I am sure youve all heard me complaing about the cold around here the last few days. Well here is a story of a guy riding his scoot across Canada to raise money for Juvenile Diabetes. For those of you that may not know the overnight low the night before he arrived it was -40c which also happens to be -40F WITHOUT any windchill factored in. This guy is dedicated to his cause, I hope he raises a ton of donations for Juvenile Diabetes. Crossing Canada in January is gonna be one cold and long trip!!!!! http://www.leaderpost.com/Health/motorcycle+tour+raise+awareness+about+diabetes/1180062/story.html Brian

almost any of Mel Brooks films are amoung the funniest. Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein are my favourites, but I do like the Jerk from Carl Reiner also.... Brian

The two i get are Roadrunner that comes out every 2nd month and does long and short distance articlestravelling in different areas of the world on a lot of different bikes. I understand the give us a discount now, but i think it might be a very new developement. It has great article written by real people and lots of pics for those of us who are too lazy to read much...lol The other is Friction Zone, its more of a monthly newsletter from western US mostly distributed at motorcycle dealers etc in the west. I have a sub to it because it has good articles on safety, prices and gadgets that I dont get info about in my area. They do reviews on a new bike or 2 an issue and there are a few colour pics, but its mostly newsprint which is fine with me. Brian

This has been the coldest stretch that I remember in a LLOOONNNNGGGG time. Brian Warmer weather Woohooo! partytime:cool10::cool10:!

Clearview Windshields
friesman replied to YamaDuck's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I would think its more likely the previous owner did something to cause the spots on your windshield. I was watching the Clearview site for a blemished one as I didnt want to pay full price, and anything I saw come up for sale as a blemish was just a small scratch along the top or edge. I was told that they wouldnt release anything interfering with line of vision, it would be destroyed rather than be sold. I have since bought a new Clearview (paid full price as no XXL ever came around while I was waiting) and the center vent was crooked. I sent a note and had a response back within hours and they paid for shipping both ways to fix the issue. I would recommend them to anyone. Oh yeah, i just soak mine whenever I gotta get the bugs off rather than scrubbing them off. Brian- 26 replies

Clearview Windshields
friesman replied to YamaDuck's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I did that a quite few years ago to the windshield on my 82 Honda cb750 but it wasnt a cigarette; it was the overhead worklight in the garage was hanging down and slightly warped the windshield in 3 or 4 places before I realized what was happening....it made it really strange to drive in bright light or at night. Aux gas tank
friesman replied to Studhauler's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
heres an already made up version of what I was talking about before. The gas can holder just slides into your bikes or car's hitch reciever or into an attachment on the back of your trailer. This way youre not carrying that gas all the time. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/GAS-CAN-CARRIER-motorcycle-rack-trailer-hauler_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1742Q2em153Q2el1262QQcategoryZ34284QQihZ020QQitemZ300286365003QQtcZphoto- 8 replies

I like the look of the shiny gas tank, but I am not sure I would want to drive around every day in traffic with a gas tank behind me. Have you thought about adding a hidden hitch to the bike and then attaching a gas can with holder to the steel tube insert so you could slide the gas can in and out of the hitch when you went on long trips and remove it for in town riding. I know it might be a pain to pour once in while, but I think it is safer. Brian- 8 replies

Hi we are getting prices on hotels and campgrounds and should have them shortly. We are also looking at locations in Nelson BC, a short distance away from New Denver, as its a larger town with more options for accomodationd, dining, and camping. In New Denver it appears we would have issues finding accomodations if we had a loarge number of members turn out. We should have these issues worked out in the next few days, so please stand by...... Brian If anyone has any concerns or comments please feel free to message me.

If youre runnin Xp or Vista the computer should just recognize it as another harddrive, so just plug it into your usb port on your computer.(unless its an ipod) then you just find your mp3s on your harddrive and drag them onto your mp3 player that your computer probably sees as your e or f drive. that was a great joke!!! I loved it, and I am not sure that its far from the truth in some cases, lol! But in the real world: I used to own a Mazda 3 and on the mazda forums it was discussed on several occasions that the ECM could hold up to 35 hours of driving info, as speed, acceleration and tach settings. Evidently it was used several times to disallow warranty claims and I remember one high profile accident case where the info was used to convict a guy of dangerous driving causing death, as they could prove the vehicle accelerated into the accident not braked. As Mazda and Ford are very closely linked I would assume Ford is using the same system. Brian

Great Idea, make sure you do this one! this happened to me last year in SLO at VentureWest, talk about embarrassing and leave you in a sense of panic about 1800 miles from home.... I understand why the card company does this, they are just trying to be prudent, but man is it a shock when you go to check into your motel and the motel wont let you because your card has been shut down. I got it straightned out after a phone call later, but I was lucky to have a great Venturerider friend along who helped me out of that jam. Brian

One more thing I would suggest id make a list of all your meds, medical conditions, surgeries, allergies etc. Also include next of kin contacts. then find yourself a xlarge pill bottle, take a felt pen and write medical info on the outside, and throw it in your bag along with your meds. Paramedics are trained to look for meds in an emergency. SOme drug stores are selling this as a complete kit, with bottle, forms and all for about 5 bucks. Then when you get home leave it in your fridge door in case an emergency happens and no one can talk to the paramedics. Paramedics have been told in my area to check fridge doors for this info in cases where no one is concious. Brian

I was looking around and some people were saying you could order copies of older Pace Arrow manuals from Fleetwood for 8 bucks, There is also a place to order manuals for the equipment and the chassis. http://www.fleetwoodrv.com/contact/contact_mh.aspx Good luck! Brian

hi Thats great to hear from someone that lives in the area, even though this will be a simple rally with riding, telling lies, making friends, and eating being the main goal, its always so much easier with someone on the ground in the area Ill touch base with you shortly to see if we can come up with something Thanks for the offer of help! here is a way to plan your trip mapping out your roads, gas stations, hotels, and will sync to a Garmin GPS.. Its an HD site, but its seems to work well. Sorry if its been mentioned before but here is the link again, http://www.harley-davidson.com/wcm/Content/Pages/Ride_Planner/Ride_Planner.jsp?locale=en_US Brian

woohoo!!!! if youre travellin with that much beer, I am following you to the next rally!!!! youll love havin the trailer in case of crappy weather or even just for storage to keep lil fingers from touching everything. I had forgotten that the next size up from mine was tandem axles which makes a big difference when dealing with bigger weights, you prolly wont even notice its behind you. Have fun and ride safe! Any ideas help, and I like your ideas, but we had already started the process in New Denver last fall as it seemed to be pretty central and one of the members had been there before for a rally. If things dont pan out in New Denver, we will definitely be looking at Nelson. I dont know the area, if you do, would you be up to lending a hand with ideas for next July 's rally? Actually if anyone knows the area and would like to lend ahand or an idea please let me know and we can get things going forward, and plan runs, mabbe get some prizes. I really dont know the area and would like someone else who knows the area well that could help out with logistics and planning. I think we have to keep prices reasonable to allow as many people as possible to attend and we have to check on accomodations for people that might want to camp as well. Cmon everyone lets make next July long weekend a blast Brian
