I carry a can of fix a flat. My thinking is for emergency/temporary use until I get home and pull the tire. I would think the reason that it is not recommended for motorcycles is because people tend to fix the flat and forget about it. Same as with ride on. You could be running around with all kinds of stuff sticking in your tires and not know about it. When we are riding 2up on the freeway @70 and a semi passes I don't like to be thinking about what might be going on inside my tires! Just my 2 cents.

Sounds great, put us down for two sets. Billet and Cruiselady.

Think about this, It seems about half of us are pro patching a tire and about half say replace. I just replaced a new rear Avon with 450 miles on it. I ordered the new tire before I even dismounted the flat. It had a drywall screw in it and when I finally got to see the inside, it was sticking right through one of the cords. Why would you want to ride for two years not knowing what is sticking through your tires:confused24:

I mounted my Harbor Junk changer to a 6' 2X10. Just park one wheel of the truck on the other end and it's not going anywhere. I don't use the bar that came with it. I just use 3 tire irons and some little chunks of plastic to protect the rim. Did have to make some plastic standoffs for the 3 jaws on the changer, otherwise you need to take one of the rotors off the front wheel. Built my own balancer, crude but it works. NAPA has a gallon of tire mount lube for $6.99, don't like the idea of using soap. I saw one clip on the web where the guy sprayed the bead with furniture polish:confused24:?? After the first tire, it not a bad job at all.

How about when you are using the old carbtune and you are going from side to side of the bike adjusting and you go to neal down on the left side of the bike and your knee hits the shift lever and it goes into 2nd like right now and moves fwd a few inches before the kickstand switch kills it. Came about this close to going over!

Hey Pete, Heres my opinion, From Santa Fe north to Pojoaque, NM4 west through Los Alamos and back down to San Ysidro where you will pick up 550. Forget 126, it's dirt. NM96 is nice but you see plenty of that stuff in Utah. NM4 has some nice twisties and you will be going through some awsome high country that will feel good in July. If I can be of more help, Let me know. Be safe, Gary

Something else to look out for. I changed plugs yesterday and when I went to remove the fuel hose from the tank valve (fingers only) the whole brass tube pulled out of the valve. This could ruin your whole day if it fell out on the road. Imagine nice warm $3.78 a gal. gasoline running down your left calf and filling your boot. I made an aluminum drift and tapped it back in gently but I think I will still come up with a way to safety wire it. Anyway you might want to give your's a good tug before your next ride and make sure you turn it to off every time you shut off the engine, especially if you have an 04.

I tend to go with max sidewall listed pressure. When I mounted my 2nd rear Venom in 2 weeks (picked up a 2" drywall screw @ 450mi:mad:) I took the wheel over to Costco and they were happy to air it up with nitrogen. Seems to make a difference of about 2# in the hot pressure. If you never checked pressure after a 2up ride on a hot day you will be amazed.

Glad someone mentioned this. I've had the 04 for about 3 months now and it has always had the old right front clatter for about 45 seconds @ cold start up. I asked about it at the dealer and I got:confused24:. I guess now it's common and nothing to worry about. By the way 20-40 Yamalube.

Try the 150/90B15, The 16 might fall off the rear. You can get em cheap @ Dennis Kirk also. Make sure you don't order the 150/90V15 by mistake like I did. It has a higher speed rating but carries about 175# less. You'll love the Avons!

Thanks Freebird, Donation sent, Heck the other Venture site charges $25 a year and this one is better. Where else can I find what to get Mama for Mother's day or what brand of overpriced sunglasses to buy!!

You could be in big trouble. I grew up in PA and visited here 35 years ago and here I still am. You will want to be sure to make your ride include the Ruidoso area. Silver City area also has some great roads. I am still partial to the enchanted circle. That's north from ABQ to Taos then across to Angel Fire, Eagle nest and Red River. We usually travel in the RV so I'm not really up on the lodging but you should have no problem finding motels along the way. Sounds like an great trip and if the weather holds like it has you might not see a drop of rain!! Gary

Watch out for that 17# on the front axle pinch bolt. Before you tighten the axle, leave it out about 1 turn from bottoming out and tighten the pinch bolt to 17# and see if the axle still turns. Mine does until about 22#. A drop of oil on the threads is always good too.

Here you go, The first Hybrid motorcycle:rotf:

Thanks for the input!! Yes I did consider that the front tire is narrower (in fact I am running a MT90 and love it) and you do need to repeat the measurement on both sides. This may be where I am headed, I haven't done the math yet but it would actually be only around .010 or .012. If it comes to that I'll be sure to post the results.

If anyone has used a string to align the rear wheel on your dirt bike (or any chain drive) you will know where I am going. Have had the 04 for about a month now and it always felt like it was pointed a hair to the left going down the road. I just put a new set of Venoms on last week and had everything apart. Even pulled the drive shaft for a check. Every thing looked good, carefully re assembled, axles straight, nothing tweaked, still felt like something was off. Today I did a check (see attached diagram) and sure enough the front wheel is about .4" to the right. Just to make sure I was on the right track I rolled the bike to a different spot on the tire and checked again. Same reading. I balanced the wheels myself and the tires run remarkably true with the wheel. Then I checked the old Vstar and go figure, it is dead on. Bike has never been dropped, no damage what so ever. Can't see any way to adjust. Adding a shim between the drive shaft tube and dif. housing would be moving it the wrong way. Do I just have a bent bike??

Thanks for all your input. Now I have more checking to do. Looks like I will at least be leaving State Farm!

Just curious, Does anyone use Geico ins.? State farm is hitting me up for about triple what I would pay @ Geico. Has anyone actually had a claim with Geico? Thanks, Gary
