that you guys have found and have renewed your faith in each other and in your god. Its a great time to take stock and just remember your relationships' strong points and take the time and effort to work on the rest, however small you think they may be. Good luck in the future, so glad for the good news. Brian

what about using the adapter for the bike so you can use an HD mirror? There has to be a bigger selection for those orange and black brand names. Brian

I had a 6x10 and traded up to a 6x12 to give me about 3 feet of storage in the front. In order to get the hitch weight right, the bike had to be mounted almost right at he back of the compartment. (remember these bikes are 9 feet long) Brian

Gen1 Trunk lock question
friesman replied to cabreco's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Why not just cut one side of the key to the trunk and one side for the ignition? Brian -

put me down for a set of carb covers and lock bezels for my RSV. thanks Brian And yes I know all about the shipping costs to Canada... -
the 2 Ventures are impossible to compare, they are entirely different machines. I still miss my 85 for the twisties and the acceleration from a stop, but for all day riding nothing beats my 03. Also, I think the 03 would kick my 85's butt after about 60mph. But, I still don't like the 03 in parking lots Brian

I use the ram mount and mount it fairly low on the handlebars as I don't like a bunch of stuff up high looking cluttered. Brian

Happy Presidents Day to all my American friends, Happy Family Day to my Canadian friends that are enjoying it, and Happy Workday to my friends that aren't getting any holiday today! (I gotta say it was a great long weekend with all of the clear skies, the sunshine and the snow melting...) Brian

thanks for your input, everybody. I have an HJC full face now (like it, but not loving it) and was probably going with a modular when I found this Nolan. Now, I have a few helmets and pick a different helmet depending on the weather, the type of riding or my mood. This helmet would help me a lot to be able to change on a long trip and not have to carry another helmet along. Annie, thanks for your input, I really think it would be what I like for vision too. I was originally concerned about durability of the mechanism where the chin bar attaches and reattaches, and about clearance for speakers, (ok now I found another article that says it has pockets for the speakers in already, but some fabric trimming may be needed) I always try on a helmet in person before buying and if the price is close, Ill buy local if possible,...but my experience is that I will save 100 bucks or more by ordering online.. I would rather support the local guys if they weren't picking my pocket. Brian

I am looking for some info from the braintrust in here, as its time to replace my full face helmet and found that Nolan has introduced a new line of helmets that are convertible from full face to 3/4 by removing the chin bar and visor. I like the idea of a full field of vision with the huge visor, but am kind of unsure how the removable chin bar would work in the event of a slide, or over the long term daily use. Has anyone used N44 or have any info on them? I think it might be the answer for thw long trips to give you a change depending on the day. Here is the link , let me know what you think... http://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/nolan-n44-helmet thanks, Brian

Boy, how can you tell spring is just around the corner and we are all itching to be riding more.........I think the boredom has set in and the cult of the Linux and Apple enthusiasts is trying to recruit new members to patrol the airport in sandals and togas..... Brian

I hope the Bridgestones work better on the Goldwing than on my old Venture. they made the bike feel heavy and slow in the corners, and then the sidewalls cracked. Not criticizing your choice, just letting you know my feelings... Brian

gen II lower fairing running lights
friesman replied to HalLootsinator's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
If you guys get them mounted, I would appreciate a pic to see how they look on the bike, but also a pic at night with the only the headlight on, and then with the extra lights on too. Brian
