Nothing special, Mike...just a deadline to finish it. Last one took me 3 months with all the hand diamond plating I did. So ECK...how about making a cash investment on improvements to "YOUR" bike. I mean you do want it to be top notch for when you inherit it, dontcha??? I figure new rear shock..chrome forks, chrome wheels and i'd even install WW tires just for you...Lets see....maybe $3.000 will cover it nicely.

So, I know this has been beaten into the ground over the years but it looks like my 99's rear shock with 55k on it is finally giving up the ghost. The last two days there has been a small puddle of oil under the shock. No, its the shock, not the vent tubes. Since the bike is way out of warranty I was wondering if there is a TSB from Yamaha on this issue. I have not heard of one before but I could have missed it. Also, has anyone here had any luck with convincing a dealer to give you a new shock for self install based on the history of failures. My next move is a Works shock but for now id take a stock shock if I can glean one from a dealer for free under warranty until I raise the needed cash for the Works. Any ideas????

Ill be starting on my new H/F trailer soon. Bought the 8" wheel kit this past spring and just picked up a Karrite Explorer carrier from Pep Boys yesterday. This will be my second trailer that I have built. The first one was stock size with a 20cf Sears topper and 12" wheels. I had diamond plated the frame, which was time consuming. The new one will be closely color matched, narrowed and shortened. Hopefully ill have it ready by Sept. I think the Explorer topper is sturdier than the Sears topper and it opens from the side. It also looks more aerodynamic than the Sears...you know, for less wind drag on those 150 mph interstate runs....

brake pads?????
1BigDog replied to Silver Bullet's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I got the HH+ pads on the rear with no issues. Just remember those rear pads need looking at and most likely changing by the 12k-13k mark.- 4 replies

The factory pads leave alot to be desired. Mine always squealed like a pig. Had a metal to metal sound. I replaced them at 26k with an aftermarket pad and the squeal went away. However the second set of pads didnt last as long as the originals so I changed them last summer with EBC HH+ pads and I love them. No squeal either.

Carb Heater Cut-out Switch
1BigDog replied to V7Goose's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Very nice Goose. Here in FL I really have no need for a carb heater most of the year. This gives me a good option. Thanks! By the way, that location directly below is where I mounted the relay for the Stebel horn. -
When I had my 83 I had an intermittent problem like your experiencing. It would run fine then quit, run fine again and quit again. After hitting a huge bump the bike completely died along the Interstate. Turns out that one end of one of the fuses had popped loose under the tank cover and was barely making contact. Vibration raised it, which would cut off the engine and once it settled down it made contact slightly. Im hoping that its something as simple as this for you.

Your welcome......:rotfl:

Wow, no more Albino Rhino....I sure can understand the heaviness of the 2nd gen though. I may have to go to a sidecar in the next few years if my knee replacement surgery dont go well next year. Mike, best of wishes and good luck with the trike.

I know many of you are going on various trips this 4th weekend. Beer, Muffy, and all those heading to various meets and vacations: You all have a safe and great trip.

I just wont say whose size 10 boot knocked it off but judging from the location you can guess who did it. Yes, the lovely Mrs Ruff knocked off the PTT button on the left trunk armrest. So, if anyone here has a spare button just taking up space on your work bench or jewelery box, I need one. Thanks....

Hang in there JT and Jeannie. Our prayers are with you.

Attn FL riders...or aint this a kick in da pants!!
1BigDog replied to 1BigDog's topic in Watering Hole
In a way im glad too. Since the price of gas has skyrocketed, several of my co-workers have bought bikes. Knowing what I know about them makes me shiver in my boots. I barely trust them walking, much less on a large bike. Yes, they all went large too. -
Does passing wind count as music???

Man Gary..you scared me there for a sec. I thought you sold the bike and the motorhome!! Whew. That is sure a nice truck though.

I just saw this on the news tonight. Seems Florida wants us to ALL be certified on a M/C. Even us old timers. At a cost of $200.00+! Plus they let us know 4 days in advance of the law taking place. What kind of garbage is this. Sounds pretty unconstitutinal to me. Especially given the fact that they have charged extra all these years for a M/C endorsement. At least grandfather in the older riders. Certification Required For All FL Motorcycle Riders http://www.cbs47.com/media/news/7/f/9/7f944998-a100-471a-8724-42c24dc41997/Contributor.jpg Reported by: Kristen Cosby Email: kcosby@tvjaxfl.com Last Update: 4:54 pm Print Story | Email Story http://www.cbs47.com/images/textsize/11N.gifhttp://www.cbs47.com/images/textsize/12S.gifhttp://www.cbs47.com/images/textsize/14N.gifhttp://www.cbs47.com/images/textsize/16N.gif http://www.cbs47.com/media/news/a/0/2/a0228aa9-d85c-407a-b076-66626a63463d/Story.jpg George Drake will soon trade in his car for a motorcycle, figuring he'll cut his family's gas costs in half. "Its convenient, its something that's a thrill and I think probably the way America's gonna go if we continue with our gas prices," said Drake. Florida wants to make sure these growing number or riders rev up safely. Starting July 1 everyone who hops on a hog has to be certified by going through a training course. Even if you've been riding a motorcycle for years, if you don't have that certification, you also have to go to class. Michael Dobbs runs Jacksonville Motorcycle Safety Training and says this law will save a lot of lives. "90 % of people that are self-taught will probably get in an accident, self taught by a friend, an uncle or someone," said Dobbs. The training course is 15 hours long- five hours in the classroom, 10 hours on the bike. The course teaches things like how to avoid an accident and how to maneuver through a tough situation on the road. It average $200. For Drake, it means he'll save gas money and stay safe. "Florida's going the right way by enforcing this course," said Drake.

This site works for the reasons listed above. If I want political debate other than some good natured ribbing there are plenty of political sites to vent at. We dont bicker about religion but we do offer our prayers to anyone here who needs it. I like the way it is just fine.
