  1. susan and I just made it in after running all over tn and al on the way home. spent about $300 at flea markets along the way. had a great time seeing all there, looking forward to lake Guntersville.
  2. are they the ones with chrome metal and large rubber knobs all over them? can you post a pic? I may have some that I will send you, don.
  3. well i have a couple sets of carbs that i usually rebuild incase some body needs a set. i also know a guy who has a new set in boxes and a rejet kit and he's asking $1250 for them. if i get a set rebuilt i'll swap out with you or sell them outright to you.
  4. SOUND LIKE YOU HAVE FLOATS STICKING OR VALVE SEATS NOT SEALING. when you rev the engine up you may see a little gas but not a lot. did you look at the O-rings around the needle seat, the little brass round thingy the needles set in. last time I redid mine, I used a 1/8" drill bit and hand drilled the hole where the seat seals off. spin it lightly till you bevel the hole a little, so the seat seals better. I've putted mine off and sending them to a guy in Ar and he's sending me his, which i'll rebuild to put back on mine. I hope to get another set rebuilt soon after that. been tied up trying to get my house finished so city will get off my back.
  5. just below the chrome diaphragm cover toward the outside of carb you will see a small roundarea with a tiny little hole in it. you can drill it out bigger and use a sharp point screw into the hole and pry out.
  6. you need to adjust the pms screws in or clockwise till it starts to miss a little and then turn back counter clockwise about 1/4 turn or till it smooths out. checkout the exhaust flanges and clamps to make sure they are tight and not leaking.
  7. tankerhank is also a member here too.he done his about 8 or 9 yrs ago. ther are some different but he has worked most of it out. he had a wrck a few yrs back anf totaled it and now has a black cherry venture, which he has done several things to it. he took the lower off and got all that stuff hidden .he's been riding these v-4s since 84.
  8. i usually get 42mpg if i ride steady, but if i twist the throttle much it go to mid 30s. i get about 2 or 3 mpg afterward, not a lot but it seems to run a lot smoother. but i have opened up the airbox and went to 115(99 oem) mains and 22.5 idle jets. bike has a much better get up and go over oem setup.
  9. i set mine around 9mm, mine was set from factory just below 8mm. after setting them a bit lower they seem to run better and trhe gas milage came up abit. just remember you are measuring the float when it's at the top level and shutting off the gas. another thing i did on the last 2 set i did, was i took about a 1/8" drill bit and lightly spun it by hand down in the seat hole, so the tappered rubber end would seat down and seal off better.
  10. contact slowrollwv and ask him, he lives there and does a lot of riding.
  11. the bars will jump because the vacuum is only when the intake stroke is pulling the gas/air mixture into the cylinder. you need to try to keep the motor around 1k rpms to keep it pretty steady. as you adjust the screws you'll hear it change some, either slow down or speed up, according to how bad their off. sometimes the setting will change with just pushing on the screws, best to blib the throttle a little after a few turns, just to let the linkage set back down incase binding of rods, springs and cables. it's not really a hard job if you go step by step slowly. you'll fell the difference if they are out of sync some.
  12. SORRY TO HEAR THIS! i finally made it last year and really seen how great of a time it was to be there. hope things go ok for y'all, as stated we're here if needed. hope y'all can make the international, maybe we can do some wrenching there, may even spot a few lake monsters down here in AL!! LOL!!
  13. don't forget the glass of iced tea!! LOL!!
  14. hope wes does ok with his surgery! let us know if anything we can do to help out. he'll be able to drive around with his right hand while his left is hung out the window waving at ALL THE GALS!! LOL!!
  15. the big foot mod is for the 96-01 standard royals that has the 28mm carbs, the air box sits on top of the carbs not like the newer 05-up tds and 99-up ventures. some cut open the air box and some put the 4 pod filters on, one on each carb. you can come out cheaper with cutting out the air box and buying just the 8 jets to change out the idle and main jets. http://forums.delphiforums.com/royalstar/start you can find the article on it here. tankerhank, has done both, and he also did away with the lowers on his venture. he's a member on here and host the Delphi forum and he has a step x step how to somewhere, you may want to ask him about it. he also put a venture motor on his 98? royal and delt with all the changes that needs to be made in doing it.
  16. You can look at the 05-present tads and see if they are more of what you may need, they are a little wider and not as bent in the up and out of venture bars. There are those who changed theirs out and be got for little. The older 96-01 royal stars has bars not as bent and steeped out gas venture bars. That's one great thing about the meet and eats we have as you can see several different set ups on others bikes without doing all the diff eat setups before we figure out what good for yes.
  17. 4838.1 http://www.motorcycle-usa.com/624/17251/Motorcycle-Article/Possible-Honda-CTX1300-Spied-Testing.aspx have you seen this from Honda, looks a lot like the bike motus is building here in Birmingham, Al.
  18. I just loosened the clamp on the brake and clutch levers and rotated it till the levers are strait out toward the front of bike, that way your wrist are flat and easier to pull the levers. try that first.
  19. you did a good job of not getting the 'TRUCK AND TRAILER' IN THE PIC!!l LOL!! YOU NEED TO REALLY GET IN SO LONG RIDES ON IT BEFORE THE 2014 RALLY! IT'S GOING TO BE A LONNGG RIDE DOWN TO ALABAMA!! last year when I came up there, I rented an 03 road glide and put over 300 miles on it while there! had the 6 speed but really didn't use it much just like the royal!
  20. I bought my new 01 royal star in april '01 and have put almost 78k worry free miles riding. I liked it so much, that in 04 I flew to tx and rode home an '01 venture which I put about 8k on it(4700 to sturgus, sd and back) but totaled it in april '05(got over $2k more than I had in it) and bought my departed friend's 97 royal and v-star 1100 which I still have and a wrecked 96, I will soon get back on. I picked up a '86 venture for few dollars and got it down to redo it. three yrs ago I bought an 03 venture trike with less than 1700 miles on it, so I think I have enough Yamaha ventures to last my lifetime!! after Yamaha stopped making the royal in 01, every time I saw a yammie rep, I made sure to tell them that Yamaha had stop making the best bike they had ever made, so I was very happy to see it come back in '05 but then they stop it AGAIN!! what the 'well that's the way it goes!! how many times have you seen a Yamaha commercial for the touring bikes they make!! I've seen more ventures in movies than commericals!! in the 12 1/2 yrs of owning my royal and going from not seeing another unlees you went to a large rally till this past sunday, I saw about 25 or so. also there are several websites now for royal stars and ventures with problly about 20k or so members and new ones showing up every week. I guess them old jap owners are paying us back for all the hurt we put on them, many moons ago!! LOL!! and that's all I have to say about!!
  21. if theres a harley dealer near you, they may have some scratched or swapout tour packs laying around they may sell cheap, won't hurt to ask. theres 2 around birmingham, al and they have a lot of parts in a warehouse that they often sell.
  22. did you get my pm on the rack? I have one new but out of pack, $65 and i'll pay shipping. let me know if you want it, don.
  23. I have a carbtune and can help you out if we can meet up, i'm about 60 miles north of mong. are any of you going to alstate in cullman on nov 2nd? my sister-in-law lines in millbrook and we sometimes are down there for the weekend.
  24. carbon one makes a nic set and also get them from diamond. I put a set on my 03 venture trike so my wife would worry about the grandkids when they ride with me.
  25.
