  1. I was a Chevy ,GMC man for most of my life and in 2012 I purchased a Ford Lariat crew cab 4X4 with the 3.5 turbo engine 6 speed auto and what a difference. The Chevy and GMC would do this upshifting all the time going up small hills when pulling a trailer and drove my nuts and I had a 1993,1998 ,2000 and a 2008 and that all stopped with the Ford. Great puller and great gas mileage when not pulling down the highway. I have 80,000 on my 2012 Ford truck with no problems except normal wear items and oil changes. MY next truck will be the Ford again with the same setup if they still have it when I am ready to trade. Good luck on your pick
  2. I would add some dye from a auto store with the ultra violet light and you will see it right where it is coming from. I had a leak I could not fined on my 68 Chevelle for a long time and added dye and checked with the light and found it within 5 mins. It was the oil sending unit pipe had a crack in it right at the block Good luck
  3. Hardware stores do sell all types of rubber washer in the specialty trays. I would give that a try
  4. Yammer Dan here are some pictures of my 86 trike I converted[/ATTACH]
  5. My 1986 Venture Royal Trike is in the trailer to head south to Florida Feb 1. Been doing this for 13 years. Cold is coming in next week here in Wisconsin but may hit 50 on Sunday then down hill to mid 20's and below. YAAAAAAAAAA And that bad word SNOW
  6. I been running it for years in both of the bikes with no problem. Sold my 2006 venture and it was all it ran on after breaking it in on stock oil. My 1986 venture runs great on it with no problems' either. Neither of the bikes had oil leaks and still running it in my 86 Yamaha trike. But it is up to you what you want to run Hope this helps
  7. Prayers sent
  8. Praying for you and your brother...
  9. You are correct on only the exhaust valves side the rest is still air cooled
  10. go to this link and it is still listed. Item 16 on the list . call to see if you can get it yet http://www.yamahapartsnation.com/oemparts/a/yam/50042b08f8700209bc78974a/electrical-2 Hope this helps
  11. My first thoughts would be warped rotors. I had it on my 06 venture and it did the same thing front of bike would feel like it was going up and down when brake was applied. The bog like past posted state but also you can shim the needles and look in the library here of how to do it but like stated before check your diaphragms to see if they all are moving at the same time and free not stuck Good luck
  12. I had a motorcycle shop up till 2015. Wife and I love riding motorcycles as much as we can. Also ran two chapters from two different clubs for motorcycle here in Wisconsin from 1986 till 2015 Ride Safe always
  13. Pinwall wants over $30 FOR SHIPPING Which is way to much for a piece of rubber. Just playing the underpriced but make it up in the shipping. I order from them before and was OK but this item may be missed marked or something
  14. That sounds great as long as it has no rips on the side prices. Tell my how much is the shipping and tell me were to send and I will get it out to you asap Thanks again
  15. I am looking for a good used rubber spill cover that will catch the gas if you over fill it. My bike is a 1986 venture but most all should fit. Please let me if someone has a good one they will sell me. Mine has all the side rubber ripped off the base rubber piece so gas would run down onto the motor which is not good if hot. Thanks Bikenut
  16. Just a little trick to get screws out that have locktite on is to heat them up with a torch a little and they come out easier. Good luck on your next repair
  17. The cans of VHT I got from Amazon stated to cure in a oven at 200 for 1 hour and that was all. It is not hard to do and looks like new. I have done it on both sides of the bike and very happy of the turn out. Good luck on yours
  18. You can remove the clear coat with paint remover and polish with a electric drill and buffing wheel and alum polish to look like new then coat with VHT high temp clear . I just did mine on my 86 trike.
  19. I am installing the floorboards, shifter and linkage from a 1999-2013 venture on my 1986 Yamaha trike I built. They bolt right up to the forward lower crash bar mount and had to add a plate to bolt the rear too the rear lower crash bar mount. Linkage had to be reversed but that was just to move one arm from bottom to top . I made the linkage to suit. I also had to make the crash bars into shorty crash bars but I really did not need them on my trike. Still needed them for lower chin plastic to attach to. Shifter works great and feels just like my 2006 venture. Seat and feet position are almost the same as the 2006. I got to use to the forward controls on my 2006 venture and did not feel right with my feet back under me. I am working on the brake side and almost got that done also. That side was a little more to do to clear the clutch housing on the motor but I mad a step over linkage to clear that but need more parts. Will show picture after I get it done. The reason I am doing this is because I will be selling my 2006 Venture in spring because I am getting too tipsy with the two of us on it but we both still want to ride a lot more. Just something to do waiting for spring to come LOL
  20. There is a Fan thermostat just below the radiator cap . See page 5-4 in the service manual. two wires run to it , could try to jump the wire and see if fan will run. On my 86 venture the fan thermostat quit working and i had to replace it and everything worked good. On my 06 still working good Just my 2 cents Later It looks like you have to remove your gas tank to see it
  21. OK I got the thing fixed. 14.0 at idle and stays there all the way thru the rpm range. l found two grounds bad corrosion one on frame by steering head and the Battery neg end was all white so I cleaned both up and soldered the neg end on the battery cable. Then I stated to think about the ignition switch. So I took that out , was not hard someone else did it before and just used bolts not the break off one again . Took the switch apart and full of corrosion , The guy did not want to replace it so I cleaned it up very good put some Dielectric grease on all the pins and on the black board also. Put it back together and hooked everything up again ,started the bike and the meter went right up to 14.0 and 14.1 pops up here and there. Just wanted to let everyone know we got it and Thanks for all the suggestion. That helped getting more minds thinking about this problem
  22. I did check all the parts I installed before installing them. Stator check good and very good output running,Reg/ref test per the service manual pasted. still have to check output of the rec/ref at it. So far found one ground that had some corrosion so I cleaned that up ,still looking for the rest. next will take fairing apart to check the grounds up there also.
  23. Ok today I will get the bike back on the lift. Just wondering where all gounds are on the bike. I know the one by the horn. In the fairing but just wondering were the ground goes for the Reg/rec go to??? . Any other to check??? Thanks for the help
  24. I will be looking at all connections and battery terminals and grounds. Way to hot here for the next few days 100 + in Wisconsin is not normal so after the heat I will dig into it again. All you suggestion are great ones. By the way the connection from the stator is hard wired already when I changed the stator I soldered that connection and removed the plug which was burnt a little
