  1. Very nice indeed. I cant add anything to this. I have to admit that when I saw the name prior to reading the post I had a cold chill run down my spine until I realized it was Genes Dad. I thought the worst for a second.
  2. Oh I so wish that I could go too.........
  3. Wow, very nice cartoon. Im really sorry to have missed the real Muffins last weekend. I was busy at work trying to make my yeast rise. And I so wanted to frost Muffinmans donuts, I really did. My bikes not running too well either. Sigh.
  4. I used a good black moly high temp grease on mine. Greasing the splines makes the assembly quieter. Yamaha is notorious for using very little to no grease on the splines and eventually you will get a clicking sound from back there. The shaft is press fit into the pumpkin, not bolted in. Place something soft under the pumpkin and give the shaft a sturdy pull and it should seperate. Make note of the spring inside the rear end portion of the drive shaft and make sure you re-install it. Dont ask me how I remember this step.... Also, before you tighten the pumpkin (4 bolts) to the shaft tube slip in the rear axle minus the wheel to align the pumpkin properly. Lightly tap around the mating point to get it into position then torque your bolts. The rear should be properly aligned now. While your in a slippery mood you may also want to remove the rear wheel spline and clean the rust off of the fingers, grease it lightly and re-install. A circlip holds it in. As far as the factory manual goes, there are several errors in there. Just wait till you try and sync your carbs per the manual...
  5. I went from an 83 to a 99 5 years ago. It felt strange at first with the forward controls and the top heavy feeling but after a few weeks it felt fine. Its gonna feel heavier and a bit more cumbersome in the twisties but as you get more familiar with the bike it should be easier for you. Keep in mind that these are two different types of bikes and handling will most definitely be different. After my 99, I could never go back to a 1st gen again.
  6. Congrats, Clay. Shes a beaut.
  7. Hmmm, Sounds like a good VR tee shirt..."I got Wet at Don's" for the first timers, and "I got Wet at Don's AGAIN" for the veterans......:rotf::whistling:
  8. OK, it is supposed to be mess free, however after several applications I would recommend at the tire change to thoroughly clean the rim as it will build up over time. The first two times were ok but the third time it was pretty messy.
  9. I have used Ride-On in my last 4 sets of tires. I think the stuff is great. I first used it when shortly after purchasing my 99 used, at 1000 miles the rear tire picked up a nail. (the previous owner had just installed a set of Avons) I called Ride On and spoke to an owner who told me to leave the nail in. Once the Ride On arrives, follow the instructions, which are, let all of the air out of the tire by removing the valve, install 1 bottle of Ride On into the valve, blow out the valve opening with a shot of compressed air, install the valve, fill to desired pressure, ride the bike for 5 miles to evenly distribute the stuff. Thats the normal procedure. As far as my nail issue goes, I did all of the above, got home, pulled the nail out and the tire began to leak. As per his instructions I hopped on the bike and rode it another 5 miles. Within 1 block the air stopped leaking. When I got back, I topped off the tire and for the next 13k I had no issue with it. On the RSV you use 1 bottle per tire.

  15. As I was filling the bike up at the Gate station on US-1 South I looked up and saw V4ME passing my pump. I nodded as I couldnt wave with the pump in my hand and he just gave a nod and kept on going. Well, Buddy, just how many portly guys you know on a absolutely drop dead gorgeous 99 Venture??? Well?? :rotf:

  18. All I can say is that my rates "Progressively" went up each year with Progressive. With Geico, my rates lowered each year for the same coverage....go figure.
  19. You telling me im gonna have a trailer in my driveway????
  20. I agree that we need to start drilling NOW. No more pussyfooting around. The Arabs are laughing their asses off at us. We want them to increase production but our bleeding heart politicians cant do what is right for OUR country. And yes, im talking about Republicans as well as Democrats. I mean, along with the Dem reps here in Fla, our former Gov, Republican Jeb Bush (W's brother) and Republican Mel Martinez voted against drilling off the Florida coast. That NIMBY attitude has got to stop. The claim that it would hurt the tourism industry here is a crock. Last time I stood on Ft Walton Beach in the Gulf I could not see any oil rigs with the naked eye. Also, think of all the hurricanes that blasted across those Gulf rigs without any oil loss. So whats the problem????
  21. I use the same procedure as Don, but since im not as strong as he is:whistling:I usually place a automotive type of floor jack just under the rear tire, coming in from the right side. Once I remove the axle I take the pressure off the tire by raising it ever so slightly and I work it off the splines, pulling the jack out to the right slowly. Once things clear I let the jack down slowly. You do have to remove the jack to finally get the wheel out from under. Same procedure in reverse to install.
