  1. Final update: Well, I fired up the bike and it still wasnt up to snuff. I pulled the rectifier down, cleaned it and the connection up real good and fired it up again. It was a bit better but still not 100%. I am wondering what the rectifier was doing, I thought this was a go or no go piece of equipment? Was the voltage low? No, the charging was fine, but the Signal Dynamics voltage indicator still was more in the yellow than full green. The rectifier was pretty corroded and I felt that even after cleaning I still didnt trust it. I also felt that after the charging issues that I had last year and now the need for a new stator, replacing the rectifier along with the stator was a good choice. Once I replaced it and fired it up, the charging light went immediately to green. I felt the old rectifier was weakened somehow from the bad stator. I went ahead and ordered a new rectifier from Flatout and it came this AM. I installed it, connected the battery and WHAM....full charging again!!!!The higher output stator is doing what it supposed to do too, so all is well. Meaning? It's suppose to operate at 13.8 or so volts, is it operating at a higher voltage? I thought the high output stator was high output Amperage? No, its not charging at a higher voltage. Like I said above...its charging quicker. Thanks Chris at Flatout for expediting the part. Also to Squidly for suffering through my phone calls....and Muffy too! Ill try and put together a Tech Article soon, with pics. __________________

  3. Part Update: The new regulator/rectifier arrived this AM just as Chris at Flatout promised. Thanks Chris for your help in this matter.
  4. Thanks Sarges for all of the updates. Im just glad that hes doing so well at this point. Prayers will still be there though, at least until hes fully recovered.
  5. I agree with Eck...its time for a trailer. Hope you two have a safe trip......no need to ask for pics, im sure you already filled out a few memory cards!! LOL:rotf::rotf:
  6. Maybe you can get by with that exhaust pipe wrap that you see on choppers.....
  7. I ordered a part on Monday from Flatout and was a little concerned that it wouldnt make it here by this weekend as I start my vacation. I called Flatout on Wed and spoke to Chris. Let me tell you something....It was a pleasure speaking to someone at a dealer who actually expressed a genuine concern with my problem. He promised to get it out overnite once it arrives from Yamaha, at the regular shipping price no less. Talk about bending over backwards to help out!! Lets see......great prices and exceptional service.....no brainer where im getting any future parts from. Plus hes a member here too!! http://www.flatoutmotorcycles.com Update: Chris e-mailed me back today to say the part came in and it will be overnighted to me so I should have it on Monday as promised. (UPS is closed on Sat). Im impressed!
  8. Just saw this post myself. So sorry for your loss Gary. Will keep you all in our prayers.
  9. Your middle name wouldnt happen to be "Lucky" would it??
  10. I love my Clearview with the vent. Since installing it I have not had to remove the wind deflectors from the forks in the summer heat here in FL.
  11. Whew,,,glad this was settled, otherwise id have to step in here as a bonafide employee of the Postal Service and clean house........
  12. Oil filter change: I didnt see a mention of it so here goes..... The filter is hard to access with a filter removal tool. I usually just reach in and remove it by hand, allowing the oil to drain. I then clean up the surface area, spread a little oil over the rubber seal and then install, tightening by hand :pushups:until it wont turn anymore. It hasnt loosed up on me yet..... Oh yea...stay away from Fram filters. They are constructed like garbage inside.

  14. I agree with Bill...the updated RSV will be a pleasant surprise. I truly believe that it will come back as a de-tuned VMAX tourer. I just hope that they keep the forward controls and not go back to the 1st gen leg position. They just have to do it.....im sure of it.....you listening Yamaha?????
  15. Charlie??, Charlie who???......:rasberry:
  16. Whatever you do..stay away from the Metzler 880's..............
  17. Its almost finished. Just got a few odds and ends to put back on and ill be firing (frying?) it up tomorrow AM.
  18. Looks good there Gig....I had a new 1978 750 SS back then. It was a blast. Wife had a 77 550 too.
  19. Try running 45 up front and 48 in the rear then see what happens. Also, the ocillation that you feel may be the fork bearings slightly loose, but the tire pressure can cause the wobblies too. If you adjust the front fork air pressure make sure you use a hand pump. A compressor can blow out the seals. I run 5 lbs up front and 45 in the rear. One more thing.......do a real good tire check on the rear tire of those Metzlers...they are prone to crack and lose chunks of rubber. It has happened to many of us.
  20. Oil dropped to 91.00 a barrel.....seems that any reduction in price takes almost a week before it hits the pump because the cheaper gas still has not made it to the area, however, several chains here have raised there price at least 50 cents even before this storm made landfall. Double standard working here if you ask me......
  21. Heck, Eck didnt even send me the 3 bucks, much less 3 grand....He will be lucky if he gets a bare frame at this point!!
  22. Since these batteries are used in other higher output bikes, im pretty sure that it will be safe.
  23. I misquote when I said "move the whole thing". What I should have said was since the wiring is longer, you can route the harness through the stock location. Once you reach the area where the plugs meet underneath, you have enough wire to run it through and up to the area behind the frame where the battery sits. Plenty of room to solder the wires there and it can be tied out of the way on the frame on the left side of the bike. Ill do a blow by blow description once im finished.
  24. Got the bike torn down right now. What a PIA tracing those wires. Got the covers off too. I need to pick me up some heat shrink tubing as well as a heat gun and a mini-torch (sorry margaret...LOL) to heat up those stupid phillips head bolts that Yamaha installed with loctite. Ill be replacing those with either an allen head or hex head bolts. Yep, im taking pics as I go along too for future reference. Got 16 pics so far. The stator has a longer wiring harness so the whole wiring can be re-routed to make soldering the connections easier. More later........ :mo money::mo money:
  25. Both look really nice, Cliff.
