Thanks for posting the update. Just glad that no one was hurt. Going without power for several weeks is rough. I was going nuts by the third day here after Fay.

clutch housing gasket
1BigDog replied to wkboard's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
In a perfect world we wouldnt need gasket sealer, but the world aint so perfect..... I tried mine without sealer and it had a slight drip. However I destroyed the new factory gasket when I removed the cover to add the sealer. What I did was to go to the auto supply store and buy a sheet of rubber impregnated gasket material and cut my own gasket. Its slightly thicker than the factory one and much sturdier too. I had enough materials left over for several more gaskets. The factory gasket cost me 12.00...the sheet of gasket material cost me 4.00....hmmmm And yes, I used a blue sealer on the gasket. Just a light coat should do fine. -
Now that is cool...........

Wow, Kevin..sorry to hear that. First your parents then your son. And you not too long ago....Im just glad he wasnt hurt.

Welcome Dave. I guess you see why many of us do our own maintenance on our bikes. Finding a reliable dealer who takes the time to practice good customer care and relations and can fix a bike too is hard to find these days.

Clearview warning
1BigDog replied to James Ardrey's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
When I installed my Clearview shield the first thing I noticed was that it is a bit thicker than the stock shield. I had to "work" the original screws before I was able to get a decent bite. I had intended to get some new screws about 1/8" longer for a better bite but I never did. I think im gonna give that a try now. Its quite possible that the stock screws just dont have the reach for a good tight fit, which could cause some stress on the shield. Just a thought.... -
Hmmmm, another one taking aim at Jax......I did want a few more trees down though.

Yep, Ill attest to Brad being a character...... All kidding aside, Brad is one of the most giving people that I have ever met and im not one to openly praise people. Hes one of the guys that makes this joint what it is. If we cant trust him then its time to shut this site down. Now, I vote for a pond monster tattoo on Brads back, just above the belt line....any seconds????

Front Wheel Bearings
1BigDog replied to SaltyDawg's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Salty, I never truly trust a sealed anything so what I usually do when I replace the front tire is to inject a little black moly lube under the seal into the bearing area with a fine needle point tip which snaps into the end of the grease gun. You wont damage the seal if done properly. I usually just "feel" for an opening between the bearings with the needle and give it a squirt. -

turn signal when brake light comes on
1BigDog replied to ventureblue's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I didnt realize that you have an 07 when I posted. You already have a LED tail light which will illuminate the plate. Mine is a 99 and when I added a LED board it didnt light up the plate, hence the addition of a lighted plate frame. -
I never liked the bicycle kickstand on my H/F trailer. It never held up properly or securely. Whenever it was parked at home I just put a cheap jack stand under the tongue. When I finish building my new one I may try and make some kind of drop down stand, hinged at the top and in the center with a slight forward angle when in the down position. H/F sells one similar but I want to make this out of aluminum to save weight.
