  1. Hi Jack! You the one who looked at my gold 1st gen in North Hill 2-3 years ago? Have a friend hold a couple rags to pressurize the exhaust, follow the hissing!
  2. I have used the Morgan Carbtune and this one from sportingforless: http://www.sportingforless.com/servlet/the-317/Carburetor-Synchronizer-carb-sync/Detail The Carbtune is a nice compact tool, but the sportingforless setup has got it all in a nice carrying case. This also has restrictors built inline with the guage that smoothes out the needles. I now own one!
  3. Have fire extingusher handy! Soapy water is your best bet
  4. I have one on the rear of the '83 and like it so far. I also put a set of the 230's on the ZL1000 and wow the traction is un-believable! With the dunlops or metzelers on the ZL I could nail it in first and smoke the rear tire at will, now it will stand right up. Put 66 1/4mi runs at Dragway42 this summer and very little signs of wear. Nice thing is no burnout for tire warmup is needed, just stage and go! I bought mine through motorcyclesuperstore.com and Pinwall Cycle. I did have to send a front one back because it would have taken too much weight to balance it. I guess that can be expected from a cheap tire.
  5. I haven't seen one yet to know but it think it would be a nice upgrade if the parts were dirt cheap. For now I will just install the grease fittings on my original with the worn out bushings, at least that will get rid of the creaking Thanks for the reply!
  6. Hey guys,, will the newer '91-'93 mono shock linkage fit on my '83?
  7. I tried but gave up and ordered the muffler gaskets last week. Might have been my post you read recently

    Insurance cost

Finally, found a company that I can get agreed value on both my Kawasaki's. American Modern Home Insurance specializes in collectors insurance and by far has the best prices. I chose a policy with Agreed Values of $6000 for my ZL1000, $5000 for my ZL900 and $3500 for my XVZ1200. Since they are collectors bikes I had to choose how many miles I ride each bike each year. I could have chosen 1000 for the ZL's and 3000 for the XVZ but went with 3000 for all 3. Here's the meat: Liability limits of 100/300/50$500 deductible on collision at agreed value. $10,000 Medical payments. Uninsured Bodily injury 100/300Trip interruption coverage $150/600Nationwide roadside assistance All 3 bikes for $189 for the year! Thats even less than what I paid for Geico for Liability only!
  9. Yea that is a pretty good price, doesn't add up to all that much when I just need 2 but i'd rather not even spend that much! I'm gonna try the #10 copper wire trick I read elsewhere here and see how that works first!
  10. Got my used collector on today,,boy what fun! Went on easier than coming off. Leak tested and all is good, only thing I need now is gaskets for the mufflers, where's a good source for an un-employed individual such as me ????
  11. I would pull the idle air screw and flush with carb cleaner and compressed air before pulling the carbs again. The seafoam trick works pretty good too! Never spray flammable liquids to look for vacuum leaks, I learned this the hard way! Use WD40 or similiar!!
  12. I better go look for that bleeder!! Just cleaned out the rear brake caliper and bled the whole system, I'll bet there is still air!
  13. OH BOY,, mom used to make fried corn for us as kids and I haven't had it since,, thanks for the reminder!!! Chocolate pecan pie, cranberry relish, and turkey breast!
  14. I bought the manual 1000# one,, So far I like it. The only thing I didn't like is the factory wheel clamp. I want something that will hold a smaller front tire that can be used as backup in case of strap failure, so I will be making up these plates out of some sort of steel plating. I wanted to make them out of wood first just to see if it was capable of holding the bike upright on it's own...and it is!
  15. Lets see if I understand this correctly, You get 10 cells to make your adjustments, you can specify the rpm the cell is, so you want to make your first cell your no advance cell and the last cell the full advance cell, leaving you 8 cells to play with your advance curve?
  16. Wobble or hop? If you crank it up to 90mph does it hop real bad?
  17. Just checked the 150/90-V15 Shinko 230 Tourmaster on the back of my zl1000. It says load range B 992#. I assume the 140/90-V16 would be similiar?? At any rate i will run the Shinko and save a few $$
  18. No hurt at all except the almost heart attack of witnessing a golf cart running into my parked zl. Talk about blowing a gasket! I hear ya about the time slips! I go about 240# and am about 1 second slower than the original testing done by the magazines back when. Coming out of the hole isn't a problem though, 1.762 60' is my best so far. A venture running 11's???? I would have to see a timeslip for that one!
  19. Here's the rear Shinko Tourmaster 230 link. http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/3/31/401/6188/ITEM/Shinko-230-Tour-Master-Rear-Tire.aspx I'll be trying this rear tire as well on my 83 VR. I have a set on my 87 zl1000 and they perform very nice. Straight line traction and dragstrip launches on the big zl don't even require a burnout anymore!
  20. It sure is lots of fun!!! I've had mine out 4 times this year and get faster and more consistant each time out. Unfortunatly i'm done for the year because of a stupid person and a golf cart which happened last friday at the track. $2300 and counting in damages. 21. Well with IE7 you just right click on the bar and click "Use Large Icons". I hope this helps:thumbsup2:
  22. I have the Deka ETX15L. It came with a used Bike in '05 and is still going strong! I'll be buying more from East Penn for sure.
  23. Don't get fooled by the outragious claims of disk space and bandwidth when using shared hosting. You get what you pay for! I've had my web site with 3 different hosts over the past 2 years. Most of these Hosting companies do oversell hosting. The host I'm with now has been great and has a no oversell promise. Sure they cost a little more, and my disk and bandwidth quota's aren't as high, but at least now i'm getting fast page generations and no more vbulletin error emails(I'll bet don has had his share of these!). Most of all the tech support is actually helpful! Keep in mind, if you don't require much bandwidth and disk space and go with one of these cheap lousy providers, your customers will suffer the slow page generations and site availablility errors. Good luck!
  24. http://www.starmotorcycles.com/star/msite/micro_v1.aspx 1679CC and EFI..............NICE!
  25. man I like the sound of that! I've got 2 other bikes to ride but ya know as soon as this one is gone i'll regret it! I'll have to put this on the back burner for now as I have other project(s) to do. Thanks for the advice everyone! Here's a pic of the 87 zl1000 I just picked up. It's an original owner, original tires, garage kept and 2,448 original miles. It hasn't run in 5 years, but by god it's gonna run tomorrow!
