in the last few days since Rocket let me take my 85 back after he slaved over it all winter, making it into a new bike.... my favourite mods in order of preference Stainless brake and clutch lines- cant beleive the difference, pricey but the brakes feel great now . easier to bleed now too, with the added bleeder up by the triple tree. Progressive fork springs and COndor fork brace - no more bottoming out, no flexing ,feels more solid, a great fairly cheap fairly easy fix Solid motor mounts -the bike just feels more solid now, and a bit more vibration, but hardly noticeable, the old rubber mounts were pretty soft after all that time. Extra lighting- Rocket mounted some lights similar to platinum burners on Squidley brackets and I find that it makes a huge difference to my night vision. Also intstalled a PIAA bulb in the main headlight position. It feels like a new, different bike than my old 85 Brian

Youre right Lou, Boorman wipes out in the Dakar rally and breaks his collar bone or arm, I cant remember for sure, and a couple of days later , a rider dies from being injured. (not in their entourage). Speed Channel had it on a couple of months ago. Brian PTRC rocks!

Yeah, Nelson is going to be a great rally, lots of good scenery and great people. It will be good to finally see you in person Lowell! It looks like we are going to have a nice long ride on the ferry down to the creston area and back on Friday, and on Sat morning we are planning a mini-tuning session for anyone, for a small donation we will synch your carbs. Later Sat we are planning a poker derby around the Nelson area and a buffet supper afterwards. Brian

Friesman1 Scooting Along
friesman replied to Rocket's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I love all the upgrades and then bike runs better than it ever has, now I just need the plastic back from the painter so it looks fantastic too! I was pleasantly surprised that I didnt feel more vibration from the solid motor mounts and the bike feels more solid than before. Thanks to Rocket and Scotty for all your help. Brian -
Thanks to all the work by Rocket and Scotty my 85 is back and running beautifully. I am still waiting for the plastics to come back from the painter so she is looking nekkid for the time being. Over the winter Rocket fixed the rear output issue, and the second gear thrust washer was replaced as well. Then the "might as wells" started in earnest,,,lol! Rocket also upgraded the brake lines to the black stainless, upgraded the clutch springs to Barnetts ( I think), water pump had a crack in plastic so it was replaced, Progressive springs were installed as the front forks used to bottom out. Rocket also install new driving lights using the squidley brackets as well as a stebel horn, Condor fork brace, heavier battery cables, solid motor mounts, and the Huntington spin on oil filter adapter. Last weekend when I went up to pick it up Scotty came over from about an hour and 30 minute drive to have a coffee and check things out. Rocket and Scotty found that the swing arm assembly wasnt reinstalled properly by the Los Osos repair company (but in their defence they were just asked to put it together so I could trailer it home) and then Scotty and Rocket totally took everything apart at the swingarm and totally inspected and greased everything, and reassembled. I would like to thank Rocket and Scotty for all their hardwork and friendship and appreciate everything they have done to help me out. Thanks for everything guys, I love the way the bike runs and handles now, its great!!!!! Brian Ps that floor was wwwaaayyy to shiny and slippery, Ive been on ice that was easier to negotiate than that, I tried leaving some black streaks on the floor but it was so slippery no marks were left, i would just spin and not leave a mark....

I wondered what was going on as ive gone thru radar twice quite a bit faster than allowed and have been waved at to slow down as the officer was looking at and shaking the radar gun. Also, there is a radar speed mesaurement area on the south end of town that is set up to slow down traffic, and verify your speedo. my bike will never, ever show a speed measurement on it, even when I am the only vehicle around for miles. Brian

hey Gene I really appreciate you taking time out of your busy schedule to do our stuff. Brian

This past winter we had up to 40 inches of ice on most lakes, but it was the coldest winter in the last 31 years. Most lakes and rivers still have ice on right now, theres still guys driving their pickups on the ice on last mountain lake just north of town. There are a few guys around here that race their bikes on the ice with studded tires like that, but Ive never seen a vmax on the ice, thats impressive! There may be ice on the lakes, But almost everyone that has a bike running has it out on the road!!! Brian
