  1. Wonderful job on the repairs.
  2. I saw this URAL for sale in Mpls. Another bike I would like. Then I could ride all year in the snow. I definitely have a problem. Too many bikes I want and not enough

  4. Well that isn't hard to do with a bike as UGLY as that.
  5. Those of us that still believe in Liberty and Freedom call the ACLU the Anti Civil Liberties Union. Believe it or not they even have enough support in our Congress to have gotten a law passed that pays them every time the sue the Federal Government regardless if they win or loose. And Supreme Court Jurist Ruth Bader Ginsburg was a former lead attorney of the ACLU. We've got problems. No enemy abroad will hurt us as bad as those enemies we have put in our own Government.
  6. I just want fair warning if you do so I can move to Texas before is becomes the only free country left in the world.
  7. How do you keep the iPod from vibrating to death? My 30Gb 5th Gen will lock up due to the vibration of the bike. The little hard drives in these things just don't like vibration. One of these days I'm going to buy a little iPod nano just for the bike. No hard drive in those.
  8. I was thinking the same thing as soon as you mention corrosion. Having grown up in my Dad's gas station garage I did lots of tune ups and dielectric grease was the order of the day on the older cars. I never did try to clean the old stuff up since we just tossed out the plugs, caps and wires during most tune ups.
  9. Once your ready to find a house check out http://www.readyrealestate.com This broker is one of our clients and I know they are a good bunch of people to work with. Good luck with the job hunt. I here the hunting is good in Texas.
  10. Actually some good baked beans will work better.
  11. Freedom means I have the freedom to say 2+2=4
  12. I use Coleman camp chairs and we strap them to the luggage rack when not pulling the trailer. http://www.target.com/Coleman-Quad-Chair-with-Cooler/dp/B000MQ672C
  13. I'm betting South Seattle Yamaha Sports Plaza has them for less. http://www.yamahasportsplaza.com/ SKU: 4XY-82310-00-00 IGNITION COIL ASSY 1 $46.90 SKU: 4XY-82310-10-00 IGNITION COIL ASSY 1 $46.90 SKU: 4XY-82320-10-00 IGNITION COIL ASSY 1 $49.25 SKU: 4XY-82320-00-00 IGNITION COIL ASSY (backordered) 1 $49.25 I have a 99 Venture - I'm guessing it's a good idea to change these out if they have never been changed out?
  14. I'm very interested in your results since I'm an old electronics nut from way back. That and I've never been able to figure out why this bike of mine is off just a bit in performance. I'm wondering if Freebird still has the coil he replaced. As you stated there is nothing more accurate than using the o-scope to analyze these to see exactly what is happening. I'd bet you could even control the temp of a coil and slowly heat one up to see if a suspect coil runs good cold then fails as it warms. That would be a neat test. Next question: Where are the coils located and what does it take to replace them both cost and effort?
  15. Wow, another great ride. The Great River Road is a fun ride. We've done it from St. Paul, MN to Keokuk, IA and back. We did a similar thing hugging the river most of the way. The bike vibration killed the GPS part way through the trip and then later the vibration killed my laptop. That was a bad trip for some of my electronics. We loved hitting the small little towns and we stopped at most of the lock and dams to look around and take photos. If you rode through Holy Cross, IA you saw some wonderful roads and views. Glad you had a great trip.
  16. Wonderful trip. I would love to get out that direction on two wheels sometime.
  17. Wow, talk about adding some chrome. Lets see the dry weight of that bike is about 840lbs. With the chrome and coins it must weigh in near 1400-1500lbs? Plus the big dude rider? How does it move?
  18. They are dead wrong in the manual - my guess is the Japanese to English translators hosed the metric conversions. There is no way this bike will run in 5th gear at 31 Mph. It would just lug something terrible. I went with the Clearview XX Large Wide Tinted and Vented windshield. It has a different slope than stock and I don't notice any glare off the dash. http://www.clearviewshields.com
  19. We never had MTBE in Minnesota. We've only had the corn ethanol (big farm state) here and it will wick up water faster than normal gas. E10 will gum things up faster, can't be stored long and costs far more to produce than they make selling it. I wrote a piece about this on my political blog (Warning - It is political!)
  20. I went to the Dunlop website and started looking at the MC tire charts. D404 http://www.dunlopmotorcycle.com/tirecatalog_tire.asp?id=37 Elite 3 http://www.dunlopmotorcycle.com/tirecatalog_tire.asp?id=86 I notice the E3 MV85B15 starts out new with greater tread depth than the D404 150/90-15. 11/32 vs. 9/32 This would explain some of the longer life of the tire. That and the E3 is rated for a higher weight load. The suckage part for me is the E3 comes in black wall only. I guess I'll stick with the D404. They've been working out good for me so far.
  21. Does the Dunlop E3 come in a wide white wall? I can't find any like that.
  22. This is my second set of Dunlop 404 WWW. I had about 12k on the tire last time when a giant MN tire eating pothole got it's teeth into it took a chunk of rubber of it. Maybe I get more miles out of it because I spend so much time riding on the side of them in the corners?
  23. Nothing. I have a '99 RSV. I had Bubs exhaust and K&N air filters on it for a while. No difference in performance. I finally took the Bubs off ans went back to stock. I kept the K&N because they are still good. Tuning and carb syncing should be all you need. A few people here have replaced the ignition module with the Dyna 3000. And other have replaced the rear end gears with VMax rear end gears. Some like these mods others don't. Like V7Goose said, learning how to use this V4 is the key. It likes high revs. With me and my wife pulling a trailer I can pass anything up until my wife tells me to slow down. BTW: The 5th gear on these bikes is a real overdrive gear. If you're in 5th and you want to pass, DOWNSHIFT.
  24. And a large community bathtub out back! Place looks nice - congrats.
  25. As my Dunlop 404 WWW rear tire reaches the end of it's life (about 10k so far) I may have to look at the E3. Does it come in a wide white wall? Also, my front tire is no where near being worn out, is there a problem if I run and E3 on the back and leave my Dunlop 404 on the front?
