  11. We have finally decided to go with concrete pavers over installing a wood deck again. Since this is going to be our retirement home too we wanted something that will outlast us. I mean, can you really see a bunch of old VentureRiders coming out again in another 15 years to replace the new deck?? Every one of them on trikes and having handicapped placards on the windshield?? :rotf:We are having the pavers professionally installed which includes a 5 year warranty. Now, on to the mushy stuff: To those who volunteered their time and energy to come down to Florida from out of state as well as the Florida members who also volunteered to help, I am truly touched by the gesture. You all know who you are. And im sure we would have had a great time putting up the deck. AND drinking beer...and eating food.....etc....Just the thought that you all would help with this project means so much to me. Sooooo, once this is all finished and the hot tub and sod is installed, I plan on having a Meet & Eat here at the house this spring.
  12. Hmmmm, so like no one knows I guess........
  13. Wish I had read this earlier...I coulda dressed up as a kid and sat in your lap.........
  14. Thats the thread that gave me the idea, but I was trying to find out which bulb was the proper one for the stock yamaha passing lamps without taking it apart. I want to order them and have them on hand when I do pull it apart.
  15. Man, your killing me.....:rotf::rotf:
  16. Im going to order new passing light bulbs since im going to rewire the passing lights soon. I was also thinking about going to a led bulb. Since I am not disassembling it right now, I need to know what bulb size (type) is in there now so I can have it on hand. Thanks........
  17. I transferred 17 years ago from NYC to Florida and man, it was an experience. One piece of advice I can give you is to make sure that you have put enough money away to make this move as painless as possible. I was fortunate to already have a good paying job and was able to transfer here. However, any excess money we had went real quick. We were living paycheck to paycheck for almost a year before I was able to recover. I also feel your pain with getting rid of old stuff. I just went ahead when we were sure we were moving and decided which stuff was really needed and which stuff was just sentimental stuff (not to be confused with family heirlooms) that we really no longer needed and we got rid of it. Its a big emotional thing to leave your "roots" so to speak and move elsewhere. Make sure its something you can live with. I had the shakes for about a year after moving here but it was something we really wanted for years. Good luck on your search.............
  18. Mini scares me too.............
  19. Merry Christmas to you too Lowell. Hope you have a great 2008 riding season. Maybe you will pop up in Florida sometime!
  20. Got my bells today. Real nice design and good weight too. Thanks Don.
  21. As I was dismantling my old deck and saw just how much rot there really was under there I said to myself..."self, do you really want to do this again"? A neighbor started a company last year which installs pavers so I am waiting on an estimate from him. If the price is reasonable I might just go ahead and have him do it. If its too cost prohibitive, then ill go ahead with the deck as planned. Ill keep you all informed real soon, well in advance of the date to minimize any disruption in your schedules. One of my main concerns was the lime rock paths I have in my yard. My wife wants to get rid of it and go back to grass and the paver dude uses lime rock as a base, so all he has to do is to drag it off the pathways and into the area to be pavered (is that a word?), killing two birds with one stone (paver?). LOL :mo money:
  22. Hmmmmmmm.......
  23. Sheesh....all this talk makes me want to break out in a chorus of Kumbaya.......oh heck, now I cant get it out of my head....
  24. Thanks Ken...ill see what shakes out as we get closer. I saw the bike tonight in the parking lot....looks good, even from a distance.....
  25. David, no inspections are needed here unless its a raised deck. I dont plan on footings other than sinking 4x4 posts 2' deep and attaching the boards to them. I will have the old deck removed and the area prepped. I plan on using 14' and 10' 2x6's for the decking, 2' on centers. Hangers for the joists and im cutting up the old wood from the old deck for blocking. I should have a plan made up soon but its pretty straightforward. I built the original deck with one other person helping me 14 years ago and it was extremly sturdy. I plan on doing the new one the same way. Basically we just squared the perimeter, leveled it with the 4x4 posts then filled in the joists and additional posts where needed. Its killing me that there was more damage to the old deck then I had anticipated and its also going to double the cost for me. Me and Jean already started tearing down the old deck. I realize that this has gotton bigger than planned but even if we can bang out just the framing and joists I can always lay the decking by myself later on. I figure we can do what we can do in one day and I can finish the rest another time. Er, Goose.....wanna swap those carribean tickets with me??? LOL
