  1. Rode one last September when they brought the show to town. Ride was good enough. handling was good enough, looks are very personal, bags volume is small, didn't seem to have much low end grunt. Craftmanship, finish & detail are excellent. But I could not get past the inside of my right leg getting "cooked" by the motor & pipes. It looks as if the motor is offset in the frame. As you set on the seat & look down between your legs, you see part of the motor & pipe on the right hand side. You can't see any of the motor on the left side. Maybe it's just me. Anyway, that experience helped lead me to an 07 RSV. No turning back! DNB

  3. Yoo Roadkill, I just recieved my XXL with vent & tint but have not installed it yet. Check out this site for a good discussion about windshield materials & vents. Thanks, DNB www.calsci.com/motorcycleinfo/Fairing.html#Windshield
  4. I took a trip to the Clearview factory last evening to pick up my shield. They are located about 35 miles SW of Denver in a small community in the mountains. Their modest set up was pretty impressive. The owner has been making shields for over 20 years. They make every shield by hand and place a lot of emphasis on quality control. They produce hundreds of shields and ship all around the world. We discussed the recent "NC" ad video link. John gave me a link to one of their competitors sites that I think pretty much covers all the angles on windshields & their materials. Hope this answers your questions about the material debate. I also was able to snag some scraps that I will test with a hammer later. Check out this site. www.calsci.com/motorcycleinfo/Fairing.html#Windshield Thanks, DNB

  8. Drove up to pick up my shield last night after work. Picked up some scraps also. Had a good chat with John & the guys. I will start a new thread about the trip. DNB
  9. I ordered a chatterbox set up from them & it came in a timely fashion. Prety good price. I then ordered two pairs of rain gear for mama & me at a really good price. This was in September I think (2 or 3 years ago), the stuff didn't arrive. I called after 1 month & they said the items were back ordered. I called after 2 months & they said they were discontinued & they would send me the new item for the same price. Well the season was over so I forgot about not recieving the rain gear. The next March I found the order when prepairing for income tax time & realized they had never sent me the stuff. I called them & they couldn't find my order because it was last year. I cancelled the order just in case they actually found it. Called a competitor and the gear was here with in a week. New models & the correct size. The only thing that was ok is that they never charged my card. DNB

Yeah Gib, Now that I think about it, one of your posts said you had ordered one. I ordered shortly after that. No worries! Yesterday was a long time ago. I'll pick mine up tonight. We'll compare notes later down the road. Thanks, DNB
  11. Finally had a chance to see what this baby will do. Saturday Mama & I joined two other couples (scream'n eagle types) for a decent ride. We took the back way, up 285 to Pine Junction (was within a block of "Clearview") then south through Deckers & on to Woodland Park which was the first destination site of the season. (The Dust-off Run) They had a "Poker Run, a band, beeeer, 'dogs & door prizes. (It was a fund raiser for a local charity) The weather was perfect (high 70's). That stretch of road was a perfect test area for the RSV. It has curves, winds, straights, narrows, wides, ups & downs. It was about an eighty mile ride each way through the Colorado Mountains. It's the same route we used to take on our way to Cripple Creek for the MIA/POW rally. Mama loved her new "throne". She was very comfortable. I thought the RSV handled very smooth. Our HS's worked well & the much discussed gear whine was not all that annoying. The SET's were not an issue. They either didn't keep up or couldn't keep up. I did things on the RSV that would of ground the floorboards off my old VTX. All in all, I am very satisfied with my new ride. I think I'll keep it a while. It's Official, The riding season has begun! DNB

    Windshields

Well I just recieved the call from John at "Clearview". He said my shield was ready for pick-up. We chatted about the NC post for a minute. He said that all acrylic is not created equal, nor is bread. Their acrylic is D.O.T. approved. I wonder if the acrylic in the NC post is? John said that he had seen the post before. I think it's been around for awhile. Anyway.............I made an appointment to pick up my shield Monday after work. I'll check out their set up and provide a better discussion about the "Shield" at a later date. Thanks, DNB

I ordered a XXL w/vent about a month ago. Since they're made about 40 miles from my house, I'll be making a trip to their shop for my shield as soon as it is finished. We'll have a discussion about materials & NC's add. I'll let you know what's up soon. DNB
  17. I just performed the cassette lombotomy (courtesy of the other site), ran a dedicated cable to my ipod and it all resides behind the closed cassette door. You could also run a dedicated power cord in there also. Dan in Denver
  18. Greetings All & thanks for the warm reception. You might say I'm catching up fairly quickly. Last week I installed the "signal dynamics" brake light bar. This weekend I installed the luggage rack & the saddlebag guards. I didn't even try to fit them on (the saddlebag guards). I drilled a 3/8" hole in the upper corner just above the original one. Didn't even remove the protective plastic until I had drilled the new holes. Everything fit perfect using the inclosed hardware. (courtesy of this site) I ordered the clearview XXL with vent. Yesterday I was bored so I decided to split the fairing just for the "grins". While I was in there, I decided to do the cassette lobotomy (courtesy of the "other" site) and I ran a new dedicated cable for the ipod which now resides behind the cassette door. Today (Sunday) the weather cooperated & I was able to con MaMa into doing a lunch run. It was the first for her on the new wheels and the first trip over 15 miles. I got a brief glimpse of what this baby can do. Wow! Mama was very comfortable. The sound & the intercom worked well. Better than the "chatterbox" on the old wheels. Life is good. More later. Thanks again for the excellent input. Dan in Denver.

    Intro

Greetings one & all, My name is Dan Bollacker. I live in Denver (Littleton) Colorado. I rode in the late 60's until the early 80's. Sold the bikes to raise the fam. Kids are on their own now. In 2004 I got back on a new 1300 VTX which I accessorized quite heavily. Last year I found this site while doing research on bikes that would be more comfortable especially over longer distances. Last year at "Thunder Mountain" (rally at Loveland, CO) I test rode all the brands. Later when Victory came to town with their road show, I drove one. In my opinion the RSV came out on top for all the same reasons mentioned on this site. I had to have blue. Tried to buy a new 07 last September but the bank & could not get close enough. I was bummed. Kind of gave up. I was not all that displeased with the VTX. The flame rekindled after the first of the year. I would check around from time to time. Found a used 07 with 5000 miles in Florence, CO. Where the heck is that. To my surprize I discovered this cool dealership in this small rural community about 100 miles southwest of Denver. They pride themselves on their customer service. They are THAT good. We made the deal ant the rest has been up hill all the way. This site is amazing and way beyond helpful. I've been implementing many of the things covered in this site. Thanks everyone! Especially to the fore founders whom have done all the grunt work so that us newbees have a much smoother road to travel. Hope I did'nt bore you to tears. Thanks again, Dan in Denver. 07 RSV Crystlblu

    Tires?

Thanks for the info. I get the picture. Since I came off a 1300 VTX, the RSV seems like a Cadillac. Goose, all the things you mentioned , I experienced on the VTX. I have only been able to ride the RSV to work (in between snow storms), approximately 15 miles, so I don't have a good feeling of what this "baby" will do. I have ordered the windshield, Signal Dynamics LED bar & other accessories upon you all's advise. I will be dealing with the tires soon. Thanks again for all your experience, heads-up, advise & help. DNB in Denver
