Yep, came across the 2nd gear problem while researching but thanks for the heads up and year demarcation. I'm also looking at an '86 but it has left side fairing damage around the turn signal.

Hey thanks for the welcome. I completed a frame-up Kawasaki project earlier this year, a ZG1000 Concours with GPz900 fairings, engine components, ZX11 pistons, porting, kinda went overboard on the speed part and now it's really no suited to long trips but is loads of fun on the commute. See pic. I'm looking at obtaining a early Venture, preferably non-Royale as I don't feel the need for linked braking and such. Have my eye on one, a 1983 with clean bodywork and no rust, but suggestions on others available are welcome. Whatever I get will likely go through the same front to back rebuild and if there's any way to overbore a 1200 to 1300 to get as-new compression and whatever V-Max parts that crossover for more punch please point me in the right direction.
