when i talked to dale about barber's, he told me that mr barber had offered to build him a building at barber's to move his museum there. i guess he took him up on it. mr barber also got confederate bikes to move here from NO after the huricane hit there. they have already started to build the largest bass pro shop right off the intersate next to barber's, they are slated to open in early 09. they're suppose to try and get indy cars to race here too. thie area will soon be a meca for racing in the near future.

our thoughts and prayers goes out to him and his family in their time of need. almost the same thing happened to me 1 1/2 yrs ago. i found this site and sent it to papa dan harris, my best friend and riding partner. we planned to attend the 05 tail of the dragon rally together but he got sick, and had to cancel out. found out he had a brain tumor and fought it with bravery beyond human sense, never showing pain or sorrow till the end. always finding something to laugh or smile about. he is greatly missed by all that knew him. i know mike will find a great friend and riding buddy there to meet him. may they ride for ever. the family will need your help and support in the future and i know you will be there for them, don and susan.

can anyone help on turn signal issue?
tazmocycle replied to ragamuffin's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
check the members list and see if there are any other members close by that may be able to help you. we also do garage days here off the forum. all you have to do is put out a post and see if anybody wants to have a garage day to meet and work on y'all's bike. a good way to learn from those that has the knowledge of these bikes. all you need is a place to meet and have a garage to get the bikes in to work on them. you can get about 5 or 6 bikes in a 2 car garage and the bike are not that hard to work on. good luck with your problem, id just check the area you were working in, might have pulled a wire connector loose or a relay in the right side cover. -
our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family in this time of need. let us know if we can help in any way, don and susan.

if you overfill the oil it will be sucked into the breather thru the little tubes coming off the crankcase and mixing with the water vapor. if the oil is in the upper part of the site glass it may have been doing this, just keep a watch on it.

where in fl are you going to? hwy 280E from I-459 to columbus,ga is a good road. several parts of it is 65mph, but there's several little towns along the way that runs radar, that y'all have to watch( harpersville, al is one check www.speedtraps.com ). if you come thru birminham and get on 280, the traffic is bad during rush hrs( 6-9 am & 4-7pm) you want to try and avoid these times. if you have time coming thru, give me a call and i'll try and meet you for coffee or? i have drove thru ga on 280 but can't remember how it is, but don't remember anything bad. hope this helps out, don.

the hard bags will go onto the frame of the 4x2 exhaust. the hard bags are a little longer than the old hard bags that was on the early royal stars, so the turn signals may hit on the back. i just bent my turn signal arms so it didn't hit. the only other thing is the fishtail mufflers from sampson will also hit the back of the bags, too. i just spaced mine down about 1/2 inch with washers and it don't touch. as far as mounting the venture trunk on your bike, you will need to get the saddle bag mount(4xy-28473-00-00 & 4xy-28474-00-00) from a venture to have all the mounting holes in them to mount the trunk or drill your to fit it on. thats the only differances in the framing.

good reviews on venture and tds by bike mag
tazmocycle replied to tazmocycle's topic in Watering Hole
i have read several other mag's reviews of the royal star line and most was comparing it to a harley as to the performance. you could tell by the way they stated the way the royal was running or handling that they wern't riding it right. i looked down the list of bike that motorcycle daily mag had test rode and their reviews, and they are well versed in differant mods of bikes and their performance. i think some are scared of the power and ad dollars that harley weilds around the motorcyle world and are reluctant to go against them when doing the reviews. there are many differant kind of riders and each should be able to get an honest and unbias review of all bikes. i have alway tried to give anybody an honest answer to any questions about any bike i have riden, and alway tell them to test out all that they think would suit them best and make their own choices. thats the reason i posted this on several forums i visit. I AIN'T SCARED!! LOL!! DON... -
good reviews on venture and tds by bike mag
tazmocycle replied to tazmocycle's topic in Watering Hole
hope you wasn't talking about me wanting one!! i had a 01 that i wrecked in 05, hope to get another one in future!! if you read the whole article, he did mention the 1st gens being made to go against the goldwings. the reason i posed it was that i have read several articles about these bike and they write that they don't have good power and shimmy and shake when you put the gas to them, they try to ride them like v-twins. -
i would think that most tire mfgers make their casings about the same tickness. i think that rock would have punctured about any brand tire. i had a friend who had a new dunlop tire on his fjr with only a couple of hundred miles on it and had a flat. where they broke it down to fix, they found a small piece of the white reflectors that are on the roads. it had hit between the thick rows of threads in one of the groves. this got me thinking about my wreck in 05 of my venture. i had a venon-x on the rear with about 5,000 miles on it. when i moved from the left lane to the right lane, i remembered running over something, and just a few second later the tire went completely flat causing me to wreck. i think i may have hit a broken reflector in the center line of the road. from what i've read of brad and lonna's wreck, it's very similiar to what happen to me, the back tire went down very fast, putting the bike in a violent fishtailing, which lead to the crash. you can run over a pile of nails and only till one flips upright, will it puncture your tire. this is just one of the risk we take when we ride the roads with all the debris on them.

read a couple of good reviews by some bike mag that seems to know how to ride a v-4!! i'm inpressed by them!! http://www.motorcycledaily.com/21january03yamaha03royalstarventure.html http://www.motorcycledaily.com/16june04_yamaha2005royalstardeluxe.htm this give new lookers a non-bias view into a great touring bike.

i didn't realize till i read it in a bike mag that the yamaha v-star 650 has the same wheel base as a road king. i use to love riding around town on my wife's 650 but was cramped for room. i couldn't think of riding it 2-up. i have a friend thats a harley man(about 5'9 350#s) and his(5'5 130#s?) wife is misable(but he wouldn't sell it for anything else) on the back of it. he got her a set of adjustable (3 posttions)foot pegs that mounts at the same place behind the pass. floorboards and helps her out. o'course they don't do any real long ride, they trailer it.

as i said it depends on the area of the country you live in as what heat source you use to get the best heat. as i also said is the heat pump picks up heat from the outside and transfers it to the inside, so if you live in a northern climate with a lot of cold days in the year, you wouldn't want to use a heat pump(70-30 degrees range). but if you watch "this old house" you will see that heat pumps are installed if you have the $s to invest you can put a ground source(buried in ground or a well) heat pump if the yr-round ground temps meets the requirements to do so. a lot depends on if you have enough money to do the start-up, where-as most people can't do it. yes there are many places that don't use a/c either, as cal or az,etc they use swamp cooler or a whole house fan with all the windows open.

i have been working in the hvac field for about 40 yrs. the basic theory of refrigation is the movement of heat from one place to another. when companies talk about how good and efficient their units are you need to know how and where they are at their rated efficientcy. a heat pump is and a/c in a reversed mode. instead of taking heat from inside and putting it outside, it's taking heat from outside to inside.a heat pump is most efficient between 70- 30 degrees( may vary from area to area but not much). when the tempertures drop below the lower temps and ice starts to form on the outside unit, it will go into defrost mode, which is, it goes into a/c mode and brings on the aux. heat form(electric or gas) to counteract the cold air this produces. at this time you are running the a/c and heat at the same time, so your cost are doubled. at this time it's cheaper to use electric or gas heat. it's a electric heat pump if it's got electric heaters to helpout when the temps get colder or a dual fuel heat pump when you use gas or oil heat. a geo thermal system uses water thru a loop of pipes ran in the ground to transfer the heat. it can be buried in the ground in the yard or drill a well and insert the loop into the well usually in water( how deep it's buried is to a point where the temperture remains almost a constant year round. when looking at a gas furnace, you need to look at the afue rating on the unit( etc 80%). this means that for every $ of gas you put into the heater you get 80 cent of heat into the house and 20% goes out the flue. 93% would save you 13 cents more than the 80%. of course the 93% will cost more to install, but you will save the differance in a few yrs. you can also install a water source which uses a water heater(gas or elec.) to heat water and then ran thru a coil in the unit to remove the heat to the house area. fuel oil produces the hottest heat per unit of any other type of heat source( but you do get a oily smell in your house.ventless lods or ventless infrared heater are the best because they are 99.7% efficient. when you use vented logs or wood fireplace you loose a lot of heat up the chimmey. if you are handy and can do the work, you can go on e-bay and buy unit at about the same prices i get them for. or you can pay me to me and put it in for you when i have time!! if you need to talk about what you can do, you can call me and talk about it.

most lp tanks have a pressure and temperture relief valve on them as they get hot it will open and release gas till it cools down the valve shuts, till it heats up again.most states and local restrictions says at least 50 ft from any structure or dewelling.
