  1. I joined VentureRider last Fall shortly after buying my 1st RSV. Lot of value in being a member of a good forum like this and really appreciate all the knowledge I have gained from members here... spent the winter going down a rabbit hole and had the bike stripped down its underwear (OCD like that), I have bought parts from several members and did many upgrades over winter, been riding it anytime I can leave the truck at home :-). Took a little getting used to the size of this beast but I really enjoy riding this couch around, most comfortable motorcycle I have owned! Honestly I am hooked now and doubt I would own anything smaller in the future and thinking at some point down the line I will likely transition into a trike when the time is right. Anyway, the wife and I love Asheville and only live a couple hours away. I just booked a cabin for Aug 18 & 19 (on new map its DC-6, located on the river & on the old map its listed as T-6). Had to find a cabin with a bathroom if I wanted the wife to come, lol. We look forward to meeting everyone! -Drew
  2. I just happened to see this on ebay the other day... there are a few styles and the bar appears to have the correct bracket on it? https://www.ebay.com/itm/173006761061?_trkparms=ispr%3D1&hash=item284801ac65:g:TcwAAOSw7WBe4eLF&amdata=enc%3AAQAGAAAA8Jh5QhczPe5mtwSYdpKdm70YNWnL0GmbHpiKJOU3CxZEbICxYUMdsMEr7Wz%2Fqc9Ddjq3F2l%2BnHeEB2Stdsh1IiHyob98%2BN55MevLG6b0qz84XYjWJBC5YyofP59DQg4xn5cvB9yNv%2B0SvbDQVU1qLWKGh%2F0x4MeQ%2B3W90PfsVVHm4%2Ff7DubrVNdY50omeSStTpD6FS%2FQC5f3%2BPLZu888DLahpCx9i3GomHSznkCZymPZSWCREVtraB4f9ggyWu%2BfqtG%2FcEkinvVlKnE9af3hJLbh%2BH9M4pykXvxyHI%2FWLEw7UaqlpfFSDy9DMOQ6Cx%2BGFg%3D%3D|tkp%3ABFBMgKLe0Idg
  3. Sorry I cant be of more help, electrical is not my strong suit. Couple links that may help? 1st link talks about how to check the coils using ohm meter.... https://www.justanswer.com/motorcycle/3vwfv-star-bike-wont-start-coil-there-type-crank-sensor.html Have you checked the electrical connections at the harness you have to disconnect to remove the tank? Guessing you have already checked all your fuses.... but behind the passenger foot peg cover on left side you have a fuse box with mostly 10 & 15 amp fuses (should be a couple spares in the box). Behind that cover is also the the starter fuses... and 1 of the 2 30 amp fuses is an extra fuse. Here is another link from this forum from back in 2014 - no spark issue with several good ideas to look into.... look at Post #9 for an idea on spark & then post #18+ (sounds like a bad ignition switch was his culprit?).
  4. The member I got the plug/play bypass relay is @djh3
  5. I am new here so could be off base.... but have you pulled the gas tank and checked your ignition wires? I have heard too much power is routed thru there and a member here sells a bypass relay (which I bought and installed as a preventative). May be worth pulling your gas tank to check, there is a bundle of wires/harnesses directly under the tank behind the ignition. Its the red/pink harness connector and I have attached 2 documents that came with my bypass so you know what to look for. Also a 3rd document on how to repair the actual ignition switch if that is what went bad. Good luck tracking down the issue! 6. I have the utopia backrest on my 2012 RSV. Love how easily it conforms to your riding position, moves with you as your re-position, etc... most comfortable backrest I have ever used.
  7. For what its worth, I recently bought a 2012 RSV and while doing pre-purchase inspection I noticed a bunch of oily substance coating the bottom of the carbs, some in that center twinkie area and a LOT coating basically the entire rear (bottom half) of the engine, I needed a flashlight shined up under the gas tank area to realize it was coming from the top of the engine area somewhere... I bought the bike anyway crossing my fingers that it wasnt a serious issue since I had a feeling it was related to the emissions since before I went to look at the bike I did a bit of digging on the RSV and found some bikes had this issue. 1st thing I did was rip down the top half of the bike and it ended up that 1 of the 2 small hoses that connect to the bottom of the airbox nipple on the left side had popped off some time ago and it had been dumping this for quite some time now. Believe its the motorcycle version of what a PCV valve does on a vehicle. I want to figure out a way to make some kind of a catch can or delete this completely since it made a huge oily mess, also no way the engine can be running optimally trying to process that much oil thru the airbox. Wondering if the valves being adjusted may reduce the amount of oil that gets dumped out? (I also know from reading here that making sure the oil is no higher than half way up the sight glass makes a big difference and the PO definately had too much oil in there). Different thread tho, not trying to take this off track. Anyway.... I mention this just in case you have something similar going on and its not related to the twinkie gasket. May be worth checking
  8. Thread revival here: I recently bought a 2012 RSVS - funny cause my wife also followed me home and told me I wasn't visible at all, big black bike with a large trunk and only the single stock brake light. I am looking to do exactly what you did (great looking job), been having trouble tracking down a new or used wing. If anyone can point me toward one, that would be great! I would like to light it up to be a lot more visible from the sides and the rear. Almost every close call I have had in the past 25yrs of riding has been related to cars moving into my space cause most people dont pay attention to their surroundings, bright lights may help increase awareness. This is my 1st touring bike, love how smooth it handles. So far I have converted all the bulbs to LED. Previous owner had already done an aftermarket LED headlight and the 2 running lights. I have bought a variety of LED's that I am going to wire in when I can figure out a tasteful way to do it but plan to have lights on the back & sides of the saddle bags and the trunk. Hopefully I can also track down a wing and copy you. Great job on the wing install!
