Carb leak 2
tazmocycle replied to Joe West's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
joe where are you located? if you're close to birminham, al, i maybe able to help you out if dealer can't. i have a couple sets of carbs(one set rejetted and a opened air box with k&n filter, which will give it a little more boost of power). i was thinking of having a meet, eat and maintance day maybe around mermrial day weekend. let me know if i can help you out, don. -
moose, your bike has a differant mounting for the mufflers than the venture. your hanger is vertical and venture is hortizonal. i think the venture mufflers are a little longer tha yours too. go to youtube.com and enter Tazmocycle and you can hear my '01 with bub exhaust pipes and sampson fishtails. enter royal star or venture and you can hear several others with differant mufflers on them. you can do a few things to your to get a little more pep out of it. you can rejet and open up the airbox, put in a dyna-tech 3000 ign box and up the rev limiter and up the timing or put v-max rear gears in about 11% lower gears, or put the 32 mm carbs off a venture or 05-present tds. the pipes and mufflers won't change the torque much.

What Model RSTD do I have?
tazmocycle replied to ToyOdie's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
i hate to rain on ya'll parade but mine is a 2001 model and has the switch behind the right side of the seat! it's a boulivard model. i also have a 96 strd and a 97 tcI that has the switch behind the seat! so those that mean i don't have an 01 but a 96 or 97?? maybe i need to sue yamaha and lakehill motors for selling me a 96 or 97 as a 2001 model?? the first pic is my 01 blvd with large slant bags off a 98 tcII and second is of my 97 tcI(papa dan's old bike) which you see on the fender and has the key switch behind the seat. as i know all the tcII and td's had the switch up front because of the bags being in the way to get to it easyly. not 1000% sure of that but most i've seen has had it there. -
i'll sent you mine off my 97 and see if it reset it, if it does just send it back and i'll have a new no millage 97 royal!! i do have a wrecked 96 with 5700 miles on it but i want to keep it with the motor as i'm going to put it into my 97 that has a bad motor.just keep up with the millage and record it and where the dealer replaced it. if you sell it just pass that on to the next owner. the law is for those who purposilly set out to cheat you by resetting the odometer.

in 1974 they avertised the volkswagen rabbit would out-ran a vette from 0-60, i had a mazda rx-3 wagon with the rotory engine in it and i blew several rabbits away from the get-go, never could keep up. the rx had a four barrel carb on it and it'd run over 140 mph top-end. back in 1974 when they first came out with pistrol type radar, Al trooper lockme at 97.5 but said i was running over 100 when i first hit it, i had just dusted an olds 442 w-30 hurst and was running over 140 a few miles back. remember them!! most napa stores has a huge selection of metric bolt and nut etc. if you live in a big city area, just look up screws and bolts in yellow, if they don't have them they'll get them. i use to work on all kind of food made in netherlands and germany and they all had metric bolts and nuts, and they keeped us stocked up with them.

you can put about any lenth you want, just run the cables between the triple-tree and the tank instead of in front of it. my friend added 3" risers to his and used stock cables doing it that way. if you do change out the cable and clutch hose use the ss and it'll help your clutch from being spongey feeling. i have never cared for beach bars as they strech your hands way too far out for comfort. just me tho!! don did add a section for us on here a few years back and has helped out a lot but i still like my other forum too. all are great places to find out things to help you out.

01 rstd Speedometer problems
tazmocycle replied to pastorized's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
steve, he has the standard royal star pastorized, you can take out the 3 allen head screw holding the chrome trim around the speedo and look at the wiring plug at the front of the tank. see if it corruded, it comes out on the left side and runs by the frame to the back. if that looks ok, then you may have a bad key switch, is your's on the front of the frame or behind the seat on the right side? some have taken the switch apart and cleaned the contacts and it may start working again. you may try wiggling the key and see if that effects it. let me know what you find, don. you may want to checkout this wbsite; it has a lot of guys with the same bike you have. http://forums.delphiforums.com/royalstar/ i have a wrecked 96 with the switch behind the seat, if you cann't find one, but i would like to keep it because i have a 97 and a 01 with the same switch. -
mellco, gene weir (tew47) had the same problem you are having and after putting a small camera into the cylinder found a hunk of carbon down in there holding the valve open. you may want to talk to him about it, these engines are known for carboning up if not riden a lot at higher rpms. i sent you an e-mail about a techron flush you may want to try before spending a lot of money for something a lot simplier. hope it's something simple and nothing major, i'm also now looking at a 86 venture with only 11,00 miles on it, which a mechanic told him the rings were bad in it after setting up for a couple of years. i hope to go take a look at it and help him out or buy it for $300 and fix it myself. i only have 5 bikes at the time and really don't need another!!LOL keep us posted as what you find out, don.

there's not much aftermarket mufflers for the 96-01 royal. you may run upon a set ever once in a while. post your question over on this forum, it's mainly for the 96-01 royals. some of these guys may be able to help find some. http://forums.delphiforums.com/royalstar/start i had the 4x4s on mine and put all the saddlebags and mounting and 4x2 complete exhaust system from a venture.

Need some help identifying an RSTD.
tazmocycle replied to Condor's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
there are 4 styles of the royal star that was made from 96-01. my 01 royal star boulivard came with medium height windshield, running lights and cheap yamaha seats(was avaible in all yrs). tour classic I came with 4x4 exhaust, long windshield passenger floorboards sisy bar and short yamaha hard leather bags. tour classic II came with 4x2 exhaust, tall windshield, pass. floorboard, sisy bar, and large slant soft leather bags. both tour classic had the running lights. tour deluxe came with 4x2 exhaust, tall windshield, pass. floorboards, running lights, sisy bar and hard plastic saddle bags that had front and back latches and came off( lot was lost on rides when not latched down good) all of these bikes had 28 mm carbs, single springs on valves and smaller cams several hp ratings has appeared and i think the differances is between crank and rear wheel ratings, but its around 76 rear wheel from several i've seen dynoed. the venture came out in 99 built off the royal star engine with 32mm carbs double springs on valves, counter-balancer, bigger cams, and a little differant gearing. the "new" royal star tour deluxe came back out in 05 with same motor as venture. it don't matter when they are sold, it's when the vin #s says the year model it is.i bought a '01 in 04/01 and it's a 01 and my friend bought a '05 td in july '04 but it's still a '05. some dealer put differant parts on differant models in an attemt to up sell their bike or just to get rid of them back in those days when they weren't selling too good. i was told by several yamaha dealers that they would'nt sell anymore because they weren't worth it. one dealer here, that told me that, got 3 just after i bought mine in cornth, ms, he had them for almost 3 years because he wouldn't come down off the high prices he had on them because he thought since yamaha wasn't making them anymore, he could get it. i got mine for $2400 less than he was wanting. i have put dyna 3000 ign mog and opened airbox with k&n filter and rejetted carbs and i have out ran bored and stroked harlies while pulling my trailer behind me. it has plenty of power to do what i want!! -

if it's a lot of harley riders, i give the ok to speed up signal.LOL!! just kidding. i had a friend who was flashing his lights to warn others of speed trap, and he meet a cop coming back from pulling somebody over. the cop flippped around, pulled him over, and when he walked up to him, he said "where you going paul revere?" he gave him a ticket for interfering with offical police work. i always tap the top of my helmet or circle my finger in a circle above my head. i've seen some do the slow down signal, too.

Solo RSTD
tazmocycle replied to hunter 1500's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
yea! the tour classicII can with the slant leather bags stock item. tcI had the short leather bags and 4x4 exhaust and tour deluxe came with the hard bags with removal double latched lids( lot of them hit the road if not latched down good). i got mine from a friend who put harley hard bags on his, but it never looked right. i went with the venture bags because the lids don't come off and they bolt right up to the older frames. -

my brother and me use to build trailers and all we did was stamp a set of numbers on it and apply for a home-made trailer title.. i've done it in sc, al and tn with out any problems. i never have got tags for personal use trailers in any of the states i've lived in. never be pulled for towing a trailer in over 30 states i traveled in. if you have friends in sc, they maybe able to register it there with the coleman tag numbers and then write a bill of sale to you. all you have to show is a dollar on the bill of sale to keep from pay a lot of taxes on the sale.

the other day while watching tv, there was an ad for some lawyers and they said if you suffered ill-effects from using polygrip(i think or one of them) to call their office. i guess after 50 or more years somebody is having trouble and they figured they could sue somebody over it. you may want to do a search and see if you can find anything about it. walmart should carry all the differant ones as a lot of people use it. i have upper and lower since the '80s and us it rarely. i started out with plastic one and after several yrs of breaking them, i went to metal and they have lasted more than 20 yrs.

I HATE WACHOVIA!!! due to my ex-wife( we were maried at the time) not paying on our credit card account for 3 months they jacked up my rate and hit me with late charges. i called them when i found it out and told them what happened and wanted to get some kind of payment plan worked out with them because of my money shortage. they did the same thing to me with the payments i sent them, the only thing is i put a stop payment on the first check that they said they didn't get. i told them to send it to the collection agency and i'd deal with them, so i borrowed the money from my sister to pay the amount off. then wachovia reported the account was written off as not payed. i wrote letters for 6 months trying to get it straighten out and then another company(cu mgr told me this) reported the same account # and amount as not being payed off. had trouble borrowing money from my credit union and they sent me a credit report and that how i found out what they had done to me. i took a copy of the cashier's check of where i had payed it off to my cu and they finally got my loan. i could never get it straighten out thru wachovia till the 10 yr limit ran out. that is why i always keep a check on my credit report from all 3 companies that do it. i deal with a local cu because the members are part owners of it and get better customer service. i talked to a lawyer about sueing them but you have to keep good records of when, who, what, where, why and date & time of every time you deal with them.
