I just could not believe my eyes when I watched this video. And the comments people make - "WOW that is one cool dad, wish my dad had been like this". Watch it and judge for yourself. In my eyes this person should not hold a motorcycle license and for sure needs some consulting about respecting the life of his own child. Forgive me for saying but - What a jerk ! I thought that I would leave The Red Baron as is when putting it in the workshop this winter. Then I started wondering,,,,,,,,,I really should stop wondering so much,,,,, Installed Monster Ovals and could not stop myself so I had my painter put some color on the air boxes and the black fairing covers in front of the drivers feet as well as the cover behind the passenger foot rests, the funny clam shaped visor between the forks as well as the passenger volume panel on the trunk.. And while doing that I finished designing and making templates for some saddlebag lid covers and a trunk bib. Nanci at Ace High Leather is making these for me and she is also making a tank bib (the one on the bike is a prototype with wrong color). All with the same material and colors as the Corbin seats. Also finally put my Custom Carb Covers on the bike - Still have a set left if somebody is interested (no lights on that set). When this is all done then I am not doing anything more to this bike - pretty much has it all,,,,,,,,,,The only thing I would be interested in doing is widening the saddlebags 2 inches. Am looking into it but not sure if I am gonna do it this winter. Still would be fun. Have an extra set of bags that I could use for this project. Anybody know if this has been done to a Venture bags ? Know that they have heightened the Harley bags though so widening the Venture bags should be possible. Here are some pictures. NOTE that the black and green lines on the saddlebag and trunk lid are just line tape and velcro for making templates. Also found a picture of the bike like it was when I first got it. Interesting to see the change. http://i1281.photobucket.com/albums/a501/jonaslill/Airbox%20and%20covers%20painted/IMG_0643_zpsa5qy29rs.jpg http://i1281.photobucket.com/albums/a501/jonaslill/Airbox%20and%20covers%20painted/IMG_0628_zpstbu5ijhq.jpg http://i1281.photobucket.com/albums/a501/jonaslill/Airbox%20and%20covers%20painted/IMG_0642_zps9is48wtk.jpg THEN AND NOW http://i1281.photobucket.com/albums/a501/jonaslill/Airbox%20and%20covers%20painted/Then%20and%20now_zpsyoub6sdi.jpg

Got a Royal Star Tour Classic! :)
StarFan replied to michaelclaw's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
It might be that some dealers did offer their customers some aftermarket pipes but I do know for sure that Yamaha themselves never did. I also think that Yamaha would not have been very keen if their dealers were offering their Yamaha customers aftermarket parts for their bikes. But note that quite many Royal Star owners have made some changes to their mufflers ( I am one of them) and I have seen all kind of brands on these bikes. Rest assure - these slash cuts are not from Yamaha - If I remember right most of these slash cuts come from Baron. -

Well Toyodie I think this is not quite correct. These Slash Cut Pipes ARE aftermarket or OEM from other bike brands.. Yamaha never made a Slash Cut for the Royal Stars. Here below you can see a picture of the original 4 into 4 pipes on a 1999 Tour De Lux. This is the same setup that was used from 1996 and onward. In 1996 there was only 4 into 4 available. In 1997 the 4 into 2 was available at certain models. Both my 1998 Tour Classic II´s were original and untampered with when I bought them and both had the 4 into 2 setup. I am not sure the previous owner has messed with your pipes. The thing is, Yamaha went a little back and forward with the headerpipe setup through the years on the older Royal Stars. It is highly possible that your bike came originally with this setup. The mufflers on your bike do not look original to me. Don´t remember that slash cut on these bikes. I sincerely doubt that they are Yamaha mufflers. If the bike is lacking power I would look somewhere else than at the muffler/exhaust setup. One way to check if these mufflers are Yamaha is to have a close look at them all around. There should be a Yamaha stamp and some letters somewhere on the inner side towards the bike or the underside. At least I have seen that on all bikes that I have taken the original mufflers of off. -

First I will answer your question about the Monster Ovals. I have a 1998 Tour Classic with an original 4 into 2 exhaust. I had original pipes and really wanted the Monster Ovals. Well, I installed them (an easy job- just a fabrication of a simple bracket since the fastening points are not the same). But,,,and I say but,,,,The sound was great to say the least, but leaning in the curves was now history with these pipes on. They sit much to low on the older Royal Stars and for me took all the fun out of riding my bike. Even a very modest lean at low speed would make them drag. Took them off and installed them on my Venture. Even on the Venture I drag them a little when doing max leaning. So my advice would be to forget about them for your bike. You could raise your bike in the back but still I would think that there would be a leaning issue. I will answer later today regarding the carb swap - at work at the moment : >) Be safe, Jonas / StarFan -

Hi there Rick I have carb covers for your bike. You can choose between my custom ones or the original ones. The original ones have some tiny schratches on them but I could polish them out. My custom ones that also fill the gap between the cylinders are new. Let me know your thoughts. Here is a picture of the custom ones I make. Friendly regards, Jonas / StarFan http://i1281.photobucket.com/albums/a501/jonaslill/Cylinder%20Chrome/SAM_3023_zpsqahe8ein.jpg

Hi there Nanci girl. Lets not talk tank bibs o.k. ? If, and I say if you decide to do this yourself then I just want to point out a couple of things regarding taking the cover off and putting it on again: 1. You need to buy a new gasket - don´t even think about skipping that step you hear ! 2. Make no mistake that the old gasket will rip and parts of it or most of it will be melted solid to the cover and the casing. These need to be thoroughly cleaned off. 3. To clean these old gasket debris off it has served me best to warm them up with a heat gun and then very carefully scrape them off with a razor sharp wood chissel. 4. Make sure that none of the gasket debris goes into the casing when cleaning that part (close it with a rag or something). 5. The chancing of the parts has been for me the least work and it is very simple,, just make SURE to tighten all the bolts you undo according to specs and note that some of these have a surprisingly low torque. When and if you decide to do this I can guide you through the process on SKYPE or by any means you wish. I could also send you pictures of the dismantle process to get you started and then SkYPE when you put everything back together. (Just make sure not to get your hands to dirty before you work on my cover thingies) And rest assure this is a simple thing to do and anybody can do this. All the best from STUPID Norway, Jonas the late Bib designer (I will get to it,,,just relax )

Signed sealed and delivered. I am told that Greta is smiling so wide that one can see her wisdom teeth while standing behind her. What a drag not being in Iceland to have a look. Well,,,,two weeks from now they will pick me up at the airport and they better use the new aquired jeep. Has most of the available options apart from rear view camera, like DVD, power seats, sunroof, leather and the list goes on and on,,,,,,,,,,, 3.897 KM = 2.420 MILES Here are some photos.
