A first Gen rack will not fit a 2nd Gen without extensive modifications. Totally different than the 2nd Gen rack. On the other hand a 2nd Gen rack will fit all 1998 to 2001 Yamaha Royal Stars without any modifications if one wants to add a trunk. It will not fit the 1996 model but will fit all 1997 models that have original hard sidebag setup. The 1997 soft sidebag setup wil not accept it without modifications.

Right on. Have had the same issue - in my case it was a bad bulb. Me and bad bulbs often run into each other so to speak. In your case could be either of the two. Good luck with this, Jonas / StarFan

Lets not speculate on that one - Lets just see how it goes. Personally I have no doubts. I am sure they are a bunch of real man - not a sewing club like,,,,,,,never mind !

Greetings fellow Venturers. As some of you might now I rebuilt a salvage Millenium this past winter and sold it. The person who bought it had the ignition switch fail after having the bike for three days. Bought and sent him a new one but he is still having some electrical problems with it. Here below is his description of the problem. Hope that some of you guys have had a similiar issue or would know what could be the cause of this. any help and any advice very much apreciated. : Electric trouble Yamaha Royal Star Venture 1300 2000 1. First time it happened I switched the ignition on and the meters didn’t start up but the radio came on. If I turned the key 1-2 mm back counterclockwise the meters came in and I could start. This happened several times. Then I sprayed WD40 into the switch and it was ok after that. Now I was going to four weeks tour in Sweden with my wife on the bike. I did not trust the switch so I made a By Pass switch to the Red and Brown wire in the pink Plug under the tank. (Found by Jonas at the internet) 2. The second day in the tour it happened again and nothing works. Then I turned on the switch, connect the By Pass and the motor started. That works for about next two weeks. 3. NEW TROUBLE. I turned the switch off, disconnected the by pass and took the key out. The lights where still on! To fix this the rest of the tour I cut the wire to four fuses in the fuse box. (Head lights, turn lights, Ignition, Fan.) and put a switch there . The backup fuse was still live. The by pass switch was now out of order because everything was on. I thought at this moment the contact in the switch was burned together. This was (ok) for about four days. Fourth morning the battery was empty so I got start from a car. Next about 800km in the way home and two nights in the ship was the battery ok. Then I ride 300 km from the ship to home. First morning at home the battery was dead and every day after that so I charged it every night. Jonas ordered a new ignition switch when I was in the tour and I have replaced it but this second Trouble is still there – when I turn the ignition switch off the lights are still on and the fuel pump. I disconnected the red and brown wire to the new switch and that makes no different. Now I have put a main switch to the negative pole so I can ride every day without trouble. But the trouble is still there. When I connect the main switch the lights come on and the fuel pump. If you can help me resolve this problem I would be very grateful. Best regards, Svavar Tulinius / Jonas StarFan

I have oil in my coolant!
StarFan replied to mbelik's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Actually all Royal Stars from 1996 to 2013 have these plugs. There is no way that oil gets in through there to the coolant. -
I have a luggage rack from a 1998 Tour Classic. It is in Alden NY. You could have that for half price - looks pretty much like new ! Jonas / StarFan

This is a mans world ! What is it with you guys. Bunch of ol ladies ! Any kid in Iceland has had at least a pound of Shark Meat when turning six years old ! Such a pleasure meeting you all and having fun with you. And greatest thanks to Big Tom and Vicky for having me in their home and for getting us all together and making this rallie come true as well as the nice people at Pioneer Motorsports Michelle and Terry for all they did to make this rally come true and for saving me from enjoying Toms snoring for a night, their sons Chad and Kyle and all the staff. Anybody had this electrical problem on their Venture ???
StarFan replied to StarFan's topic in Watering Hole
Thanks Bob. I will have him do that and report back. He and the bike are in Iceland but I am in Norway at the moment. -
Greetings fellow Venture riders. Have an electrical problem that I was wondering if any of you were familiar with or would have any suggestions regarding what might cause it. I bought a Millenium Venture from an insurance company here in Iceland and rebuilt it last winter. After rebuilding it (cosmetic issues) I rode it somewhere around 200 miles, shorter trips around 20 miles each time. Started right up and was purring like a kitten. The guy who bought it complained that on his third day of ownership the ignition switch started to act funny. He would have to wiggle the key to have it make contact and sometimes this would take some time to get it to engage. Well, being an honest guy I ordered another ignition switch an sent to him. In the mean time he did the bypass on the switch since he was going on a trip to Sweden with the bike. Worked just fine for two weeks then at a stop he turned the switch off but the lights and the fuel pump still were running. He had to pull the fuses to shut the power off. When he came back home to Iceland with the bike I sent him the new ignition switch that he installed but still had this shut down proplem with the lights and fuel pump running. I knew that the ignition switch was not gonna fix that but at least there is no wiggling the key anymore and the switch works as it should. Would any of you have any idea what might cause the lights and fuel pump to still be running after you switch the key off ??? The first thing that came to my mind was a stuck relay. What do you guys think ? Any ideas ? Any and all suggestions would be apreciated. Friendly regards from Iceland, Jonas / StarFan

Quote from Skydoc_17 when he was advicing me when I was having this mod done on my 1998 Tour Classic / same motor as yours : Here's the scoop on the differences in the parts between your bike and the VMAX and the MKII VR: Your bike's REV Limiter shuts your bike off at 6500 RPMS. The VMAX's RED LINE is 9000 RPMS but it reaches MAX TORQUE at 7500 RPMS. The MKII VR's RED LINE is 8000 RPMS. My thinking is if we can get your motor to REV to 8000 RPMS without valve float you will be into those VMAX Cams for full torque, any higher RPMS than that is just noise and engine wear. Your bike uses a single spring on the valves and there is NO WAY you will be able to use ANY of the springs, spring seats, keepers, or spring retainers. (the metal is too soft and won't handle the higher RPMS) Here is a list of the parts that will need to be replaced if you want to run double springs on your stock valves for the VMAX Cams. 3 SEAT,VALVE SPRING 26H-12116-00-00 16 pc. SPRING,VALVE INNER 36Y-12113-00-00 16 pc. SPRING,VALVE OUTER 36Y-12114-00-00 16 pc. SEAL,VALVE STEM 51Y-12119-00-00 16 pc. RETAINER,VALVE SPR 30X-12117-00-00 16 pc. COTTER,VALVE 30X-12118-00-00 32 pc. LOCK, VALVE SPRING RETAINER "Quote ended"" There are some people in the club that have had this done or done it themselves and I am one of them that had this done. Have not had the chance to ride the bike myself after this was finalised since I live in Iceland and keep the bike in USA. But my friend Big Tom in Alden NY keeps my bike and rides it around from time to time and he says that he wakes up every morning with this big grin on his face that he just can´t get rid off. Has had it ever since he took the first ride. But the gas milage is pretty scary he says. He takes it on the interstate for work and has not used the fourth gear till now even though the bike has the V-Max rear.

No worries. Most of us plan to be here for the next 5 to six years Regarding the key cylinder for the gas tank then under normal circumstances it should turn without any effort. Most likely the cylinder has collected moisture and dirt over the years and is therefore stuck. Try spraying some rust resolver into the keyhole. Try to get something else than WD40 since that stuff dries up pretty quick. You need something that will stay in there for some time. Let it sit for an hour and then insert the key and very carefully wiggle it right and left and see if the cylinder gives. If it does not work then spray some more into the cylinder and let it sit for a night. Repeat the process for two or three days before giving up Also, grab the gas cap by your hand and try to wiggle it a little bit to the sides and see if it moves. The "hooks" or whatever one should call it that the cylinder draws in to release the cap could also be stuck to the grooves in the filler neck and therefore not letting the cylinder turn. Mental note: Giving up is not an option My first bike was a 1998 1100cc Virago. Man that bike was fun. Still regret that I sold it.

We took Craig and Kim to the airport this morning and the goodbye was difficult. We just didn´t want them to leave after spending 13 nice days with them roaming around South Iceland. Craig only took around 1000 pictures using his iPad (We call that thing BOB) and promised to post them all on the VR.Forum. We would like to thank them for taking the time visiting us and spending their vacation with us. We sure had a great time and I look very much forward to seeing them again in the coming August in the US of A. Just a note of caution: If you ever hear Craig or Kim say: OUUHHHH,,,,,then you are in trouble
-
No. no. no,,,, you got it all wrong ! You are seeing my hand in the front. Craig´s hand is behind me. He is patting me on the behi,,,, Never mind,,,,, We will let this one stay in Iceland !
