Neat Fender Trim Rail Modification
StarFan replied to StarFan's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Hi Steve. Well, I just did this on the floor in my garage with a hecksaw. Just did it very slowly and took care not to cut into the upper tubing. You can always wrap the upper tubing in a rag or something to be on the safe side. Afterwards I filed the end down to get the right angle for the lights (made the cut about two millimeters longer than I wanted it to be) .Secondly you can have the guys at the workshop cut it for you when you have them make the insert - presuming you do not have a lathe at your place. -

Neat Fender Trim Rail Modification
StarFan replied to StarFan's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Hi Orrin. I simply fell for this old bottle Green and Beige/White color. Adds the final vintage look to the bikes design. I think the real Yamaha code name for these colors are Camellia Green and Ceramic Ivory. -
Need some info.

Hi Condor. I found a detailed parts list manual on the internet. I have it downloaded. Do you want me to send the complete file (pdf) to your email address? Here below is the page with the part you are asking about. Seems to me that it is the Print plate as well as the housing around it. Check it out !- 9 replies

Neat Fender Trim Rail Modification
StarFan replied to StarFan's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Thank you all for your nice comments. You should really check out the Fortech webpage. They have all kind of little cosmetic lights - both LED as well as regular bulbs. Now I will be waiting for you guys to modify your fender rails and post some pictures. There are other options like having the tubes stick out a little further and so forth. Let your imagination take control. -
Frame Cracked Under Seat
StarFan replied to DMooch's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
After looking at the pictures my opinion is that either this bike had some kind of a mishap in the past or it has been heavily weight abused by previous owner. The seperation of the tube below the weld is typical for a welded tube that is under a lot of load/tension. Rarely the weld itself would brake unless it is poorly done. My opinion is that this is not a production failure. See though what Yamaha says and if they do not want to swallow this then have it fixed by a qualified welding shop. I am sure that the tube will be as new once it is fixed. And check the tightness of all the frame bolts to be on the safe side. Wish you all the best with your issue and I am sure you will be smiling when all is fixed. -

Don´t be sorry. We all have the right to have different opinions and views. This is just the way I would do it - not saying it is the right way. I would have this professionally fixed. If this was a common thing I am sure there would have been some discussions about it. Of cause there should be no excuse for a cracked frame but I am doubtful that this is a production failure even though it is always a possibilitie. I have a 1998 Royal Star Tour Classic II and the construction of these bikes just yells: Quality - Craftmanship (IMHO). -
Frame Cracked Under Seat
StarFan replied to DMooch's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
First of all sorry to hear about your problem. Have a question though: Is the piece welded together where the crack is - meaning is the crack in the weld or on the plain tube? If it is on the weld then it is possible that the welding was done inccorrectly and it began cracking little by little. There is also a question if you have had this bike since it was new? If somebody else had the bike before you then it is of cause possible that the previous owner abused the bike or had some kind of a accident. Is there or has there been a salvage title on the bike? Just speculating on the above, but if I were you I would just tackle the problem without to much of a speculation what was and what could have happened. Just take the bike to a reputable welding shop and have them look at it and advice you on repair and cost. Then simply have the thing repaired and case is closed. I myself am over getting a nervous brakedown when something goes wrong with my bikes. I just accept the problems and fix it or to have it fixed. This is the price we pay having a motorcycle - they simply tend to brake down and need fixing and adjustments from time to time. Like the other day I was going to give my windshield a good thorough cleaning and then some rain repellant afterwards. I opened my workshop cabinet where I keep all my cleaning stuff and took out a bottle of white spirit to clean the greasy salt and road debris from the shield. Made a fatal error and poured Acetylene into the rag thinking it was white spirit and rubbed it on the shield. Practically melted the plexi. Was getting a fit when I suddenly stopped and realised that there was nothing I could do about this. Can´t reverse time. So had to order a new one and decided not to get all strung up about it. Took the windshield to a Plexi shop and had them cut the top down three inches. Felt much better afterwards and am just thrilled to get my new windshield and will afterwards have a tall one and a low one. Wish you all the best with this issue but I am sure it will all be fine in the end. -
I can finally be in the group!

Congratulations Principal. Ride safely and remember to post pictures. -
Greetings. Just finished a kind of a neat "Fender Trim Rail" modification on my Royal Star and wanted to share it with you. I had bought a "Mascot", the "Chrome Fender Tip" as well as the "Fender Trim Rail" even though the dealer told me that the "Rail and the Tip" would not look good together - the fender would look overdressed and the Trim Rail would hide/shade the fender tip so there was no logic in putting both on the bike. Me being a stubborn eskimo demanded all items and said that I would at least have an option of what to put on. To cut a long story short I saw when trying these on that the dealer was right - with both items the front fender looked overdressed and the Chrome Fender Tip was barely visible since the trim Rail hid it almost completely. But have a look at the pictures. I think I came up with quite a nice looking solution for putting all items on with a little modification to the trim Rail. How to do this is easy or as follows: Cut off the lower tubing of the Trim Rail. Have a workshop with a lathe make an insert that goes into the tubing but has the same diameter as the outside of the tubing at the end. Have them drill through the center and make threads. On the end of the Fender Trim Rail (the end that attaches to the fork/fender) drill a 4 mm hole so you can run wires through the tubing. Buy some LED lights at www.fortech-online.com/ (they have all kinds of neat vintage looking lights) and luckily the bottom radius of the lights chrome housing is exactly the same as the outside radius of the Trim Rail tubing. Open up the headlight and connect your wires to the blue wires inside the housing (there are two blue wires connected to one blue wire - the only ones with that color in the housing). Connecting this way makes the lights stay on constantly when bike is running regardless of high or low beam. They can of cause also be connected to the blink wire of the turn signal but that way they will only come on when you put the turn signal on. I am sure there are many other options in connecting these but I am not very clever when it comes to electricity so I leave other suggestions to those who have knowledge. The pictures show before and after to show the difference of these two different setups. Enjoy !

Idle mixture screws ?
StarFan replied to StarFan's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Maybe I am getting a little closer now. The attached photo is from the Yamaha parts diagram. Would no: 8 be the brass cap and no: 9 the pilot screw to turn out to get rid of the exhaust popping by any chance? -
Idle mixture screws ?
StarFan replied to StarFan's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Hi Lynn the Pegscraper. Was not surprised that you replied. Always there when I need some info. Since I am kind of a newbie in the Royal Star category then I was wondering if you could give me more specific location of these brass plugs. Can they been seen without removing the gas tank for example? I was trying to find these plugs on the dealer diagram but am kind of lost here. Did read about them on the forum for Ventures but there they are talking about the 32mm Mikuni so I am not sure this is the same. Simply not very clever when it comes to carbs. Could you guide me some more? -
Greetings. Can anybody tell me where the idle mixture screws are located on the 28mm Mikuni carbs (1998 Tour Classic)? Just cant seem to find these little buggers. I am having the exhaust popping and would really like to get rid of it. Have already run through a full tank of new fuel with cleaning additives (carb and injector cleaner) and it still pops. No holes in or around the Y pipe weld and all exhaust gaskets seem to seal perfectly. I plan to install the Dyna 3000 module in the near future but not at the moment. Any help or/and advice would be very much apreciated.

Trunk. HEEEELP!!!!!!!!!
StarFan replied to StarFan's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Thanks Forrest for your kind offer. I will make one more try with my seller and see if there is no way he wants to help me on this. Has already refused once but a second try is worth the chance. I will contact you (PM) after the weekend when I see how he reacts. Also will have to do some serious calculations to figure the whole thing out. Many thanks again for your kindness and understanding. -

Hi Condor. In my first post I wrote: I have not yet bought the items since I don´t want to do it until I see through the dismantle and shipping issue, but the parts are available. So I am actually trying to play it safe here. Kind of a stranded though. But mr. Keith R. has genorously offered his help and I will see how things work out. Thank you all for your input. -
Trunk. HEEEELP!!!!!!!!!
StarFan replied to StarFan's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Thanks for all your replys. The question "why not do it yourself" puzzles me a little. I have two bottom parts - one damaged that is attached to the lid of complete unit and one that is undamaged. I don´t need the damaged one so I need the bottom parts swapped. I can of cause do it myself IF I WAS IN THE USA. I am in Iceland! The shipping cost and the custom fees are very high so this would save me around 200 US$ at least. So, I need someone to help me out on this one. There is no reason and a complete waist of money shipping the damaged part to Iceland of cause. The trunk "assemebled" is very large and most likely exceeds the maximum size for postage. By taking off the armrests and speaker units and stored inside the trunk it should pass. The mounting bracket would most likely be shipped by the seller straight to me but the other parts should fit into the trunk. There I save around 200 US$ in shipping and custom fees. You see the custom wants 30% on top of the purchase price and shipping and when you have added all that together they want another 24.5% on top of the total. I hope this clears the issue and explains why I need help. -
:sign09:Boy am I in serious trouble now. Have been searching high and low for a trunk, trunk mounting bracket, grab rails and passenger trunk backrest to add to my Royal star Tour Classic II 1998. Have finally found most of these parts but the bottom part of the trunk is badly broken. Found another bottom that is intact and now I need to sort this out. Need to exchange the bottom part, dismantle the trunk and put the parts in the trunk itself to save space and so forth. O.K. what is my problem? I live in Iceland and need someone to help me with this. Need someone that is willing to have all the items shipped to his place and is willing to sort things out, dismantle, pack and ship to Iceland. This is quite a lot of work but I am surely willing to pay for the assistance by any reasonable rate. Is there anybody out there who has the time, skills and the kindness to help one little eskimo pulling this through? I have not yet bought the items since I don´t want to do it until I see through the dismantle and shipping issue, but the parts are available. Like I said to my wife - Just got to have it !!!!!!!!

Thanks Brian. I have already looked at all the aftermarket trunks available and many of them look to be quite nice but still the Venture trunk is the one that I think would be the nicest to add to my bike because of the curvie design that perfectly matches the design of the bike. If any of you people ever stumble upon one for sale then please do not hesitate to send me a PM or add it to this topic. Also need the bracket for the trunk. Thank you all.

Hi Bob and thanks for the input. The Harley bags look great on your super nice White Star but for my taste I want to keep the smooth curved lines on my Royal Star. Not saying that yours look bad - just not my taste. I am going to keep the bike for years to come and am willing to spend the money on the R.st. trunk. Only problem is finding one that is complete, not buying it piece by piece even though in the end I might have to do that. Surely not going to cough up 2.400 US$ for a new one but would be willing to pay somewhere between 800 and 1.000 US$ for a solid used one. Thanks again Bob.

Hi Yama Mama. I am from Iceland and it is very cold here and I wear heated gloves all the time and my hands are very warm and I don´t like them being cold since they get all blue when I fall on the ice if I have no heated gloves on and still I am a real man and I,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, The thing is - "some" of these Harley people just seem to look at bikers that ride other brands as a kind of a not worth speaking to. I have experienced this quite many times but then of cause there are a lot of nice people who rides Harleys so it would be wrong to judge the whole crowd. What is this thing about ,,,I RIDE A HARLEY,,, ego thing. Never could understand that. I know one thing for sure that I do not care if someone is riding a Suzuki, Honda or a Motogucci - if the person approaches and wants to chat about bikes then I am all ears.

What do I like about my Royal Star Tour Classic II 1998 and why did I fall in love with this bike? I thought it was the vintage look design, but somehow knew that it was not quite that and have been wondering what it was. Just could not pinpoint it. But now it suddenly hit me! There are so many shapes in the bike that are to be found in the old VW Beetle. My father (God rest his good soul:2133:) had a VW Beetle through my childhood and through my highschool years. Tought me to drive when I was 12 and my first car was a Beetle. I always liked the whitewall tires and the oval and round shapes. After I discovered this I went on a trip down memory lane and am feeling a little sad now missing my father and his old Beetle. But his memory lives and that is where I seek my comfort. Also know that he would have loved the Royal Star. His kind of forms and shapes.

I have a 1998 Royal Star Tour Classic II, with 9.527 miles on it. Never seen the bike in "person" since it is located somewhere on a vessel in the Atlantic ocean along with my custom Honda VTX1300 (promise to sell the Honda ). Just can´t wait for the bikes to arrive here in Iceland but they are scheduled to arrive on Wednesday. Guess who is going to be "Sitting on the dock of the bay":fishin:?
