Electrical problem that stumps me
bikenut replied to bikenut's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I will be looking at all connections and battery terminals and grounds. Way to hot here for the next few days 100 + in Wisconsin is not normal so after the heat I will dig into it again. All you suggestion are great ones. By the way the connection from the stator is hard wired already when I changed the stator I soldered that connection and removed the plug which was burnt a little -
Electrical problem that stumps me

Battery is also new and I had them test it at the store and full charge on it before buying. I have never seen this on any other bike. more rpm should give you more output up to 14.4. I just replaced the new rec with my spare rec just to see and it does the same thing with my Yamaha new rec that was for my bike and does the same thing. Will dig into the ground cables and positive side also to clean the connections and see if that takes care of it. Thanks for some ideas -
Electrical problem that stumps me

OK working on a bike that was not charging at all. Replaced stator and the rec both tested bad. Now the bike which is a 2006 Venture is charging 13.3 and just off idle it will hit 13.5 at 1500 rpm, rev it up it goes down to 13.1 at 3000 rpm or below to 12.9 at 4000 rpm. this one got me pulling my hair out. Forgot to say also the guy said his bike keeps blowing the Rec . Any ideas would greatly help Thanks Guys -
I know a person that is with Star Riding Group and said that they received a letter from Yamaha That there were pulling the Star name bikes back to Yamaha and they are testing a NEW Long distance Cruiser right now. So MAYBE we will see and new venture but I bet it will be water cooled twin 1900 or bigger. Keep your fingers crossed one might be on the way

Voltage regulator
bikenut replied to jemcook2002's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
The Regulator is under the radiator in front on the right side when sitting on it. You will have to remove both front lower fairings to get at it. I think 2 10mm bolts hold it to the frame and then just unplug it to test.Hope this helps -
Excessive Shifter Play
bikenut replied to Du-Rron's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
My shift lever became very lose and what I found was the rear shift ball stud behind the exhaust pipe had a bolt that came lose behind the rubber boot. Not fun to get at but I put some thread lock on it and it took all my play out of my shifter. That ball joint has a allen bolt that hold it in place. Been working great now -
I hope everyone gets what they want for Christmas this year. I got what I wanted but a little to late to do it much. This year I have a total of 15 miles on my bikes because the Doctor would not let me ride at all, but last month saw the Doctor and he said I could ride again, so on the bike I went for a short ride then got the better half on and went for a short ride again total of 15 miles because it was so cold and rainy but we did not care we were on the bike again . Anyway I will be riding it in Feb in Florida for sure , Can't wait. Looking forward to 2016 riding season. Merry Christmas and a very Happy New year to ALL

I go down to Florida for two week in the winter because I still like to play like Jeff with my toys. Jeff hope you recover soon and get to feel much better. I will by spring just slow. but I will be riding down in Florida for sure. O by teh way they say no snow and hot temps here this year in Wisconsin LOL

Well I took the bike out for the first time this year after my shoulder surgery in April . Everything in my shoulder was very bad and can not be fixed again in the future. Anyway it sure felt great to ride again. My wife said the same thing that is sure was good to be back on the bike. I still only can left 6 lbs from my waste up to 90 degrees with my arm straight out doing 3 set of ten then I start to shack, but getting better for sure. Dr said it will take 1 1/2 to 2 years to get the strength back in my arm but never 100 %. I am working on PT everyday so I can ride. The bike will go to Florida this Feb so then we will ride again, now just wanted to know if we could ride it and take it to Florida. Hope everyone else had a great riding season. We will make up for this missed year next year

Prayers for my wife

Our Prayers and Thoughts are with you both. -
The same type rear dif. the Goldwings runs because of the 5 lug nuts to remove the rear tire ,brakes stay on the bike. With this on the bike it only takes 5 min to change a tire even on the side of the road. Lay bike on side remove 5 lugs rear tire comes right out. All bikes should have this on instead of removing bags ,exhaust ,brakes , axle . That would be nice. I have done allot of newer Goldwings in my shop and it is so fast to do a rear tire. love it. Love the rest of everyone's ideas for sure

08 RSV - fuel pump check out
bikenut replied to BigBear's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Sounds like the points in the fuel pump is shutting off to soon. The pump should keep pumping all the time if you have the line off because it will shut off when pressure is felt by the spring on the points . Something inside of the pump is not work right. You can rebuild it yourself very easy to do . I did mine and works great now -
How can I maximize (optimize) power on '09 RSV
bikenut replied to DblTrbl's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
When I got my Tri-Wing kit for my 1986 trike I asked when ordering it about gears and he said the standard for that bike would be 308 gears in the rear end but I told him I pulled a trailer he said I should get 3.25 geared rear end which they had which brought the rpm up 600 rpm more and I have no problems pulling the trailer up hills and works great. You could change the gears in the ford t-bird rear end on your bike to bring the rpm up a little . Just my 2 cents. Still get great MPG also.Good luck -

Someone wanted a TRIP report on our trip West. Quess who
bikenut replied to bikenut's topic in Watering Hole
The tires I had on were the Michelin commander II but the blow out was not the tire it was the Valve stem blew out of the wheel. Maybe from running 118+ degree temps when we crossed the desert I have no idea. I just put a new one in at my shop when I put both tires on new. Now the front tire has a metal valve stem like the rear tire . If you want to know something to have on a trip is make sure you have a small air compressor along on trips because all I had was the CO2 pump up kit and it did not blow the tire up full with 3 CO2 set off so I have now that small Slime air compressor on my bike made for motorcycles and have some tire plugs so you can make it to a safe place to get a new tire. Wreckers are not cheap to come and get you in the middle of no were. LOL:confused24: I found out the hard way -
Hope everything turns out ok Rick. We send our Prayers your way.

Well here is a trip report of our west trip we did first part of June We did rename this ride THE WHAT COULD HAPPEN DID HAPPEN RIDE What a Ride What could happen did Here is the list of things the happened on this trip. 1. Bills Trigger stopped working so 3 day layover for parts 2. I blew the front tire at 55mph Stayed upright till the end 3. 2 days later I got a rear flat with a nail , 3 days layover for parts. 4. Dennis lost his chaps at some gas stop. did not put back on bike. 5. I lost my rear brakes 3 times in the mountains from overheating. Boiled the fluid. still had front brakes 6. Stator went out on my bike in Mitchell Sd. 2 day layover for parts. 7. My shift linkage fell off 65 miles from home. Fixed in 5 mins . Had to tighten the bolt back up. 8. Bills fan quit working trackedit down to a filter inline to the fan was broke. 9. Bills bike started to leak antifreeze. Just the rubber plugs leaking. quick fix 10. I lost the trailer key set to get into the trailer but Bonnie had some of the keys on her as spares but not the one to remove the trailer from the bike. They were found at the last hotel we were at and they mailed them home for me As for the weather you name it cold ,hail but did not ride in it, wind, snow, rain two days only, Hot 118 in the desert 129 behind the windshield at 75 mph. All we needed was some BBQ sauce because we were cooked well done. But all in all it was a great trip. We all had a great time and kept on smiling all the time. Would I do it again You bet we would. After this ride Bonnie and myself now have road our bike from Wisconsin to all the lower 48 states and all the provinces of Canada that touch the USA except New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. That will be in two years when we go for Lobsters again in Maine. We have also addedtwo more bells to our bike for better and safer riding. We each gave a bell to each other. Our 18 day ride ended up to be 27 days and a cost of $2400.00 more for me with wrecker costs and all the new parts that was added to the bike and labor. I could have done them all in my shop but that was 3000 miles away. Just glad all the shops that helped me were there at time of need. On this trip we road in 16 states , one Canadian Provenance BC and put on 6800 miles , Two tires and one stator LOL Still was a great trip.

After digging more into it I found the the coil pick up or trigger was bad. Parts were ordered and here now , shop is working on it right now to install new trigger in by stator. Thank for all the ideas and help .back on road soon
-
Thank you for the offer but we have one coming. If it not that then it is the trigger which I have never heard going bad that I know of:fingers-crossed-emo

We have run test per the manual on everything and everything is good. Sidestand switch good, clutch and brake switch good, main ign switch good on all wires. Brain box good , we switch his with my spare good one no differance. checked power to coils good, everything is good up to the starter circuit relay that everything go to to work. Local Yamaha have shop had a guy there today doing side work and we stopped in and asked him and he said that after everything we checked it can only Be that relay.we order on will get Tuesday morning. Hope it is it if not the shop here will have to look at it. We jump the main switch no differance. . This is a 2002 venture

Everthing works on the bike but no spark. We think it is a bad starting circuit relay. Everything else check good. We are in Ames ia. It is a 5reinds bike with 130,000 miles on
