Huh? My 199 RSV is just shy of 10 years old. In the years I've owned it I've used Fram filters. There was a Fram on it when I bought it 4 years ago. For all I know that's all the previous owner used. There is nothing wrong with my bike. Check with Freebird, what has he been using for his '99 all these years?

My New Clearview Windshield
juggler replied to Tom's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I put the same windshield on two years ago. My wife has neck injuries also and the buffeting she was getting with the stock windshield made the ride painful for her. With the new Clearview the buffeting is gone and so she enjoys the ride much more. The vent just rocks on hot days! And when it's cold I close it and it's like there never was a vent. These are good windshields. yesterday I was riding through intermittent rain and the rain kept washing off the shield so I could see. Remember, use Plexus. Don't be a fool and use a normal gas station squeegee (like I did) and scratch it up. Plexus will cover up the scratches, but you don't want the in the first place. -
Thanks, Black Owl was over and carbtuned my carbs and for the life of us we could not remember the order. I think I'll re-post this in the Carbtuning VR Tech thread.

Have you replace a coil on your RSV?
juggler replied to Freebird's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
So how would someone go about testing for a bad coil? -
Sanity = his wife kicked him in the ribs when she realized how fast he was going.

[hijack] I broke 140mph in an 88 Mustang GT way back in 1988. It was a friends car and we drove from Mpls, MN to St Louis, MO to watch the Cubs and Cards play. (Cubs won!!!) We made the trip in record time doing well over 100mph most of the way. We left at 11:30pm and pulled into St. Louis for breakfast at 7am. Those two lane highways in Iowa are intense at 140mph. Total darkness except four our lights and the glow of the next town on the horizon. That was a fun trip. [/hijack]

As far as I know the top speed on my bike is 90mph. However, I've never tried to take it any faster. I really don't have much of a need for speed. However I am posting because my bike is running a bit piggish now. It's guzzling gas like it's 99 cents a gallon. I know something is wrong. I'm interested in knowing what you find. I am having Black Owl being his carbtune over, but there is n way I'll ever tear the carbs off. I'm not that good of a mechanic. Has anyone ever had the rubber plugs for the vauum ports fail? Mine look very cracked and I don't think they come off without breaking apart.

Anyone Have a rear brake disk
juggler replied to kantornado's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Sorry Ron, no spare parts here, but I saw a company on eBay from Ohio parting out a Second Gen and they had the disks for sale. They sure do go quick especially when all you use are the back breaks. Last year I notice my rear brake pads where down the metal on most of the pads. There was no brake grinding or screeching. I just happened to be checking everything and said oh crap look at that! Luckily I caught it before the disk was shot. -
Mistake buying a Venture?
juggler replied to Trainwreck68's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Actually, most of the RSV's have very few problems and only a few have had more than a few of the 'normal' problems. The problems from the 1999 and 2000 models where addressed in the later model years. About the only issue people have now is that some of these bikes have more 'whine' than others. Very few people that I have read about have had major issues. I can think of two at the moment. The worst problem most of us have is poor customer service from our local dealers. But, then we post the good ones here so hopefuly you'll be able to locate a good dealer if needed. My 1999 Venture with 72k miles only needed minor tune up work and a clutch in the past few years. -
Cool beans. Someday I may even get the Pork in the Pines website programmed. I'm working on graphic/logo ideas (in my head) for the PiP website and possible rally pins. I may have to enlist the help of a professional designer that I know.

You have a real moron in the HR dept. Since you have already reported this to the police, your HR dept, insurance company (your insurance company will have their lawyers go after the tape in a heart beat to keep from paying a claim) and on this forum I would report your HR dept to the local media. I'm sure your company would like the wonderful press coverage. Then I would start looking for a new job.

There appears to be a bit more the the story. They had been involved in an argument for the past mile (claims the woman). She also claims he had been threatening her and trying to run her SUV off the road. There will most likely be more to this story after the police examine the video of a near by surveillance camera.

I bought my liners from Cruiserbackrest.com. This is our third season with ours. http://www.cruiserbackrest.com/product_info.php?products_id=182&osCsid=8f16hd1t6ugsiuo2ak5ubo7bl3 Don't forget the trunk liner and trunk rack bag. And buy a trunk rack if you don't have one. My wife and I love the liners and have gone on week long trips with nothing more than what we can fit in the liners and trunk rack bag. We always have room for everything we needed and few things we didn't need.

Ok, I bought 3 tickets.

If you had Don's problems you'd be fixing this site every time it goes down.

Well, I found the muffler gaskets in town today. I bought them after work and put on the mufflers first thing when I got home. After dinner I finished buttoning up the bike, cleaning the blue off the wheels, putting saddle bags back on, checking tire pressure, checking lights, and making note of the oil filter I needed to buy. The Ride I hit the gas station first thing, poured in a whole can of seafoam and gassed her up. Then I hit Walmart (since all the parts stores where closed) and found the oil filter. Then I took her on a shake down ride. It was only 22 miles, but it was nice to ride. The stock mufflers have a nice low sound to them. Not loud but they can be heard. I think I am going to like these over the BUB's. I got home and let her cool a bit then did the oil change. I put in Amsoil 20x40(?) I will have to check the bottle again to be sure. Ran her a bit on the stand and no leaks. Woo Woo. So this year I took off the wheels (myself) for the first time and did all of my own spring maintenance. It took longer to get to the point of riding since I am so busy, but it was worth the knowledge I gained and the money I saved. Now I sit hear relaxing with a martini.

I went to the Mac Book Pro this winter. Best computer I've ever owned. I am now very tempted to replace my PC desktop with an iMac desktop.
