On MY 86 yamaha venture when I triked it with Tri-Wings kit 3 years ago I went with the 3.24 gear in the 7 1/2 ford rear end they use. The sock gearing 3 years ago from them was 3.08 but I told them I pull a trailer almost all the time and they said to go with the 3.24. Mine works great and gas mileage with the trailer is betweem 35 and 38 all the time. I love mine as a trike but use it very little now because it is for the future when I can not ride two wheels. I am running a 06 Venture right now. I have about 10,000 miles on the trike in three years. Hope this helps Bikenut:thumbsup:

Cam Chain Adjustment
bikenut replied to dmoff1698's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
My 2006 has allot of top end noise and my dealer is going to remove the Cam chain tensioners and inspect them to make sure they are locking up and not broken. The tensioner will move out to move the tensioner bar but it it to lock once it moves far enough and will keep moving and locking until you have to replace the chain. What could have happend just like my bike is the tensioner will not lock anymore and the tensioner bar can move in and out but still just have spring tension on it. This will make a noisy top end. My dealer said it is not common but has happened in the past on other bikes. Once I get mine back I willlet you all know hwat was found. -
Problem with a 2007 Venture
bikenut replied to bikenut's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Well I got the call from my freind today. BuddyRich hit it right off. Yep it is the clutch. Completly gone. The dealer said he has never seen a clutch that bad.they will replace everything in side and add a Barnet plate and springs just to make it better. By the way my freind has all the work and the oil changes done at the local yamaha shop because he has a maintinace plan with them when he purchased the bike, so It was not because of the wrong oil or old oil. The dealer said it was NOT under warrenty but I told my freind to call Yamaha direct and see if they will do something. Maybe they will but maybe not. The bike is only 14 months old and has 28000 miles on it. My friend take very good care of his bike all the time so he still wonders why the clutch went out that fast and without warning. Noi Slipping or nothing. Just out of the blue the bike stopped moving. So that is the store on this one. -
Has anyone had a problem with the 2007 venture that all of a sudden the bike will not move. A freind of mine has a 2007 venture and was 250 miles from home and he stated that when in a town the clutch stated to slip and within 50 feet the bike would not move anymore. He said it was without warning. Has anyone else ever heard this happing. I think his clutch spring gave out but he has not found out from the dealer yet. He also said he pushed the bike on the trailer in gear without nowing it. Yes the clutch was out not pulled in. So any ideas. Lets see how good we are guessing want happened. When I find out from him I will post the results.

Ok I just pulled my spark plugs out of my 2006 Venture and they are almost white in color. Very little gray and just a very little hint of brown spots on the procelin. My bike is already up one jet size with a dyna 3000 set on setting 4, K&N air filters, Mod air box, AIS pluged, mod stage 3 RK pipes. I called my dealer and talked to the service man which I know realy good and he said I should go up one more jet size . This setting I am running is what I had in my 1999 venture and the plugs were a light coffee colored like they should be. The dealer stated that Yamaha had to lean the bikes out in 2006 to get with the EPA requirments. What else would couse my bike to go so lean? Bikenut:sick:

Rubbing Sound Heard on Rt. Rear
bikenut replied to a topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
It also could be the fingers inside of the rear wheel making this noise. All that has to be done is take the wheel off take off one big snap ring and remove the fingers . Give them a good cleaning and use some 2000 git sand paper on them just to clean them up real good then put some grease on them and reinstall everything. If it was that making the noise it should be gone after you do this . I just did mine on my 06 Venture today when I changed the tire. This should be done at every tire change and it should not come back if you do it at every tire change. Later Bikenut:080402gudl_prv: -

Another one for the experts here.....
bikenut replied to BoomerCPO's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I agree with Redneck TAKE IT TO THE DEALER. It is under warranty so let them find the problem I work on my 06 all the time but when I can not get it fixed right away I take it back and let them find out what is wrong. Best of luck Bikenut:080402gudl_prv: -
I have to disagree with you on this I have a 1986 Yamaha venture Trike & a 2006 Yamaha venture and I love them both. when riding them both I have the same feeling on both. So I don't know how you can state that we are not biking. Have you ever given it a try. Try one and see what you will say after you take one out. Also as for saftey anything can be unsafe and the reason is who is operating it is the unsafe part. Just my thoughts. Don't get mad at me. Ride safe no matter what you ride. Bikenut:stirthepot: Also

Looking for a Part for a 86 and up
bikenut replied to bikenut's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Just let me say the motor was at a idea when this happened. I was moving only 10 mph and I hit the shifter and it went into first without the clutch in so being a trike both tires on blacktop almost stopped the bike with the motor and the driveshaft snaped. Called TRi-wing today and he will send me a new adaptor for the bike driveshaft to the rear end with some mods done to it to make it better. They are working with me and it was not a problem on their end but just me. I think that is great they are doing this for me. Just have to take all the parts when I get them to my driveshaft shop to weld it and balance it up and I am back on the road. Thanks Again for all the help guys Later Bikenut -

Hi I am looking for a drive shaft for a 1986 and newer Venture Royal. Today I broke mine on my trike. Don't ask just that I did something I shouldn't of. All I need is the drive shaft. All I can stay is that it made so much noise when it broke and by the time I got it stopped I thought the hole bike was gone. Thank god I was only going slow .But nothing else happened to it so if you know were I can get a new or used more then likely used driveshaft please let me know. Now I have one more thing to fix. I will take the one I have into a driveshaft shope and see what they will say and if it can be fixed. Thanks Guys Bikenut:sick::crying:

Hi bongobobny That only true Trike kit that I know of is the Tri-Wing Kit from Canada. I did My 86 three years ago over a winter and love the kit. I did allot of research and did not find any other kits at that time. If you have any questions about the kit please let me know and I hope I can help you out. Bikenut Wisconsin

Hi Stracat The clicking sound is in the rear wheel like Gene-b stated before. It is the fingers on the center of the rear wheel that ride in gromets and connect your wheel and tire to your drive shaft. All that has to be done is remove the rear tire ,then remove a large snap ring, pull the fingers out of th gromet which might be hard to do but it does come out and clean with steel wool and grease them up good and reinstall. This should be done at each tire change also. If not you will start to hear th clicking sound again. Hope this helped Bikenut:080402gudl_prv:

Hi Jbell First off you do not bend the floats to adjust them, There is a screw on each carb to set the float level and to do this you use a clear hose hooked to the carb and then with the bike running you adjust the floats to a given level as stated in the manual. It is hard to tell you how to do it but all the info is in the service manual with step by step instructions. It sounds like it is a float problem so please find a manual to get the right info out of and then reset yur carbs the right way. I think this will take care of your problem. Hope this helps you. Hi Larry That is one sweet looking ride now. You did a great job on the trike conversion and now you have the pride to say you did it yourself. Great Job. I am glad I could help you out with some of your questions. Ride safe Bikenut

Engine turning over too slow to start?
bikenut replied to woz111's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Hi All You could have some shorting going on with the armature of the starter. The grooves on the armature can get pluged up with the Brush compond and cause it to turn over very slow and will act like a dead short. My 86 Venture did that to me so I removed the starter took it apart cleaned the Slots on the Armature out with a small knife, Took some emery cloth and lightly sanded the armature down to remove all burs from the knife. NOT ANY MORE THEN THAT.It has been go ever since I put it back on the bike. That was like 12 years ago. Good Luck and hope you get it fixed without to much money. -
Mother That is very cool. Neat Idea. You have to post more pictures of it so we can get a better look at that so cool machine you have. Very nice job Later Bikenut:thumbsup::thumbsup:
