Good luck with the new scoot, Gary. Glad to see you on two wheels again. Let the chroming begin!!

Thats one of my biggest fears, not being able to ride again. Since im only 52 i'm really hesitant to have this done yet, but im also at a point where the pain is too great at times. I've missed going on many trips because of it, along with some other issues. Right now I have to mount the bike from the high side because I dont trust my left knee to support me. I one leg hop thing...LOL. I already talked to a few who said they would come over with a SawZall and perform surgery for free. You may get your chance.......

I loved the handling on them too, but tires are not designed to chunk, or delaminate like the Metzlers do. After 3 sets of them and losing rubber off of two sets I went back to Avons.

You realize that an antique such as a first gen. like some snowbirds, needs to retire to a warmer climate like Florida so they can deteriorate with dignity.

Im seriously thinking about having knee replacement surgery within the next year. I wanted to wait about 8 more years as I got closer to retirement but the pain is getting to be a drag. Has anyone here had it done and if so, how has it affected your riding. Recovery time? Flexability?

Oil in air box on top of carbs
1BigDog replied to BigShell's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Since the RSV has a really bad lean angle when on the sidestand the oil tends to pool up in those airboxes, especially on the left side. Im guessing that the oil gets pulled up there while the bike is running while on the side stand. One cure is to only add 3.5 qts when changing the oil, not the 3.9 recommended. While it wont eliminate the problem altogether, it will reduce it. I just had my boxes off for cleaning. I had less of a mess than when I did it several years ago. My foam between the vent was also deteriorated so I gut out some gaskets from thick material and replaced it. -
Though our hearts are heavy we all know MeanDog is in a better place. Im sure hes up there with all that sunshine and miles of unblemished paved roads with a broad smile on his face. Prayers go out to his family and friends. May they find peace too. Ride ON Brother............

Last price quoted me from them was about 2003 and they were charging about 350.00 (for the airboxes only) then with an 8 week turnaround time. They had done a venturers members 99 RSV airboxes, his kick panels inside the fairing and some other pieces. I saw the bike in Daytona..it looked real nice too.

1BigDog replied to Trimster's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
You know, I was gonna say that in my previous post but I assumed the shop was using one. Now I see they had one but didnt use it..Hmmmmm Maybe the next set should go on by a different installer...... -
If im not mistaken you can get a spin filter adapter for the 1st gens. I think JP Cycles sells one. www.buckeyeperformance.com also sells one for 95.00.
