With the accessories you have it is a Royal Star Tour Classic 1996 or 1997
-
High up on the right side where the fork goes through the frame (in front of the gas tank right side) there should be a sticker with the serial numer. There is another one on the right side kind of just above the radiator on the frame. There you should see month and year like 02/97 or something like that. At least that is how it is on my 1998 Tour Classic. The serial number will actually tell you what year it is. The tenth character in the VIN number will do that: 1995(S), 1996(T), 1997(V), 1998(W), Soooo,,,,If your bike is a 1997 the tenth character is V For 1996 it is T

No mechanical difference except that Yamaha added/introduced the TourDeluxe in 1997 that has a exhaust setup of 4 to 2. Other differences were hard ABS hard saddlebags on the TourDeluxe. Actually the same bike till end of production in 2001 - only some small changes like relocation of the ignition switch and so forth. Great Looking BIKE ! !

Done ! Lets do it guys and girls ! Every dollar counts !

Nice bike Craig. I really like these older Royal Stars. You should check the manufacturer sticker on the bike. It states the year and month the bike rolled of the factory assembly line. If this is the original color then this bike is a 1996 model. This color was not available officially in 1997 - only in 1996. There are some bikes around with colors not officially advertised for the bikes year and most likely these are bikes that Yamaha used parts from the previous year if they were overstocked with fenders, gastanks and so forth. Not that any of this really matters if the bike is good. Just my opinion that it is good to know exactly what one has. Ride safe,

This applies to the 1996 to 2001 Royal Star but not the Venture. 1996-2001 Royal star 28mm carb 1999-2013 Royal Star Venture 32mm carb

Send Earl Harrell (skydoc_17) a pm and he will get you straight -
Well in Iceland they are scarce to say the least. Have a friend at the Department of motor vehicles and last time he checked there were only nine Ventures registered in Iceland. And I have one of them so there are only eight left scattered around the Island. Rarely see one. Kind of a nice to have a bike here that not many have.

Thank you. The end was beautiful and touched my heart

Well Bobby my friend ! I read a little about it and fortunately it is fed by a cafeteria waste to make things happen. But you can imagine how shaky I got when I was trying to figure out how this thing would hook up Just finished half of the six pack and am now able to hold the glass with two hands without spilling. Threw the straw away just now. Look forward to see you in August at Toms rally Give Becky a big Icelandic hug from me and rest assure that I will bring some Black Death for you and the guys You wont need any crap machine after swallowing a couple of shots of that famous grease cleaner while chewing on the rotten shark I am gonna bring It is actually delicious - ask BIG TOM - HE LOVED THE SHARK AND JUST COULD NOT GET ENOUGH OF IT !!!!!!! Just don´t bet on Becky wanting to kiss you for a week afterwards

Man,,,I gotta remember to put my glasses on when reading the threads. Did not have my glasses on and started reading this thread. A CRAP Machine ?? What in the world is that I thought - and it makes one sleep better ??? Seems like a lot of the members have one and are speaking so freely about it ?? Decided to go to google.com -> pictures and search for a crap machine to try to figure out what this was all about. And this is what I found: Cloaca No. 5 is very similar to Chanel No. 5, the perfume. One smells like crap, the other is a machine that actually dumps on command. It’s a “mechanized sculpture” that reproduces the human digestive system in every detail. The end result is just like you and me, the machine produces feces, only when it pinches a loaf it comes out vacuum-packed. Yeah, a machine that poos. There’s another thing a robot does better then humans. It’s part of an exhibition that’s open until valentine’s day in the universite du quebec’s art, Montreal. Cloaca is made of steel, rubber and glass . Man I was in complete shock ! That is one monstreus thing and they keep it in their bedrooms Was wondering if Big Tom has one since I know he has a machine that makes him sleep better. Started getting very nervous since I am visiting Tom the coming August and was wondering if he would put me in the room with that monster of a machine and order me to use it freely to make sure I would get a good nights sleep Had serious trauma when I started wondering how this machine works :shock3: and how you hook it up Decided to read on and finally my glasses came through and the sun rose again: CPAP Machine,,,Phewww,,,What a relief (so to speak),,,,,,,, Am gonna swallow the six pack I have in the fridge and try to get my hands to stop shaking !! Sleep tight !

Yeh, thats what I thought - The splines and hub. I do that every year and the bike is silent as a ,,,uhhhh,,,Lamb ? (english is not my native language )
-
You mean the splines ? The axle bolt ? Just wondering what caused it on your bike.
-
Well, I would not remove the filter for sure. I would loosen the drainplug (bolt) to let all the oil out and drain it into a clean container and then just pour the right amount in. That way you can use the same oil again. I´ve tried once removing the drain bolt to tap a little off the engine and got a 3/4 gallon on my garage floor . The oil was hot and I could not get the bolt in again and my drain pan got pushed to the side. From that incident I fill it with + 1/2 a gallon and then run the bike untill the oil is hot. Then I just add a little at a time untill I am satisfied with the reading on the glass. There might be other ways to do this that I am not familiar with and I am sure somebody else will chime in. Many of us have overfilled but I think one only does that once Good luck and keep the rags at hand

Using a used rotor from a damaged bike is in my eyes risky business. Would never take the chance - you can wind up with a deformed dish and find out at a critical moment. Brakeparts I would always buy new. Of cause you can get lucky and get a part that is O.K. but the risk is to high in my eyes.

I have a Garmin Zumo 550 and am using it on two different bikes with two different power hookups. On my bike in Iceland I have it hooked up straight from the battery with a fuse between the Garmin and the battery. Made a waterproof plug on the cord so I can just unplug it to use it on my other bike (my USA Venture). On the USA Venture I just use the cigarette lighter plug. Been doing this since 2008 on the Icelandic bike and from 2011 on the USA bike and never had a problem. Am I doing something wrong that can harm the Garmin device ? Would think though the Garmin would be shot now if this is a damaging setup. Any advice/guidance would be apreciated since I am not very electrical oriented so to speak.

Make sure to measure the thickness of your disks when you do the upgrade to know where you are at ! With 125.000 km and quite a slip these might be to worn. Original thickness = 3,0 mm Replace at= 2,8 mm -
High Beam problem
StarFan replied to Duck's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Hi Duck. Had the same problem. Was absolutely sure it was a loose wire or a somekind of a bad connection. Tried everything but it was not untill my son pointed out to me that maybe I had a bad bulb that the problem was fixed. The bulb was just giving inn, causing exactly this. Have a look at a thread I wrote about this: http://venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=74172&highlight=flickering+headlights I do though believe that you have a bad connection or something similiar since you have changed out the bulb. -
Rhonda is referring to the "Brick and Pond" remarks I would guess ! Not the original post.

Trip to Europe ? That sounds exciting. May I ask where you are going ? Friendly regards, Jonas

Squidley. Check if both the springs that are in the synchronizing screw mechanism are in place. Have once lost one of these and that made the bike act pretty much the same to your description. Cold cylinder and running like cr#p. Took me days to figure that one out . If you have a missing spring then make sure to put it in the right side of the plate - don´t ask me how I know Picture attached. Wish you luck - you will figure this out I am sure. Friendly regards from Iceland, Jonas
