  1. First you slide the bolt through the rear arm. then you install a washer between the rear arm and the brake caliper bracket and continue pushing the axle throught the bracket and into the wheel. Make sure that you have the collar inserted inside the wheel. Then you simply push it through and put a washer before the final nut. Have a look at the picture. It should show you how this is supposed to be.
  2. You should only have to remove the right side muffler to get the rear wheel off. I just did this recently and did not change the gaskets on got no leaks. This depends though on the conditions of the gaskets. Have a look at them and if they look torn bad in any way then replace them. You can also just reuse them and start the bike up and check if you have leaks. It only takes about ten minutes to install the muffler so if it leaks it is not a big deal getting new gaskets and replacing them..
  3. Don! I only have one advice - DON´T DO IT. I´ve been there and made some good money and lost some but I played by the rule of selling when I was down 10% and when I was up 20% - at all times. But it was to stressful. I have my money secured with rather low interest but I sleep like a baby. A good nights sleep is worth a lot. And like someone said here above - Don´t invest more than you are willing and you can afford to loose.
  4. Now Waterbug. This tells me it is a must for you to come to Don´s Maintenance Day 6th. of June. Bring a list of "How To" and we will set you straight. You might even get some cheesecake from the ladies.
  5. No, it will not tip over to the front. I recently had to put a new rear fender on my bike and the bike was perfectly stable on the adapter. It is though a good idea to strap the bike down to the jack, if not for anything else than feeling better/more secure. And like others have said then this is the time to grease the drive pins and the splines. I even took the drive shaft out and greased it also. Just start by jacking up the bike and secure it with straps and then remove the saddlebags, mufflers and the saddlebag/muffler support frame. Then everything is in the open and you can give the bike a thorough service/grease in the rear. Just remember to go by the service manual when adjusting the drive shaft. There is a tech article on this forum on how to do this. Good luck.
  6. Sorry, I forgot to mention that it is a Tour Classic 1998. No AIS on these.
  7. Right Squeeze. Friction plates is the word. That is exactly what went wrong with this police bike here in Iceland.
  8. If the former owner did ride the bike like a slow Harley in low RPM´s then you might need to change the clutch. These bikes need to be driven up to a healthy RPM in every gear. Do it the other way around and the clutch will not last very long. The police here in Reykjavik, Iceland had a Venture and they fried the clutch every 7.000 miles. They rode it like the Harleys they had and simply did not know how to use this bike. They sold it because of this but never speculated on why this was happening. Now they are riding Yamaha crotch rockets as well as their old Harleys. Some people just don´t know when they got something good in their hands. So my guess is that your clutch is gone - Sorry - but I hope I am wrong.
  9. The previous owner of my bike had removed the silencers completely. The bike has a very nice rumble that is not to loud but all my friends as well as I love it. The only downside is that it pops a little when decelerating. Don´t know how to fix it - maybe changing the jet size?
  10. You gotta pay double when you have wind dropping your bike!
  11. My company is thinking about sending me to Greenland of all places. And I am supposed to stay for a month and then two weeks at home. The schedule will start after Easter and last till late October. So I had a talk with the boss regarding my trip to MD Day. Told him I would of cause go to Greenland BUT,,,, There was no way I could be there from 28th. of May till 12th. of June. Was going on a bike trip to USA. And he said no problem. The schedule is that I will be back the 28th. of May and head out to Greenland again the 13th. of June the morning after I come home from USA. Then I had to break the news to my wife. She simply said: O.K. this means we will hardly see you for around two and a half months? Just go ahead,,,,,,you are not that much fun to have around anyways,,,,,,and then she giggled and gave me a big kiss. Made me promise though to take her on a weekend trip to Copenhagen later this year and that I will happily do. Boy do I love this girl,,,,,
  12. Coming to meet you and the girls at Don´s MD day in June. Don´t think the warden will award me with more trips to the US this year. Maybe again next year. Then of cause some riding here in Iceland.
  13. OOOOhhhhh ! Hope the bike did not get damaged !
  14. There is one with three Pond Monsters in one shot. Unbelieveable picture with solid proof of the monsters. I would submit that one if I were you.
  15. Now Shooter ! You know the rules! Gotta post some pictures!
  16. Then get yourself some Icelandic beer,,,,,,,,,, It will take the shakes out after riding your new power machine,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
  17. Well,,,,,,, First I read the post by Squeeze where he was officially declaring his withdrawal from VR.org and my heart started acting funny. Then before I scrolled down I went to the home page and read the first lines of Don´s post,,,,,,,,,, Now the paramedics are on their way with the jumping cables,,,,,,,,,,,, While waiting for the paramedics I am calling the airline company and booking a flight to German Land and am going to pay Squeeze a visit and as well as bring some Icelandic beer so he can have a real beer for once in his life. When I return I will take a short trip to USA, Oberlin Ohio and give Don a bath with the Pond Monsters. These guys are one mean pair !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  18. Awesome bike Squeeze! And I don´t think it is ugly at all. It looks exactly as a power machine should look like. The only thing I don´t like about it is the "out of touch" brown color on the covers. The guy who designed it must have been color blind. Now take it easy while you are getting a feel for the bike. As with any new bike it takes a while to get to know the performance and how it handles all the way through. So take your time and please be careful. No ghost riding you hear or I will pay you a visit and detune this thing. If you feel it has to much power then I am willing to swap the carbs and the camshafts from my 1998 Royal Star - just because I am your friend. Congrats - I am very happy for you.
  19. Yeh Don. This was terrible. It lasted for over three minutes. This can simply not happen again Don. You gotta keep your act together. Keeping us in the dark for three minutes Don ! How could you?
  20. Waterbug is taking the room so it´s gone. But rumour tells that there is still some availability at the Oberlin Inn. So give them a call and check it out and post info for others who might need a room.
  21. I have offered Waterbug to take over my booking at the Oberlin Inn since I will be staying at another place. Still have not canceled my booking though and if Waterbug will not take it then any of you are welcome to it. When the Boogeyman goes to sleep every night, he checks his closet for StarFan the Viking.
  22. No harm meant Lewis. I would back you up on your USA products here in Iceland if we wouldn´t be practically a bankrupt nation at the moment. But promise I will stick to USA made when I visit you guys the coming spring for Freebirds MD. Stay cool. StarFan the Viking can sneeze with his eyes open!
  23. Well, have to say that this place would be a little dull without Squeeze. Hope all is going well for you Squeeze and that we will meet in 2010 if all goes well for both of us. Cheers! StarFan the Viking has a dog that picks up his own poop. Thats because StarFan the Viking does not take sh*t from anybody!
  24. Ahhhh,, Squeeze ! Getting soft in your older days ! Would have expected this to be "few". StarFan the Viking does not turn the light on when coming into a room. StarFan the Viking shuts the dark off !
  25. I agree! But motorcyclevice - just could not get myself to buy a Harley - Simply love my Yamaha.
