it is possible for you to slide the tubes up in the forks by loosening the clamps. some folks do this to help lower the frontend. someone could have worked on these bikes and not tightened up the clamps properly, allowing them to slip up and down in the tripletrees. but in all the years i have owned over 50 bikes of all make(except harley but have worked on them for friends) and never seen any of them doing it. there's always someone who sets themself as a know-it-all and is usually someone you don't want to listen to. as a friend of mine uses to say "don't argue with a fool! because he'll beat up up with experance and pull you down to his level!! i had to think about it for a bit before i got what it ment. lol!

Here is a question for everyone...
tazmocycle replied to PuttPutt's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I'm pretty sure the cage with the bike in tow shouldn't count, should it? if it's a harley you can count them!LOL!! you should have unloaded it and ran around the parking lot so you could say you rode in the state!LOL!! on another forum we do a "techron flush" by putting a 12oz bottle of techron with a full tank of gas and run it wide open for the tankfull, keeping the rpms up and staying out of 5th gear. 1 friend had about 30k on his when we did it and after about 60 miles his 96 royal was blowing out soot and sparks out the mufflers. it was ruinning a lot better after we got back. -
96 RS clutch question
tazmocycle replied to PuttPutt's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
mine started slipping around 38k and i've got 75k on it now. i just downshift and get back on the throttle easier. i usually don't get out of 3rd gear under60mph and 4th around 75mph. stay out of 5th unless i'm on interstate over 70mph. i use the 4t oil and never had any problem with clutch slipping over the 10w50 mobil. changing out the clutch spring with a heavier spring will cure the problem. -

well! last week i applied for a job with the local hostess bakery they had just posted. maybe i'll be taking down the equiptment and get it ready to ship to mexico! a company there has stated it was wanting to buy the rights to make hostess products. i've never had any problems with finding work but it has been 4 weks since i got terminated. looks like most companies is waiting to see how the year ends and next year starts off. i've been doing hvac work for over 40 yrs and never seen it this bad! it started back around june when things started slowing down and has never really picked back up yet. still waiting on state to aprove me for unemployent pay but it only about 30% of what i was making a week. i don't see how anybody can survive on it.for the last 15-20 yrs about all the big named a/c mfger has gone to mexico to do the assembling of their units, goodman/amana is the only company thatsall made in usa. i have been installing them since 1991 and haven't had much trouble with them.wel thats all i have to say on that.

I GUESS I SHOULDN'T FIXED THE CARBS!! NOW YOU HAVE TO START OVER AGAIN! i have a couple of helmets here and may have 1 for you, what size do you have? which 1 did you wear when you rode my bike? do you remember if it fit ok. i have a harley x-large but it presses on my forehead andit starts to hurt after a while. are you coming to your mom's anytime soon, could see what fits you. what parts did you messup on the bike, as you know i have a bunch laying around. ask your doc if they have the bone stemulator, it helps speed up the healing process, my doc was amazed at the way it worked on me and another guy who broke his leg just like me, but he was loading it on a wrecker( he had never rode a bike before, and didn't have ins. the company gave the stemulators to us to see how they would work.) give me a call if you want, don.

checkout hellriser.com to see what they have them for, i got 1 of mine for $249 with no shipping cost. cruisercustomizing.com sometimes marks their down. you just need to look and ask around before you buy as they have come down over the last few years. the gas millage usually don't change but because of the pep you get out of it, you are always twisting the throttle wide open to show youself and other JUST HOW FAST IT IS!! then you're complaining about the drop in mpg!LOL!! set it on curve 3 and 7-7270 rpms and thats usually the setting most of us use for best overall performance.

well, if i had planned it before hand we come have had a double birthday party. today's my 59th be hitting 60's next year. i was wanting to go to atlanta to marettia diner or fire of bazil but have been out of work for 3 weeks and haven't found another yet. we were out around labor day to see grandson in willington and also made a quick stop in columbia as we found out susan's aunt was in the icc at hospital there. we thought about ya'll but had to get back home. we may go to willington during thanksgiving week to grandson house and may try to stop by for brief visit if we do. as we get older, we have a lot more things on our plate to do and less time to do them, just have to do the most important ones i guess!!

Check float level
tazmocycle replied to frankd's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
frankd: you are right about if any gas is getting by the black rubber seal around the seat is the only way trash from the gas line can get into the bowls, most all of the ones i pull down are flatten out and they don'tseal off good. you can find metric o-rings at most auto part stores or lowes or home depots. i have a set of all differant sizes and thickness in a kit i've had for years that came from an industrial supply house, when i use to rebuilt a lot of differant food machines that wre from germany and netherlands. i'm sure these are metrics. if your's is leaking pressure down it's either going back thru the fuel pump or those black rubber orings around the seat housing or thru the float seats. hope you get them straighten out, don. -
Carb fun for a motorcycle virgin
tazmocycle replied to k.brown's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
as far as getting the cables off the carbs, up at the throttle, there's an adjustment with a locking thumb knob that you screw ccw from the bar end and then the long thumb screw ccw to the end of threads. down ontthe carbs where the cables are hooked up, use a 10 mm wrench and loosen the long nuts all the way back, the one on top will come off the threads and the bottom one will back up and stop at the end of threads. you can pull the out of the bracket and then remove the 2 screws that holds the mounting bracket off the chrome diaphram cover and remove it out of the way. when you lift the carbs out of their boots, slide the carbs to the left side of the bike between the frame and motor(you'll have to take the wiring harness out of the straps and metal bracket holding it in place, and pull slack up by thr frame. when you get the carb almost halfway out you can twist the ends of the cables out of the round throttle control on the carbs. reverse to install.try to remember where all the nuts you loosen on the throttle cables so you can put them back as they were, because thats how you get the right amount of backlash in you throttle cables. as for getting sea foam into the carbs after you run it out, if you look in the tops of the carbs you'll see 2 small holes with brass jets in them, that goes right into the float bowls, you'll have to drip the sea foam in slowly till they are full. be carefull when you are starting up your bike, as if it backfire thru the carbs trhewre's a danger of set them on fire, that's what happen to my friend's bike, toasting 2 of his carbs and airbox. just take your time and have a nice clean area to lay the parts out if you take them down to clean. -
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!! YOU'RE LIKE ME AND DON'T SHOW YOUR AGE, I WOULD HAVE NEVER GUESSED IT. HOPE YOU HAVE MANY MORE TO COME, DON AND SUSAN. TAKE SOME PICS FOR US.

Carb fun for a motorcycle virgin
tazmocycle replied to k.brown's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
if someone is welling to help him out thats close to him, i can get a set of my cabs setup and send them to him. i maybe able to come over to helpout, but i'm currantly out of work and watching my $s. i just went to columbus, ms and helped a fellow royal rider on his, as his backedfired and burned up a couple of carbs and filter box. i had to use my good set of carbs to get him going, so i have to put another set back together and test &tune them on my bike. if he's not done any work on bike carbs, it's problly not a good idea for him to do so, as my friend in ms found out( he's a shadetree auto mechanic). so i'll keep an eye on this thread and see what happens. we maybe can help him out on his vigro 250 too if he needs it. i also helped pmelah get the carbs on his 99 back running, used a couple of my carbs because i couldn't get the pms screws loose, i have to drill and extract them out. -
my brother dave did the peeing on an electric fence when we were younger, it was a shocking suprise to him that it did ground out through his bare feet and it was one of the weed burners model, so it had the higher power!!LOL!!

we have the earlier model of tri-wing and liked your's better as far as more stylish. if i had to go from scratch i would go with the hannigan, susan really likes b2 dad's with the long foot boards. glad you are getting around so soon after and hope things keep going on a steady path for you to get back to riding, i almost went crazy while healing up from my wreck in 05. my 01 wasn'tthat bad wrecked but when they offered me $1850 more than i payed and took about $1000 worth of extras off it.

you may want to check the voltage at the battery as you rev the engine up and down. i was having the same problem and it was the reg/rec not regulating the voltage while running, i was getting up to 16 volts at high revs which boiled the water out of my battery and caused it to die. after replacing the reg/rec unit and adding distilled water to the battery it quit doing it. if your not getting over 14 volts then look else where.

http://forums.delphiforums.com/royalstar try posting it on this forum, most there know of and have had several of them there. a member Hal "scoop" Longest's wife had one for several yrs before going to a v-star 1300 tour. we started that forum back in 02 for those who had the 1996-2001 standard royal star blvd, tour classics I &II and tour deluxes and there wasn't any places to find out about them. after join venturerider in 05, i talk to freebird about adding a section for us on here and he gladly did so. there many of members that are on both forums as both are loaded with many great guys that don't mind helping others out when the needs arises. there was many bike done in the palimino style which had the tan, yellow or brown saddle bags on them. at star days 02 in ark i saw a dark green with the brown saddle bags and really looked great. i've seen the bags for sell several times over the years, and they usually go fro a high prices.

i don't see any way any trash can get into the fuel bowl thru the gas line from the fuel pump as the fine screen on the bottom of the needle seat, which is below the blue band in the pic chris french posted at the bottom of his reply, should catch it all. most, i think comes when the gas breaks down and causes corrusion in the bowl. when my royal star set up for about 5 months with stabel in it, when i had my knee and leg surgery, there was a clear-like jelly and really fine sand-like crud in them. i had to take them all the way down and clean them good. -
More Carb Issues
tazmocycle replied to HotRodYJ's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
right beside the main jet tube sticking up in the middle of the carb, right next to it is another tube with a hole in it, did you see if it was open? i had to use a set of torch wire cleaners to get it open. it's about 1/32th of an inch hole, i used the smallest in the set and twisted it back and forth to i got it thru and then used the next in size and then the 3rd one to finish opening it up. -
paul, glad you got it going! sorry you didn't get to barber's with me, had a great time there. also meet, our scrc 1st oficer and he was meeting up with a couple of guys who are starting up Motus touring bikes here in birmingham that has a v-4 in it too, their taking orders and deposits on bikes to be built in 2012 for 2013 sales. http://www.motusmotorcycles.com/mst-01.html we rode on some back roads and main roads to their shop in downtown birmingham and on to dinner at a local hangout where these guys are showing off their bike. after we came off a winding road to a 3 lanes road, the 2 guys took off full throttle after a bmw 1200 that came flying past us, then we came up to a stop light and when it went green they all took off again. i got on mine a few seconds after and caught the motus in 3rd place and stayed there for about half mile where we exited to stop by their office. 4293.1 Short video of a BMW k1200 about to get spanked by the Motus MTR. Also added a couple of videos to my YouTube channel. That yellow shirt is Don taking off quite briskly.. . You can't see much of the action because he was getting far behind us while running and he was on a yamaha warrior. they were talking a lot about their bike and the bmw1200, but didn't say much about the 11 yr old, 75,000 mile v-4 run up on their azzes!!LOL! i hope to meet up again with them in the near future. their bikes are going for over $30,000 for the 2 models they have. they kept talking about the sound of the engine, but it sounds really tingy and knocky. there several videos of the bike running. katech is building the motor based on a corvette engine as seen in this link http://www.cyclematters.com/motorcycle-blog/motorcycle-model-news/motus-motorcycles-katech-engines-partner-to-create-worlds-first-injected-v4-engine-kmvr.cfm well, i guess i'll stay with a proven product for now. on your brakes, you may want to pull the pads and pump out the pistons about 3/4 of the way and clean the dust and crud around and up inside the rubber boots. then you can push the pistons back in and put pads back in and then bleed them till new fuild comes out.

tazmocycle replied to slim_32's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
you can use the mount and trunk off a venture as it will bolt on to the chrome side arm on the back fender.the extra holes pluged on the bar is where it'll bolt to. look on e-bay for pinwall store as they have a couple of the mounts and trunks. you can also moun t the grabrails off the venture too. -
those are the carb heater, they put them on some models all differant years. really don't need them unless you are riding in cold weather. it a little heater that heat the carb and gas up to help starting the bike when cold. if you have to choke your for several minutes to keep it running they will help out. most just need to choke a minute to keep it running.

pics from trip to Little River Canyon
tazmocycle replied to midnightrider1300's topic in Watering Hole
yea, thats the rock i was talking about, we climb up on to and take pics. also on the backside there's a long slit in the rocks, i like to put the front of the bike into the hole and take a pic and then back it in the other side and it looks like you drove thru the rock opening! yea they have do a lot of improvement to the road and parking areas along. the really bad spot is where if you are going north and you come to the deep dip and bridge across a little creek and you go straight up and have to turn to the left or right, it's a tuff one to go to the right. there's always sand and gravel in the middle and you have to hug the right edge of the road to go right without busting your butt. wish they would widen it a bit so it not as bad there. on one of the side roads, randy owens of the group alabama has his farm and he opened a gift shop in one of his old barns. h they were closed the day we road up. the only bad thing is they are letting a lot of homes to be built all along the parkway and i think it takes away a lot of the outdoorsy feel to the ride. -
1998 BUB exhaust system
tazmocycle replied to vee4dfw's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
at the time i cut up and made a 4x2 set, there wasn't much supply around for these bikes, as yamaha stopped making them in 01 and when they came back out in 05 with the tour deluxe it'was on the same order as the venture. some of the part will cross over but there's a lots of differance in the frame and motor. -

tazmocycle replied to midnightrider1300's topic in Watering Hole
i got some of the same pics. down underneath the bridge in your second pics, i layed down in that hole and let the water run over me t cool off when i was up there during the summer. always climb up on the rocks in the middle of the road about midway and take pics there too. climbing the steep hill from the lower river park is a lot of fun too. we always pull our bike out on the big canyon overlook and take pics of bike there.thats one area that a lot of people, even in Al don't know about. thats been a place i always take out-of-town folks to, to see that Al has some very nice places to ride in.
