final drive question
StarFan replied to Chris M's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
You will need to mill out a hole for the speedo sensor and plug the other one (see picture below). If I remember right you can get a ready made one for around 300 US$ at Sportmax in PA, / John Furbur if you trade your original one in. http://i1281.photobucket.com/albums/a501/jonaslill/Finaldrive_zps827b8070.jpg -
Have been thinking about ordering these. But I have a trailer hitch mounted that I recently had to take off on put on again. Dang that was not an easy thing to do. Saving up the courage to order this mudflap and get this project in line. Really nice product to say the least. Wondering if she offers colour combinations !

Well here is my water heating system. Sure hope I don´t have to reinstall it in my life I actually worked on building this with my former company. This looks really cool. Have this kind of a light bar on my bike installed by a previous owner. Never knew it was a Harley thingie. Really like it for the brightness of lights and added security. Keep on blinging !

1. Yes, they were detuned with smaller carbs, the 28mm Mikuni and also they do not have a counterbalancer. I installed the 32mm carb from the Venture - there is not space for a bigger one unless you have one custom made. 2. Yes, the stock heads are used - This is almost a bolt on project with some simple and minor customizing to do. 3. The valves are fine but you have to put in stiffer springs. 4. No, not quite all the way - Don´t want them valves to float. I have mine adjusted at 7.000 rpm but am told that 7.500 is O.K. but I am fine with 7.000. Don´t need no more RPM´s. Have not ridden the bike much since I live in Iceland and I keep the bike at Big Toms place in NY state. Try to come over every year to do some riding and am coming to Toms Rally in August. Here are some more pictures below: http://i1281.photobucket.com/albums/a501/jonaslill/SAM_1525_zpsae2d0e9e.jpg http://i1281.photobucket.com/albums/a501/jonaslill/SAM_1520_zps4b3e5014.jpg

Hei Cowpuc. It is actually a 1998 Tour Classic II. It has a upgraded motor with v-max cams and bigger carbs, Dyna ignition module, v-max drive and so forth. Bigger brake master cylinder, upgraded clutch and the list goes on and on. Extremely powerful and fun to ride - lets not talk about gas mileage Also added the Venture trunk and had it painted to match the bikes colour. Future add ons are hard saddlebags and more chrome,,,,a lots of chrome,,,,I love CHROME ! The Red Mistress (a former Millenium bike) I bought from an insurance company with some cosmetic damages and went for the Red colour. Sold it instantly after rebuild. Bought another one (pictured here below) that I am currently customizing a little and it is also RED - I love these RED bikes.

I do agree but like to add that all the Royal Stars photograph very nicely. From almost any angle. http://i1281.photobucket.com/albums/a501/jonaslill/Yamaha%20Venture%20Millenium%202000/8_zps337a247f.jpg http://i1281.photobucket.com/albums/a501/jonaslill/SAM_1521_zpsaaea0cc1.jpg

You gotta be kidding me ! Well it is a cool bike though in many ways with the retro look and all but not the Venture ball game that we are all waiting for. I sincerely hope that Yamaha will display a new big cruiser for the year of 2015 with all the whistles we would like to have. It sure is abut time for that. Still, I would keep my Red Baron since I simply adore the Venture and think it is such a great bike. Actually it is the best bike I have ever owned and nothing will ever replace that for me. Lets see what happens in 2015 like we have been doing the last 5 years or so

Happy birthday ol birdie And have a nice one today as all the onthers to come.

That´s interesting. Had been speculating on how to avoid seeint the bulb dots and also if there was an alternative in material, using something else than Plexiglass. I will give this a try and see how it looks.

Yukk !!!! Dang Bobby boy ! Thought for a while you were referring to my Chrome Thread ! Phewww,,,,, I still like you and will bring you the ugly deadly black stuff in August
-
No skulls Boomer ! My Red Baron does not like dead bodys. Jonas who sayz zkullzz should be wrapped with flesh - and neeked women are hard to service while driving daz Baron !!
-
They will be laser cut all the way through so I can put a coloured glass behind and some LED lights to light it up. Might even make an extra hookup to the turn signals just for fun and see how it turns out

First of all this is just a rough template. My thoughts are that it is a little to wide in the top. I will make them not so wide and the will shoot upwards to the gastank in a line from the cylinder covers. There will be a cutout for the throttle adjustment knob as well as the Choke nob. The template I purposely made to go under the gastank just to keep it in place. The height will be the same as the small carburator cover one Yamaha makes that is inthe picture below..Note that it will also have to have a break (bend) in it like the Yamaha cover since there is a different angle on the carbs than the cylinders. I think that the bend (break) will make this look whole different - like braking it up into two pieces. I will make a precise template in the coming days and post again. I also think that when I have cut out the inscription V4 in the bottom and in this case RED BARON on the upper part where the V4 is in the picture, as well as putting plexiglass behind and light this thing up, this will look a whole kind of a different piece. The template looks very flat and monotonius and I think that will all chance when it is finalised with the above mentioned. The second picture below shows it a little better but note that I also plan to make it a little narrower than the template is. Asthetically placed louvers in line with the fins is a great idea but I will see how that works out when I have made a precise template with the V4 and RED BARON cutouts - to see if it is to much. Keep them ideas coming - The prototype is going to cost an arm and a leg and I want to get it as good as possible the first time if possible. I´ll post the finalised template as soon as I have gotten it done - but need a little bit of time for that. The left side is pretty much the same - only difference if I remember right is the cutout for the Choke but that is an easy design and least of my worries. I will make a precise DWG drawing when the design is finalised and approved by the manufacturer of this piece. Last, I have no worries about airflow for the engine. The liquid takes care of that and on top of that there is air flowing from other openings all around. If colling the engine was a problem Yamaha would never have put the fake fins on the outside of the cylinder case. http://i1281.photobucket.com/albums/a501/jonaslill/Technical/SAM_2194_zpsc975bf70.jpg http://i1281.photobucket.com/albums/a501/jonaslill/Technical/SAM_2200_zpsc8e80543.jpg

I have been speculating for quite some time to design and have a prototype made for the gap between the -V-cylinders on the sides of the bike. The only accessory available is the flat carb cover and that little cover that goes to the bottom of the -V-. The gap between is unattended. Yesterday I went to a metal shop that has a sophisticated laser cutter and bending machines, to have a template made for a brakelight. Had a discussion with the owner and have to say that the possibilities are practically limitless. Last night I made a rough template to see how this would look and get the general feel for it. Want to change some things in the design but will keep most of that for myself for now and would like to hear what you guys think and what changes you would make if any. I will tell you though that the V4 inscription I intend to move to the bottom part of the shield and have the Yamaha Star logo where the V4 is. These will be cut through the metal with laser, coloured plexiglasds on the inside and lit up with LED lights - any colour possible and any script could be laser cut out like "your name" etc,,,,, Here below is a picture of the template. A prototype will be made in the weeks to come and I will post when it is ready and installed on bike. But give me at least 4 to 6 weeks since I work abroad and am not to much at home. So get the design ideas flowing and tell me what you think. http://i1281.photobucket.com/albums/a501/jonaslill/Technical/SAM_2199_zps13e3df24.jpg http://i1281.photobucket.com/albums/a501/jonaslill/Technical/SAM_2201_zps313e8a06.jpg

Splitting the fairling
StarFan replied to alwrmcusn's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
They are size 5 mm Just did mine and like I said - This is no big task splitting the fairing and never could understand all the fuzzzzz about it. I have the light bar installed and have to take it out of the way but from start till fairing is split is only 15 minutes Max. -
Splitting the fairling

It is possible to change the bulb without splitting the fairing if you have tiny hands and some patience. You can reach it through the opening where the height adjustment knob for the headlight is situated, you just need to slide the knob off to get it out of the way. But splitting the fairing is an easy task but note that if you have added the driving lights you will have to loosen them and get them out of the way to be able to get the fairing off since they are to close to the fairing. If you do that make sure to put a thick towel or a blanket on the front fender to protect it. Still it is an easy job to split the fairing and it takes about 15 minutes to take the fairing off if you have all the right tools at hand. I just did this today since I am getting the speaker covers in the fairing custom painted and needed to get them off the fairing. My opinion - just do it and you will not look at it as a big job once you have done it once. Believe me - it is very easy to do.
