Would be even worse for you upside down folks. The forks would slip DOWN and completely off the motorcycle. The front of the motorcycle would become detached from the earth and attempt to float away. If you don't have a heavy passenger or enough junk in the bags there might not be enough gravity left on the rear tire to keep the whole wring from flying off into outer space.

I haven't used one but have this observation: It's 1,500 watts. That's about the same as most hand held blow dryers. It's not going to heat a whole room very much and it'll take awhile to do it. I used to use a 1500 watt heater in a 10x10 office in my old shop. It took a couple hours to warm the room from 50 degrees to comfortable enough to take the coat off. Being infrared though if you aim it at you it'll probably feel warm on your body fairly quickly. By the way, you're not likely to find one bigger than 1500 watts. That's about the limit for a standard residential circuit.

I gotta weigh in too: It certainly isn't common. If it were to happen it'd be very dangerous. If it does happen it will be because of some other failure, most likely the bonehead with a wrench. The good news is those clamps generate a lot of force and the torque specs on the bolts are usually modest. In my experience most garage monkeys over tighten them.

I sold Toyotas for awhile. Amazing the number of recent Ford retirees that came in to buy a Toyota. They couldn't wait to get in once they didn't have to explain it at work.

If you end up swapping out the rear shock you might consider putting a progressive spring on the new one. It's especially nice if you'll be riding 2-up.

Grip & Highway Peg Question?
MiCarl replied to af226's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
The grips are 7/8". You also have to be concerned with the length, which I don't know off hand but you can measure your current grips. I had put foam grips on my 89. While they were ok, the foam wore and tore after a couple years. The wear was from pushing the motorcycle, not riding. If you don't have to push around the garage much they might last longer. I replace the foam grips with the Kuryakyn ISO grip (size for GoldWing). The large diameter is super comfortable, they look great and seem quite durable. This would be my recommendation. I don't like that style of on the pegs you linked. The steps in the cones will damage the chrome. I've got a set of Kuryakyn pegs with the buckhorn mount. The mount lets me have them down and forward of where a straight mount would sit. Way more $$ than the set you're considering. -
Actually, union dues are tax deductible. At least I deduct SWMBO's

Is there some way we can have a pool on how long until this topic gets deleted? I think I see the long shadows of moderators circling.

I'll share what I've learned about my '04 Colorado: Almost everything in the vehicle is controlled by the Body Control Module (BCM). When I turn the instrument dimmer switch it doesn't dim the lights directly but instead is read by the BCM which should dim the lights. In my case the BCM only dims the radio. If I disconnect the battery for a half hour the BCM straightens out and the lights work ok for awhile. In my research I found similar things with power windows, door locks etc. There were some service bulletins on the Colorado related to problems with the BCM caused by corrosion on its electrical connectors. Wouldn't be surprised if the same stuff is going on with the Envoy. Did you get it from a GM dealer? They should be familiar with any common gremlins.

You're not kidding. He'll get way more than his money's worth.

Damn! You know I only do "no pants chat".

The one I read was on an 86. Was etched into the side of the housing quite clearly. Anyhow, it's on there. Getting the switch off so you can see it is the fun part!

Do you know that the key code is on the side of the ignition switch?

Van gave you good advice. I'd do one thing first though: Remove the spark plugs and squirt some penetrating oil in there. Let it soak over night. Then try turning the engine (with plugs still out). That way you won't be dragging the rings over a dry bore and if they are stuck the penetrating oil will help free them.

I do. Not a big fan of the other products, although the chocolate doughnut gems with chocolate milk are pretty decent.

Compressed air will work on the throttle side too.

I'll bet all the big chains have the same exact policy. They have to enforce the policy every time or it stops being a policy and they'd be open to the lawsuits. Maybe the corner mom and pop parts store doesn't have the be a victim policy.

I think it's a press fit. I've had them pull out from time to time at the shop. I just press them back in and give a tap or two with a screwdriver handle. Never had a problem.

Add a trunk and cassette deck and it'd be a credible Venture replacement. Anyone taking bets on 2014?

I agree.

Mine was full of problems with those switches. Turned out they needed cleaning. If you disassemble the control unit you will find those buttons are backed by a molded rubber sheet. Under the sheet is a circuit board with switches mounted to it. I sprayed electronics cleaner into each switch and operated it several times while still wet. That cleared up the problems. Someone also had a line on replacement switches. Perhaps something will turn up as the rest of the U.S. gets out of bed.....

Fuel leaking when choke is used to start
MiCarl replied to GeorgiaYankee's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Even if the carburetor holders (manifolds) are cracked there shouldn't be liquid fuel there. Everything going through there should be fully atomized. Also, there is nothing about the enricheners that would leak fuel. It's much more likely to be a float sticking that shakes loose once the engine starts. A leak at the petcock is also possible if you're turning it on or off. Either problem will keep getting worse until it's a big deal.
