Question on seats for the RSV
1BigDog replied to WIKD's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Hey WIKD, have you checked out Hartco seats yet? They have a plant over there in Crescent City Fl. I have one on my 99 and I love it. The original owner had a new front seat done with a back rest and had the factory reare seat recovered to match. Just an option.....- 7 replies

Sorry I didnt take any pictures. I finally got the rims cleaned up tonight and the new Avons (Avons good for you ECK?? LOL) will be mounted tomorrow. Im not sure why they built up the way they did but it happened. And it was an even distribution, mostly along the outer edges of the wheels. Ill send Ride-On an email or call them when I get the chance. Like I said, the product works well. Maybe the Florida heat had an effect on it. I rode it when the temps were pushing 100 and im sure those tires were real hot. Maybe it was a result of leaving it in the rims for several tire changes. I dont know. But I am adding more (1 bottle per wheel, as per mfg specs) and ill check it out next time I replace these new tires.

I have a 65" Toshiba 1080 DLP rear projection tv and I couldnt be happier. Consumer Reports gave my particular model high marks too so I went with it over a plasma, which would have cost almost double for the same size. I paid 2k on sale here. But if your bent on a plasma, dont overlook the Visio line of tv's. They also get good marks from CR. A relative has one and it looks pretty good to me.

I have been using Ride-On for several years now and have been happy with the product. Now I have some doubts. Last year when I changed my tires the shop had complained at how bad the Ride-On had gunked up the rims inside and he had a heck of a time trying to clean up the area. This time I had the shop pull the tires off and I brought the rims home to clean up myself prior to having the new tires installed. I couldnt believe the mess that was in there. Most of the Ride-on was caked on and thick. I had to use Goo Gone and a razor to scrape away the mess. Then used a wire detail brush and 150 grit sandpaper to finish off the inside of the rims. Most of the sealer was built up around the area that the tire seats to the rim (bead area). It worked its way up between the bead and the rim too. Some have said that it just wipes away.....not in this case. I spent several hours cleaning those rims and I still have a bit more to go on the front rim. This is not a condemnation of the product as it works well, but rather a warning to those who use it that when you change tires, clean up the mess inside at each tire change, not wait until several changes to do so. It just might save you some valuable riding time.

Worried about oil leak - New '07
1BigDog replied to Twenty7Delta's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Andrew, My 99 sweats some oil from time to time. I just pulled those air boxes from under the tank (the ones on top of the carbs) and cleaned them out. But like others have said, use only 3.5 ots of oil, not the 3.9 the manual recommends. I remember reading somewhere that because of the steep lean of bike while on the kickstand, the oil will tend to accumulate in that air box on the left rear and leak some, especially when idling. Since I went to 3.5 ots it hasnt leaked. Maybe thats your problem, or maybe its a real leak. If it is a real leak then that bike is under warranty and it needs to be fixed for free. -
I installed the Barnett clutch set up along with their carbon fiber discs about 3 years ago and 26k ago. It works fine for me. One thing if you decide to go with the Barnett unit: make sure you replace those pressure plate bolts with new ones. DO NOT re-use the old bolts as they WILL snap! I used allen head bolts on mine. The cost for the Barnett kit with PP and discs was about 210.00 back then.

Terrible, terrible stuff. My prayers go out to the family. May you all find some peace through all of this.

I hit 100 in 4th gear. I also hit 125 (speedo) once when I dusted a Screaming Eagle Ultra on I-10. Never had it to full capacity but I heard it tops out with the rev limiter at 137. Now, maybe that 1st gen can pass but he sure better have his bolts safety wired......:stirthepot:

I just ordered the mud flaps from Timberwolf and they also require holes in the fender to mount. My RSV has the oversized chrome "mudflap" on the rear of the front fender which is held on with double sided tape. I also plan on removing this peice, installing the flap with flat head screws then re-attatching the chrome piece, just like Eck. I need to put a square hole in the rear flap to clear the hitch.

Im not sure what i'll be doing yet for Biketoberfest. Ill have to get the bike finished first and right now I still cant do anything heavy. Im going to try and get it apart next weekend but ill just have to see how I feel. Some things I just cant do alone right now so im just letting it sit. I just got back from an overnight trip to Daytona where Jean and I rented a room on the ocean. Man, those waves sure looked cool in the moonlight with that Nor'easter blowing. Now some of you old timers remember the Sly Fox Inn where we met up for a few years. Jrichard, Ztog, etc. I knew they closed up last year so we drove around Daytona looking for another spot and I found one on US1 near the old restaurant. A place called Webber's. I had some real good prime rib there. It meets all of our criteria for a get together. Laid back, no rush atmosphere, decent parking, great food selection and good prices. Kinda reminds me of the Sly Fox. There are even a few benches outside for a BS session afterwards...lol.

Since they manufacture the shield right there on site im sure you could send specs for vent placement other than stock location. Believe me, that vent is well worth it.

Hmmm, Gene.....that nice Clearview shield rakes/leans backward into the dash. Have you checked your clearances for the pouches?

Ive been driving various trucks/tractor trailers for 32 years. Straight jobs, Single axles, doubles, haz mat, etc. From Teamster companies to the US Postal Service, where I have been employed for 20 years. Drove in all types of weather too, from snowstorms to hurricanes, to ice. Now im just looking to the day that I can retire.

Wish you well on the interview, Clay. But if you need a character reference you might want to NOT consider Muffinman....even though they may have his pic on display..:stirthepot::rotf:

I would just love to make U-turns like that but one thing that scares me is dropping the bike and doing a couple grand worth of plastic damage, if you know what I mean. Sometimes my u-turns are flawless, other times it looks like I just got my learners permit. Ill be installing my 130 tire soon and that should help. And I will be ordering Palladinos DVD soon, unless one of you all want to sell yours.

Ive been driving tractor trailers for about 31 years now. When I hauled freight for Preston Trucking co in the late 70's and early mid 80's I ran city but sometimes it required trips into PA. I also ran part time for Mclean out of Newburgh NY. I ran mostly into Ohio and New England. I preferred going east, which sometimes took me on 209 pa, the Ho Chi Min trail. Other times I went over the "top" by Scranton and down to I-80. Sometimes we went to bed in Clarion PA and drove across Nittany mountain in the wee hours. At 2 am, when the road is nice and frosty and foggy it sure made for an interesting trip, especially with doubles. In 1987 I left Preston and took a job as a driver for the Post Office in Flushing NY and never looked back. 6 months later I transferred to Mid Island postal facility in Farmingdale NY where I stayed till 1990 when I transferred again to Jacksonville FL. The majority of my driving keeps me local now, with the occasional out of town trip into Ga. Nothing fancy. However, a good portion of my travelling was when I became an elected union official. I held my position for about 10 years and travelled almost all over the country to seminars, training, conventions, etc. Lets see...Boston, Philly, Myrtle Beach (yes, we had an oceanfront room too), Mobile AL, Anaheim, Las Vegas, Minneapolis, Cincy, Whiticha Kansas, where we spent 7 days holed up in arbitration classes. Plus almost all over florida for local seminars. Some places I rode the bike too and made mini vacations, like Ft Walton Beach, West Palm Beach and Melborne. Finally decided that 10 years was enough and now im just a regular postal slob again. We plan on many bike trips in the coming years as my health improves now.

dome lights for luggage
1BigDog replied to Howie257's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I got the sylvania stick on light in mine too and it works great. You can get them in assorted colors, even black to match the trunk insides. Only thing I suggest is to mount it where your helmet or anything else in the trunk wont contact it when the lid is closed. I would also use extra double sided tape as the one supplied didnt seem to want to stick.
