The Old Canary is right ! Yamaha started production of the Royal Star in 1996 and the last prod.year was 2001. In 1999 they added the Venture that is still being produced. The Second Gen Royal Star (not the Venture) was then updated and came from the factory in 2005. He has a Tour Deluxe/Boulevard/Tour Classic with 28mm Mikuni carbs and smaller cams. Apart from that the engine is pretty much the same. The carbs might though sit a little higher though. With the right attitude I think that this is not such a problematic thing to do. But why not find an engine from the 1996 to 2001 models. That would be a direct swap.

Wanting to put an RSV trunk on my RSTD
StarFan replied to canadad's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Hi Ken. The support bracket and the trunk, regardless of year (from 1999 to present) will fit together. These items have not been updated by any means. Fitting the trunk and support bracket to your bike is not going to be a problem. You might have to drill one hole in your fender chrome rail for the trunk support bracket and thats it. I am in the process of having this installed on my 1998 Royal Star Tour Classic. You are right about the cost of the trunks and most of them come from Pinwall Cycles in Ohio. The problem has been that they dismantle them and sell them almost piece by piece but I have recently seen them selling the whole unit as one on eBay. Be aware of trunks that need a lot of work or need some new parts. The cost can go up pretty fast if you have extensive repair and parts to buy on top of that. Wish you well with your project. Friendly regards, Jonas -
Forgot it the 29th. of October here in Norway. Lost my flight in Oslo. Had to stay the night. Nice bar and a nice restaurant though. Not looking forward to meet my boss next Monday. Well - it is gonna be O.K. He did the same thing last year

Thanks Jeff. I won´t be back in Iceland until the 16th. but that weekend I will start checking this out. Weather I find the problem or not I will revoke this thread and update the results. Many thanks for the input. Ride safe. Jonas

True - so true and thanks for the info. I have a spare battery and will have to change the old one if it is not holding voltage. Easy to measure so that will be my first start. Guess I will then take a look at the headlight connections and secure that everything is in order. Headlight switch since (I forgot to mention) the blue indicator light for the high beam flickers when this happens. If nothing of the above seems malfunctioning then the stator is next on the list. Would this be logical Friendly regards from Iceland,

Sorry pal. Forgot to think about Kim´s wellness. Testicles in the post next week Jonas

That was valuable information Joe - Thank you. I will check this out as soon I get home from this freezing country (Norway) I am staying in at the moment. I also have a Venture in the States, a 2000 model in pretty good shape with only 30.000 miles on it. Have you had any other issues with your Venture that you would like to share. Craig (cecdoo) stores the bike for me and he just loves working on it for me since I am going to send him a pound of Shark meat for every two hours he puts in :hihi: Thanks Joe and ride safe - Hope to see you next summer at BigToms Rally in Chaffee NY. Jonas

Vicky still smiling Tom ?

So sorry dear friend. Had no idea that this could actually be the blinkers. I will rip them apart and fill them with blinker fluid as soon as I get back home from "Stupid Norway" ! As for the shark then I will take that horrible thing off the menu. I will put ram testicles instead - you´ll love them ! At least when BigTom was here last summer he ate them like Icecream after I told him that it would boost up his S#x drive tremendously. Was stuffing himself like a French Duck
-
Seems like you two guys are pushing your luck. Craig my friend - You will have shark for breakfast, for lunch and for dinner when you come over the coming summer:rasberry:. Kim will of cause have whatever she asks for. No help from BigTom - only trying to stay safe so I wont take the V-Maxed bike away from him. What a friend ! Earl will get a PM from me since he is the only one showing intrest in my trouble - And note, he is still willing to help me even though Jean is still talking Icelandic from my last visit. Now go wax the bike Tom ! And Craig - You just start looking forward to the shark meat. With love and respect, Jonas

Now first I want to make it very clear that my knowledge when it comes to electircity is pretty much limited with the fact that I know it hurts to touch it and it takes a plus and a minus to make the light come on. But my Royal Star Tour Classic 1998 in Iceland has started to flicker the headlights. They don´t go off completely, they just kind of go low and high when riding the bike. When idling they are quite o.k. I don´t know if it has anything to do with it but last night (yes, there is still riding season in Iceland) I pulled into a gas station and filled the bike up, and when I tried to start it up again the batteri was almost dead and did not manage to turn the motor over enough to start it. The battery is four years old so that is shot for sure. Could any of the following be the reason: Maybe some loose connections ? Switch to be cleaned ? Stator going bad? If any of you guys have experienced this or have any idea what could cause this then please chime in. Jonas - who is scared sh#*!#ess of electricity after peeing on an electric fence in his youth - NO !!! I don´t wanna talk about it)
-
Anytime Bob, anytime. If you can pry the keys from BigTom you are welcome to take a ride. If not then you will have to await my arrival coming summer. Ride safe Bob and all the best to Becky.

Good man you are Big Tom !

What was the blue word again - hard to read !

TOM !!! That bike is going to the basement you hear. Cut a hole in the floor and lower it down and chain it to the concrete floor. Make sure Vicky is safe - A hurricane couldn´t blow you away Big Guy ! Be safe my friend. Jonas

Tom. When looking at the pictures it looks like the brakelines are pretty close to the fender.. Are they rubbing against the fender ?
-
I would never kid about such thing Don !
-
It was boxed and shipped to Iceland. Sits right beside my redvine collection in a crystal bowl !
-
No wax - No ride !
-
Tom ! You put to much load on the Ice and it breaks,,,and you will get very cold No get off your butt and polish my bike. And make sure you get to all the crampy places ! If you get it all nice and shiny I might let you take it to work. Seriously,,,Thanks for getting the bike Tom and for all your help Jonas

Well, since I live in Iceland I obviously have had some things shipped over here from the States. Would be kind of funny to complain about the Icelandic custom fees to the guys who sold me my motorcycles How in the world could someone from USA know about the custom tariff in for example Iceland. Bottom line is: The buyer is ALWAYS responsible for custom fees. The only bad thing about quite many eBay sellers is that they purposely overcharge on shipping fees. The buyer can of cause check the postal fees before making a bid but I personally think that this is kind of ruthless. One is selling a product - not auctioning postal charges so to speak. Would never pay 60 US$ for shipping of pair brakepads to Iceland.

Congratulations to you and Jean on your new house. Looks great and I am sure that this roomy garage was the carrot Ride safe Earl and give my best to Jean (she still speaking Icelandic ? ) Friendly regards from Jonas
