I just upgraded my headlight with the Silverstar light. It throws out 35% more light than stock. I dont remember if it was an h3 or h4 although on my 99 im pretty sure it was an h3. Just take yours out and match it up.

Love this site, 3 changes to bike over wknd, all worked!
1BigDog replied to FutureVentures's topic in Watering Hole
Next time you change that rear tire try using a floor jack under the wheel, coming in from the right side. raise it just a touch to get the pressure off the axle and then you can walk it out and lower it without killing yourself. Same thing for installation. Sure beats hoisting it up there. -
How about Muttley?? (kinda after Squidley, since he will be gone soon) Good for you two to go after that dog. All of my dogs over our 30 year marriage have come from rescues. Some were great and some were banana :banana:pies but they all found a home here.

I seriously doubt that your 2006 would need a thermostat change and if it did, its covered under warranty. Its a real bear to get to the thermostat housing without removing many parts, including the radiator. Its tucked way up under the neck and it is a real pain to remove and get back innto place. -
I hear he already has a 1st gen there......A one hump camel (blonde) with pink streamers.

Auestion for the Truck Drivers Out There (about passing)
1BigDog replied to LilBeaver's topic in Watering Hole
Now thats a good question. Old time truckers, not the hotshots that are out there today would flash their lights once to indicate their intention to pass and the truck they want to pass would blink their body lights to indicate that its ok for them to pass. Kinda like making eye contact if you know what I mean. Unless the truck you are trying to pass has a turn signal on then I would say that its ok to pass. Experience behind the wheel also comes into play on the truck drivers part. The truck, as well as the bike need to evaluate the situation before making a move. All that being said, I have seen a great deterioration of common courtesy among the truckers lately, which prompted my hot shot comment. Many are in such a rush that they speed through congested areas and change lanes without signalling. Since I have 35 years behind the wheel I guess I fit into the old timers (read that old fart) category. And yes, in answer to your question, a quick flash would be welcome. Thats one of the reasons why im not a big fan of headlight modulators. But thats another thread...LOL -
Gkad to see your doing ok there. Can you receive perishables there from the US?

Fan - 2003 Yamaha Royal Star Venture
1BigDog replied to VentureT's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
My fan only comes on when im usually stuck in traffic when the temps are up there in the 90's or more. Last year it was coming on all the time. This winter I replaced the thermostat and sensor along with some hoses and all is fine now. -
Uneven throttle response?
1BigDog replied to BJB's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Remember that 5th gear is an overdrive and the V-4 engine does like to rev. But it also sounds like you may need to sync your carbs. I would fill up the tank and toss in a half can of Sea Foam carb cleaner and run it on the highway for 100 miles or so. See if it clears it up. You would be surprised at how much improvement is made by just a simple carb sync. -
I added the Baron risers and it made a world of difference for me. It took a bit of finagling with the cables but I got it to work. The risers do hit the ignition cover but its not an issue. I also did a mod to the rubber dampeners which place them back in the stock position.

Auestion for the Truck Drivers Out There (about passing)
1BigDog replied to LilBeaver's topic in Watering Hole
In a perfect world I would prefer that a bike pass me on my left with enough clearance for both of us, signalling his intentions. When he passes I hope he uses good judgement by signalling his intentions and and re-enters the lane with adequate clearance, at least a truck length ahead of me so if he has to make a sudden stop I can make sure I dont run over him. My truck weighs upwards of 50,000 lbs and it can take some to get stopped. ABS brakes all around sure do help but stopping that much mass can be fun sometimes. And dont ride in my blind spot. If you cant see me in my mirrors I cant see you either. You would be amazed at how many bikes and cars ride there. Common sense prevails here. -
You would be amazed at how many bikes try and toy with my 18 wheeler in the course of a day. (I wont even mention the cars that do too) Most of the touring/cruiser bikes usually give me a wide berth, however mostly crotch rockets and DP bikes are the worst culprits. Last week I saw two DP BMW's coming up fast on my blind side (right side). As they passed me I let off of the gas a bit anticipating a move by them, however, using no turn or hand signals they both crossed in front of my truck within inches of my bumper. They then shot across another lane then zoomed off into rush hour traffic. Had I not been aware of their presence and had not backed off a bit I fear one of them may have ended up under my truck. Crotch rocket riders are a bit worse, only they do it at higher speeds. I have at least two incidents a week concerning bikes, cars almost daily. You would think they know better......

Gotcha covered Curtis. Hope the results are negative and all is well.
