Yeah, I agree. You notice I didn't say to eat the fish! It's just cool to watch it.

Door County! Cheap hotels, beautiful scenery, great fish boils.

Yeah, I thought that was a really long vacation! Yup, bring your heated vest, it's cold up there by then.

Hey, 4 or 5 of us will be heading to Mackinaw City on Sept. 6th, staying at the Super 8 in the shadow of the bridge, great location. 500 plus mile day too! We'll get in late afternoon, maybe 5ish. Cherry Red Goldwing, Black Valkrie, couple of Harleys and my 2k MM RSV, of course. I agree, the locks are a great thing to see. Beautiful time of year to be up there.............heated vest sure helps. Cheers and we'll look for ya.

lifting an RSV
FutureVentures replied to papa smurf's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Thanks Michael for the reply. Duh, didn't realize it was on the "other" site. Since I have the adaptor I'll just use that, but dang, it's a tight squeeze getting under the bike. May actually park the tires on some plywood to raise it a bit, before sliding jack under. Thanks again. -
lifting an RSV
FutureVentures replied to papa smurf's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
There is no Miscellaneous section under the 2nd Gen Tech library, dang it. Any idea where else that article might be? My Sears lift just barely fits under my RSV after installing adapter. Had to remove rubber padding for it to slide under. This, before I've tried to lower the front end too. -
How timely is this thread? I'm riding a 2000 MM limited edition RSV. So yesterday I'm riding down the main street from my house, Deep Lake Road in NE Illinois, I see a bike coming towards me, white, big, gorgeous. Sure enough, after doing the obligatory low hand salute, I realize for sure, it's another 2K MM RSV! He was riding two up. I then spasmatically pointed to his bike, at 40mph each.... I damn near turned around to chase and say hello. Anyway, it was cool, my bike has a brother somewhere in the hood. Cheers.

Found the HF one with motorcycle adaptor for $69 plus $24 shipping on E-bay. That seemed pretty reasonable so, it's done. Now, I just need irons, bead lube, gear lube and oh, knowledge on how to do this! Ahh, but that's where y'all come in.

Reading old threads, trying to decide about mounting/unmounting my own tires. Would this work? http://www.farmandfleet.com/catalog/product.aspx?i=495193&h=080602002 The local "shop", a dealership, will charge me $80-90 to change both tires, if they are dismounted. Seems kinda pricey. Heck, I've changed dozens of bicycle tires, how hard can it be?

115 mph and room to go further...
FutureVentures replied to a topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Well, only 95 so far, but damn it was easy to get to there. New Tires this week(Maxxis Classic), only then will I really push it some. On a similar note, have been letting it rev like y'all said in another thread, wow! These suckers really like to rev. Smoke a HD yesterday but, I don't think he was quite trying or, maybe he gave up easy. 115 is moving. Do you have the stock, giant wind-screen on still? -
Ok, ignorant question here. What's a double-clutch? Cause it sounds like something I want to do!

Hi, As an ardent helmet wearer, I'm glad to hear this: "They just this week posted the stats for last year....87 bike deaths 75% wore no helmet" However, I can't seem to find that stat anywhere. Can you cite the source please? Can't argue with my buddies if I don't have the facts to back it up. Heard an interesting quote from a non-helmet buddy recently: "If I go down, I'd rather die that be paralyzed for life". Hmm, interesting rationale. Doesn't take into account the likelihood of being paralyzed or death is far greater without a helmet. Details, details.

Trip-WI,IL,IN,KY,WV,VA,NC-Assistance
FutureVentures replied to Atwell fireman's topic in Watering Hole
Slight clarification, it's 41 South. I live about 15 mins West of I94, near the NE corner of IL. There is still a TON of construction up this way on I94, take 41 South instead cause the lane changes and such on I94 up here are crazy. Not to mention, you're riding on what was the shoulder in some cases. Besides, if you go down 41S, you can stop at Fatmans for a bite to eat. Just a bit South of WI, a popular biker stop. Agree with the other comment, "you're on a touring bike", 3 days? When I bought mine in LA recently, I rode 1115 in two days(stopped by tornadoes), 750 on the last day and coulda done more. But I guess if ya got the time, enjoy the sights. No matter when you come through Chicago, there will be traffic. Safe ride, feel free to call if you need assistance in the NE area of IL. 847-644-5695 -
Handle bar wobble with no hands...
FutureVentures replied to bugfish69's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Fork bearings or steering head nut? If the former, um, where are those? Tightened my steering head a month or so ago, went away completely but seems to be back, guessing it's time for another tighten. -
I vote for Chicago-land! More specifically, how about down near Starved Rock State park. http://dnr.state.il.us/Lands/Landmgt/PARKS/I&M/EAST/STARVE/PARK.HTM It's also close to the Middle East Conflicts Wall Memorial, where the Freedom Ride ends at every year. http://www.villageprofile.com/illinois/illinoisriver/ And yeah, it's closer to home!

Wooooooooooo Friggin hoooooooooooo! I finally fixed the ghost in the raido, thanks to Gunboat! It wasn't the connections, now soaked in di-electric grease. It wasn't the MCU, though I was beginning to think, it was. It wasn't, me! It was, the friggin Radio/amp itself!!! Ironically, the local dealership pin-pointed that at the first visit... Oh man, it's so cool, the MP3 even works too! I replaced the radio/amp and voila, it all worked. Gunboat, please respond soon as you can, so I can $paypal your money. I can't seem to find your emails lately. To all, "Gunboat" sent me his radio, free of charge, without ever meeting me.......if it worked, I'd pay, if not..............anyhooo, just amazing. This site, the people, heartwarming. Now, if only I could get all the screws back into the back of the fairing, that'd be cool. Anyway, Semper Fi, Erich:bighug:

Thank you for coming to my Maintenance Day
FutureVentures replied to Freebird's topic in Watering Hole
Wow, What a great event I missed. I had NO idea! I plan to be there next year, say when. I'm really amazed and impressed by the size and apparent organization of this event. Another idea, in addition to the list of things that need to be done: mini-classes. Perhaps having a couple sessions on common maintenance issues, that a bunch of folks could attend, observe and learn. Even simple things like, splitting the fairing, checking fluid levels and common problems. Keep the photos coming......well, you can skip at least half of the pond monster mystery. -

You guys have helped me so much already, had to tell you this. Through tomorrow, Sears is having a sale on their great motorcycle lift/jack: It's only $79! With all the maintenance I'm already doing, I need it too. Picked up a really nice roller stool too, should save some back pain. Act quick, sale ends tomorrow! No, I don't work for Sears. Here's the pics:

Hi All, I'm looking to replace my existing radio, as I "think" that's the cultprit, nothing else has worked. So, anyone know where I can find a replacement unit? Bikebandit.com has them but, they're about $900. Or, can these be sent in for repair, somewhere? Thanks.

Di-lectric didn't do it. Radio still possessed, help!
FutureVentures replied to FutureVentures's topic in Watering Hole
I dunno what's the deal, I tried everything under the sun, per recommendations here. Nothing helps. Plus, now I can't get the middle screw on the left and right side on the back of the fairing back in, threads don't catch. Grrr.... Advice on that? But anyway. I can hear through all 4 speakers, barely, with no volume control, with MCU detached. Noticed when I unplugged/plugged the blue MCU cable in the fairing, it would make a pop noise and sound would return to the front speakers. Checked all fuses, are all good. Greased all connections, twice. Took apart the MCU, to the point I discovered it's water tight, then put back together. Doh. I'm starting to think it is indeed, the Clarion head unit. Bummer, cause that's expensive. Anyone have one to sell, cheap? Or know where to get one? Nothing like spending two hours dinking around, to no avail....... But hey, I did learn more about the guts of the fairing. Idears? Cause, I give up.- 13 replies
