Well Lenny. Not speaking for Puc but for myself. There was no driveway - period ! Hypothetically if there was then the biker would in my eyes have him self to blame - But again-there was no driveway. It is what it was ! In life we all make all kind of decisions that can make us harm and I am for sure one of those people who generally do not believe in people being mean or bad. And believe me - My American freinds sometime shake their heads over this wreckless Icelandic Eskimo ! Now here is a story: I was driving in West southern Ny state on my way to Big Toms house. We had been in contact and I told him that I would be at his house in about 2 and half hours. So everything was cool. Then I stopped in a small town called Jesper Ny at a small shack/gas station to have a Coke and to stretch a little. Out comes a guy with a Pizza box, stops by my bike and starts talking to me. Found out that i was from Iceland and was impressed to say the least. Ended by offering me to follow him home and share a pizza with him and his wife. I told him I kind of had a tight schedule and a friend of mine was waiting for me so I would take a rain check if that was O.K. with him. He said suer. If you ever go through this town then just stop by - I live in the blue house right above the*****store. He went to his car after saying goodbye and then I thought to myself: WHY THE HECK NOT! So I walked up to his car and asked if the the offer was still valid then I would love to share a pizza with him and his wife. Short story goes that I did and I spent two hours chatting with him and his lovely wife, had a tour in his garage where he had a newly restored Ford T model as well as an awesome old Harley. Finally when arriving at Toms place, Tom was waiting in his driveway with his arms crossed not looking very HAPPY ! As sson as I dismounted the bike he said: Don´t tell me - you met somebody and made some new friends right ? Well, I told him the whole story and he got pretty mad at me. Not for showing up late but for being wreckless and taking chances with people I knew nothing about. He told Craig (Cecdoo) the story and both of them agreed that one of these days I would dissapear and most likely be found decades later, chained naked to a wall in a basement in some no name town. The moral of the story is that we all make choices that are not always the most logical choices and can surely put ourselves in danger but I would like to look at that as in extreme circumstances. But should we expect a bad situation in every move and decision we make ? Heck - first time I came to USA to meet up with the Venturerider group I stayed at Toms house without ever meeting the guy. Turned out to be a pretty nice guy after all - actually one of my best friends from the minute I met him. I will never ever even think about going through life by looking over my shoulder and carefully calculating every step I make. I will though not intentionally put myself in danger unless it is unavoidable but we gotta go through life without constant fear of something going wrong. If not then my advice is to stay away from motorcycles at all times. Well, English is not my native language and I have a lttle trouble putting my thoughts in words but I hope you guys get my drift. I would at least never expect someone to try to kill me if I was braking a simple traffic law. But maybe I am just naive. Anyway. Whenever I am passing by that little town of Jasper I always stop by and check on my buddy with the Harley and the old T-Ford. Unfortunately he has been at work so far but met his wife who has told me that he was devastated not being home. But if I ever dissapeer then look for me in a small town called Jasper (now that is a JOKE O.K. - sometimes my sarcastic Icelandic humour is misunderstood by my great American friends ) You all be safe now. Friendly regards, Jonas

Absolutely AGREE with you PUC ! Now here is a make believe scenario: Last night me and Greta were riding our Red Baron down town in Reykjavik Iceland. I needed to park the bike and found an empty spot with a parking meter. Dang,,,We did not have any coins with us so we decided just to take the chance and ignore the meter - face the fine if we would get one. Then suddenly a car pulls up and out comes this furious guy and says: How dare you not pay the parking meter !!!!!!! He pulled out a gun and shot me in the chest. Greta was able to seek cover and avoided the bullets flying all around her. Now I just came from surgery and the doctor said that I was lucky not getting killed but I would make a full recovery even though it would take some time. How could I be so stupid not to have foreseen that by skipping paying the parking meter I would most likely put myself and my precious wife Greta in the situation of someone trying to kill us since I broke the parking meter law !!!! SO,,,Is the bottom line never ever to ride a bicycle, motorcycle, car or any other vehicle if you are not absolutely sure that you will follow all and any rule and law in the book and if you don´t then you will risk somebody trying to kill you any time you brake simple traffic laws. NO,,I DON´T THINK SO ! If this was true I might as well wrap myself in cotton and crawl down in a hole. Just my 10 cents worth and I sincerely do not expect any of you to agree with me. Please feel free to disagree Just my personal opinion ! Be safe all of you and play it the way you feel most safe and comfortable with !

StarFan is being offered a new old car-what should he do ?
StarFan replied to StarFan's topic in Watering Hole
Well you are right about that Puc - He is an awesome guy and has been more than supporting to me and my family as well as my dear mother in law. Regarding Diesel powered cars then for the last 9 years or so I have had diesel powered cars. You are absolutely right about the maintenance. Glow plug problems, injector problems, high pressure injecting valve problems and the list goes on and on. BUT,,,not all diesel engines have this problem. Used to have a Izusu pick up supplied by my company that I got brand new. Never had any problems at all and only had to change the glow lugs at 140.000 miles. On the other hand I had a MMC Pajero jeep and had to change the glow plugs every 20.000 miles. Man I hated that thing. Now in Iceland we have a Jeep dealership and I had a talk with them and they said that if there were any recalls on this year that had not been done to this specific vehicle then they would do it at no charge, but as far as they could tell there were no recalls. The recalls you are referring to were not for the 2007 Cherokee. I am so lucky that I have a friend that used to be the repair shop foreman for the Jeep dealership in Iceland and now runs his own certified Jeep, Mercedes, Chrysler repair shop. He told me that this Mercedes motor the 3.0 Liter in the Cherokee is originated from the Mercedes Benz Sprinter Van and is one of the most reliable motors from this era. Said he never had a problem with these and generally they would run around 150 to 200.000 miles before needing new glowplugs or injectors. Well now I am just waiting for tomorrows verdict (Man, I had to write this messages three times after accidentally posting two times, then accidentally deleting both of them and,,,,,,now lets hope this one stays in ! ) -
StarFan is being offered a new old car-what should he do ?
StarFan replied to StarFan's topic in Watering Hole
Well, it is a Grand Cherokee LTD with all possible options. Comparing prices in Iceland against USA prices is not actual due to custom fees and so forth. Cars are in general 60% more expensive in Iceland than in USA. The price for such used car in Iceland with around 90.000 miles is around 31.000 US$. My price with six years equal monthly payments without any interests is around 25.000 US$, = 348 US$ per month. No brainer in my eyes. Just gotta wait to see if the Boss likes it after taking a test drive tomorrow. Am sure her father will pull the right sentimental Father Daughter strings In the end it is gonna be her call as well as her car. -
StarFan is being offered a new old car-what should he do ?
StarFan replied to StarFan's topic in Watering Hole
Well, The car has been started and spun around in the neighbourhood every month through the years hence the mileage. It just came from the dealers workshop where it was inspected thoroughly and all and every fluid chanced and the whole condition checked. Came out with: 10.0 from the dealer so I think that in sense of dried out rubbers, seals and so forth I am pretty safe. Also it has been cleaned and polished regularly and looks like brand new in every aspect. The color is Olive green and I personally like it so there will be no repainting required. Looking forward to see it in person. Hopefully my wife will pick me up at the airport in this vehicle two weeks from now. The story continues ! -
In 2007 my father in law was trying to collect some unpaid rent from a guy. The guy imported new Jeeps from USA and sold them in Iceland. He was owing my father in law around 40.000 US$ in rent so my father in law took one of his then new 2007 Jeep Cherokee as a payment for the rent. Took it home to my mother in law and said: Listen honey - I think it is about time that you get a new Jeep since your old one is 7 years old (2000 model) and this new one is excellent for you. My mother in law went outside with him to have a look at the car and without even opening the doors she said: NAW,,,,,Don´t like the color !!! And I love my 2000 model and I am not gonna trade - period !! My father in law thought about this for a while and said to himself: Well, it is gonna start breaking down soon and then she will come to her senses. I will just store the car in my warehouse until she comes to her senses and wakes up ! Now it is the year of 2015 and just recently my father in law brought up this issue with my mother in law for the 50th time. Still the same answer: No, ugly colour and I love my old one ! Never gonna trade that one-period - never !!!! Sooooo,,,,,,Now my father in law wants me to take it off his hands for a very reasonable price and payment conditions are "pay as you please, I don´t care" were his words. We are talking about 2007 model Grand Cherokee, Engine is 3,0L Mercedes Diesel. Mileage: 2.500 miles ! Should I go for it ??? Sorry no pictures at the moment since I am at work in Norway but will post some when I get home in about two weeks - Man it sucks not to be at home right now !

Now cool down boys. You both have the right to have your own opinions but please respect each others opinions. In my eyes the guy driving the car intentionally tried to kill these people - the video clearly shows that. He has no authority to punish them in any way. In my eyes he should be charged with murder attempt. That would have nothing to do with the biker crossing a double line - WHY ? Because no one has the right to try to kill someone because that person broke a simple traffic law. I do agree that he broke the law and should get a ticket for that but that is all he should get. He should not get a life threating/murder attempt as penalty. He should get a ticket and a fine and that´s it. That is why we have traffic laws, police officers and judges. But I just want to make it very clear that: The opinions of the undersigned do in no way reflect the opinions of the,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, And i do and always will respect all of your opinions even though I do not aggree

Funny stumbling upon this thread. I have a 1998 Royal Star Tour Classic II that has a seat lock mechanism that opens with the ignition key. Have been wondering why in the world Yamaha did not continue using this for the Venture. This winter I am going to see if I can convert this to work on my Corbin seat on my 2000 Venture. I am pretty sure it can be done without to much trouble. I´ll keep you posted.

Words taken straight from the mouth of the CEO of Yamaha Motors: Product creation is a process that begins from the customers. I believe our task as a manufacturer is to maximize and optimize the value we provide our customers, in terms of product appeal, reliability and cost performance. What’s more, we must always do it in ways that exceed customer expectations. That’s why we always listen to the voices of the customers in each market and build and supply products that fit the realities of the specific markets. Because we know that each product has to be the real thing and we have to offer it at a price that represents real value for the customers in their market Ain´t we lucky !!

I sincerely will offer to host this rally next year. Location will be Reykjavik Iceland. Since it is an International Rally I think it is about time to move it out of the States. So what do you all say - Iceland next year ? (There we go again - another Rally with only me and Kristjan / krben) Jonas / StarFan
