K. Tnx Jeff. Will put it on b4 I leave for IR. Wax B4 application. Can't think of any reason to peel it off unless it discolors or something.

A note of caution re riding gear... DoD (Dept of Defense) has regs regarding Motorcycles. These regs apply 24/7 worldwide on base or off, and supercede local laws. If you are on active duty or connected to the Armed Forces and will utilize Government Medical Insurance (Tricare) in the event of a mishap.. Not only do the regs address licensing and required MSF training, but proper riding safety gear as well. So to simplify: If you have an accident and do not have the required license/training or are not wearing the proper safety gear, your Government Medical Insurance may not cover your medical bills as you are in violation of the regs... This also applies to Military retirees who use Tricare, though their accidents are not investigated to the same degree as Active Duty members. Soooo, can I afford what could be medical bills in the 6 digits or more coming out of my pocket?? Me thinks not..?? I will dress for the 'Slide', keep my M/C endorsement and MSF training current and know that Tricare will have no reason to deny my benefits if ever required.

Ok Jeff, I'm confused... U and the 3M videos both refer to 'Peeling' it off... Is that part of the process, or just if U decide U no longer need the protection??

Wellll, A few months ago on a beautiful spring day, four of us Shriners were out on a casual ride through the backroads of Stone County, Mississippi. There were two Harleys (2whl) in front of me and a Goldwing trike behind. We had been enjoying the scenery for an hour or so, cruising along about 45mph, when we came upon the only four way stop within miles, out in the middle of nowhere. We were almost at a stop when all of a sudden ' CRASHBAM ', the Goldwing behind me hadn't seen that we were stopping for the 4way and buried his front wheel into the trunk of my Hannigan. The impact knocked me loose from the handlebars and almost drove me into the two Harleys that were stopped a few feet in front of me, but I was able to regain the grips and steer around them and to the side of the road. No injuries, but a 'totalled' trike for me and fender and fork damage for the Goldwing. No doubt in my mind that if my Bride had been along for the ride that day, it would most likely have snapped her neck as it was a rather violent impact. Anyways, we both have GEICO Insurance and my bike was over to 'The Trikeman' in Mobile Alabama two days later. So far the bill is close to $8k for replacement of the Kit and incidentals. Now, since it was a Honda assaulting a Yamaha, is it considered a 'Hate Crime'? or could it have been the start of trike 'Mating Season'? LoL

Looks like something I should do to my rebuild Hannigan before I put it on the road. Where did you get the 3M Paint Defender kit??

Hannigan Trike Trunk Lock??????????

I'm a 'one key fits all' kinda guy. Any R&D in that area would be greatly 'preciated. -
My humblest apologies to those who responded to my listings in the 'classifieds' forum. I got your PM's, but I'm damned if I can figure out how to find them let alone answer them thru this web site. Try sending your inquiries to my yahoo email address. Tnx, seabeetom

Five questions for the RSV Hannigan Trike types; 1. I got a pretty cheesy pamphlet with my trike that doesn't address anything technical, just everyday generic info. Does Hannigan have an 'Owners Manual for their Trikes? 2. Which wheel is the 'drive' wheel? 3. How do you adjust the rear suspension? 4. Can the Trike be towed at hwy speeds with a front wheel (off the ground) hitch if placed in neutral? 5. Are there any trike specific maintenance items? None are addressed in the pamphlet. Bonus Question: How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood??

Well Dave, I reckon cutting the strap on the helmet would make about as much sense as putting screen doors on submarines. Even this here Dirt Sailor knows that:rotf: Sorry shipmate, couldn't resist

Ok, Tnx Randy, will give it a try. Mike, U serious?? If so I'll go out to the garage and try to inventory everything. Still going to try to post them in the classifieds just to see if I can.

I have all the parts from the conversion of my 2008 RSV to a Hannigan Trike and would put them in the classifieds if I knew how to reduce the pictures in pixel (?) size so that they could be uploaded to that section.. Any help?? Tnx in advance

Won't be making the August dates for Vogel, but will be in Pigeon Forge 5/10-17 to watch the 'Dolly brings her twin's home' parade Friday and ride in the Shriners parade on Saturday. Of course will be riding the "Dragon" again and will give the "Snake' a go of it while we're there. If there is a downside to trike's, it's the workout you get on these rides. Will be spending a couple of weeks at the gym before tackling those twisties..
-
Where did ya get the reverse?? Hannigan?? How much for that?? My Conversion was about $17500. Steerlite, aux fuel tank, floorboards, ISO grips. I'd not convert again unless it was done by Hannigan. Some of the 'Authorized Installers' are questionable..

If I was still two-wheeling, most definitely. Needing three wheels now, I'd do some shopping around.

Rode for over 20 years on the California parking lots AKA freeways. Lane split all the time, but only in stopped or creeping traffic. Back when I was younger and indestructible, a helmet was unheard of until when lane splitting on the 405 a beast of a Doberman jumped across the bed of the pickup on my left and nearly took my face and ear off. Luckily, only got a head full of dog slobber and some brown skivvies out of the incident. Another time a panel van on my right decided to change lanes when I was coming alongside and I lost a mirror and I left handgrip scrapes along his side. Both close calls, but I would continue to lane split under the right conditions. Of course that was on two wheels, not on a trike..

Don't blame ya a bit Jay. Progressive wants 3 times what I pay Geico for the same coverage. And I sure as #@^^ don't care for the politics their big guy supports... Gulf Coast states are great for retirement. Low cost of living, no white stuff other than sand, seafood forever, deep fried the norm. Ok, we get a little wind every once in a while..

Anyone with a Hannigan RSV trike have a rear bumper installed? Am pondering the idea of mounting one on my 08/2011. It would have to be frame mounted vice body mounted, I would think that a body mounted one would crack the fiberglass if any impact. Any sources/pix/suggestions would be appreciated. Tnx in advance.
-
Ok, so I jacks it from the pumpkin and only the left wheel comes off the ground. So's I jacks it from the hitch at the support points and only the right wheel comes off the ground. Oh well, good thing I got a pair of jacks to start the bidding..
-
Tnx 4 the quick response Larry. I'll wait for your mod so I won't have to remove the running board hardware.
-
A question Larry, The pix for the trike lift show no running boards. I have the running boards on mine. Will it still work? If so, I'll take one. Guess I'll have to put the 2 wheeler stand I got from U on the auction block.

Nope, didn't fix it... Got the fairing off & suspended.. Got the handlebars off... Tapped the triple tree plate up till it came off... Was able to get a fairly weak bite with a pair of channel locks, but barely got a budge from the locking nuts. Put it all back together and only had a couple of pieces left over...lol Ordered that wrench from dinges and will tear it back down and try again when I receive it. The trike is rideable, but the steering is too loose at low end speeds. Will see about ordering and installing a new front tire before our trip to Gatlinburg next month... Maybe that will help some.. Tnx again for the help Jay.
-
Jay, Got the fairing off. I know you said to take the handlebars off... just the bar or the risers off the triple tree also??
-
Nope. Ragtop called me and explained that the top plate of the EZsteer triple tree is thicker than stock therefore the nuts will not be exposed requiring the front fairing removal, handlebar removal and pinch allen bolts on inside of triple tree to be loosend so top plate can be tapped upward revealing the lock nuts. Off to the Hrdwre store to get some eyebolts to install in the ceiling so I can suspend the fairing when removed, then the fun begins....

10:30 Friday Morning. Am following Freebirds direction for tightening the Steering Head Bearings. Front end is up and there is absolutely no resistance or drag in the steering to prevent or buffer the left/right turning of the front. Problem now is that it is on the lift, wheel off the ground, the top nut is loose, but there is no access to the lock nuts as nothing has moved. I'm guessing that something else somewhere has to be loosened to allow the triple tree to slide on the stem thus exposing the lock nuts?? Any help?? It is a Hannigan with the Hannigan EZsteer. Didn't have a 22mm wrench but an SAE 1 1/16th open end worked to loosen the nut.
