My 86 Did the same thing on me but after I tightened the head bearings and replaced the bad worn front tire mine was fine. Check to see if your front tire is wore bad and un even. That will be one thing wrong. But most of all the front head bearing have to be set per the manual to stop this. Guest my thoughts . Welcome and hope you fine a fix.

HOW DO I CHANGE MY OIL? Tour Deluxe
bikenut replied to blamarche's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
FLB n78 I have to agree with you 100% it is CHEAP AND ONLY TAKE ME ABOUT 5 MIN'S TO DO THE JOB. Better safe then sorry. Think what the gear lube would like at 16000 miles when we do it every 4000. It would be like tar. Just my opinion. Have a great day everyone I am leaving on my trip today from Wis down to Blue Ridge , to Florida,to Mississippi and back up along the Mississippi river in 9 days. Have a good one until we get back:Venture: -
HOW DO I CHANGE MY OIL? Tour Deluxe
bikenut replied to blamarche's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I just wonder how many of the dealers check all them at every oil change. The best one is the final drive gear lube is to be changed every 16000 miles. I change mine every oil change and that stuff is black every time I drain it. You can get almost 4 oil changes out of a quart so I change it all the time. Just me. I do not like dirty oil in anything. Go out and ride and have a fun day. Later:thumbsup2: -

Here is a service manual free for the Venture but both are same to change the oil. Hope this helps http://labs.trunkful.com/vrmanuals/index.cfm Section 3 page 23 for the oil change info need to change it. And yes I was talking about the fill plug. Thanks for pointing that out for him. Just hard to type what you do all the time with the right words. Have a great day everyone and get out and ride. -
HOW DO I CHANGE MY OIL? Tour Deluxe
bikenut replied to blamarche's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Oil changes are very easy to do. Do what Sylvester stated . The drain plug is a 17 MM and the filter is under the middle of the radiator tucked up so you will have to look up for it. Drain all oil until just dripping. To fill Install new fillter hand tight then 1/4 turn more,Remove the screw in plug on the right side of the motor in the clutch case. Fill with any MOTORCYCLE OIL and you should only use MOTORCYCLE OIL with about 3 1/4 qts. Start the bike up with the screw in plug put back in and let run for a min. or two. Shut down wait three min and see were the oil is in your site glass right side of the motor low towards the front under water pump cover WHEN THE BIKE IS STRAIGHT UP AND DOWN.I use a mirrow to see the site glass This should be between the 1/2 way full to 3/4 full no more or oil will come out you vent tube from the air cleaners. If not high enough add a little more oil until you see it in this area of the site glass. THat is all you have to do -
Ya bet it is the cluch basket. When you go down the road and you hear this noise let off gas and pull in the clutch and see if it goes away. If so it is the basket making the noise.:puzzled:

Some new thoughts on clutch basket whine
bikenut replied to straycatt's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Straycatt The taper shaft and a keyway on the crankshaft is for the stator side of the motor for the flywheel attachment. I am not 100 % sure of the gear but I have never seen a parts break down that shows the gear for replacement . This usally means it is part of something else and comes as a whole unit. Hope this helps:think: -
Has anyone installed one of these ? http://store.bazooka.com/Assets/ProductImages/382.jpg MC-YAM-AMK - Yamaha Venture 99-07 4 Channel Motorcycle Amp Kit Model #: MC-YAM-AMK Already upgraded your speakers, but still not enough? The NEW Bazooka motorcycle amp kit includes our FAST-YAM Plug and Play interface cable with OEM connectors that plug directly into the factory Yamaha harness, and our 4 channel 200W amplifier. This allows for seamless integration of the amplifier into the Yamaha system and maintains full use of all factory handle bar controls. The MC-YAM-AMK motorcycle audio kit works on all Venture bikes. Includes auxiliary output plug for an optional amplified BTA6100 Bazooka Bass Tube subwoofer that can be installed into the trunk. (BTA6100 and FAST-HON-SIK subwoofer installation kit sold separately) This Amp Kit is 2 Ohm stable and works with any brand of speakers whether 2 ohm or 4 Ohm. If someone did how bad was the install and how did you like it after. Looking for some better tunes and sound. I have the polk speakers front now but would like more.

Some new thoughts on clutch basket whine
bikenut replied to straycatt's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
If you make it to tight then your will get the chirp instead of the whine. You can not replace both gears unless you replace the crankshaft also. The other gear is part of the crankshaft. WIshed it was not because I think you are right that if you had a matched set then there would be no problems. Just my 2 cents that is only maybe worth 1 cent now -
Some new thoughts on clutch basket whine
bikenut replied to straycatt's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Remember also if you have your intercom on you will here the whine much more then with out it on. I run all the time with mine on but if I turn it way down the whine is much better. That mic sure can pick that noise up very easy. Just my two cent again. I like a lot of the ideas floating around here. Best of luck:bang head: -
Some new thoughts on clutch basket whine
bikenut replied to straycatt's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
My 06 did the same thing after the "I" basket. Was no sound at all but then it came back. A little better but still came back. I think it also is related to the heating and cooling of the engine. When it does this over and over it is tempering the inner gear over and over and that gear is getting harder and harder, which in turn make the gears sing. When new they are softer and as time goes on they get harder. Someone will find a way to fix this and then we all can ride our bike in peace and just listen to the pipes. That would be nice. Best of luck -

Rear shock leaking
bikenut replied to terrysears's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
You can add all the oil you want but it will just run out, and like what FIB_78 stated it is welded shut. You will never get it apart in one piece:confused24: -
Rear shock leaking
bikenut replied to terrysears's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
You would have to come up with the right seals first to try and fix the shock. That is what goes out is the seals. I am on my 3rd shock on my 2006 Venture all 3 leaked the oil out. My ride only had 35000 miles on it . Not good but if happens in the future and if off warranty I would get the Works shock also. The yamaha parts just does not last. Just my 2 cent:thumbsup2: -
Like what Mike said above . You have to have the plastic reducers put in line for each meter and then all bounce will go away. This reducer tube came with the unit.I can not remember if it was one piece and you have to cut it into four pieces or not can not remember. That's what happens when you get this old.LOL Just cut the main line like Mike stated and insert inline . Hope this helps

Please keep the pictures coming. Looks great. Show us all how the kit is made in the pictures. I did my 86 about 4 years ago and love riding it. Just put it away and took out the 06 Venture for the rest of the summer. Back on 2 wheels but had a great time all spring on 3 wheels.

Whine, or Howl?
bikenut replied to nbowersock's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
If you have a howl it could be the complete rear end dif. SOme go bad and they send out a howl. the seals and bearing go bad . If you pull in the clutch and the sound is still there it is the rear end. If it goes a way then it would be the basket. Hope this helps. Also I had my 06 venture basket replaced two times with "I" baskets because the first "I" basket made it worse and when I first got it back it had no sound at all but now it is coming back just a little as time goes on.The parts is bad QC on Yamaha parts. -
When I built My TRi-Wing Kit I add a tank were the rear tire was and up and out . It looked like a "T" I used a boat filler that screws in tight and came thru the body next to the seat. Works great . I just split the main fuel line before the fuel pump added two shut off switches one for the bike tank and one for the added tank. My tank I built holds 4.7 gals. Most people have to stop before you hit the 200 mile mark anyway but some like to push it all the way. Most of the people I ride with call my the tanker now. I was thinking of adding a transfer hose with its own pump to refuel on the go. AH maybe not a good idea LOL Have a great ride
