  1. This just happened today and I haven't decided which way I want to go. My origonal idea was to find someone with a smaller bike in comparable condition who would like to trade. Was thinking of something in the 750-1000 cc range. Save the wing for 2-up and trips. If I could find a good shock, and replace mine, I was thinking the bike would probably bring around $3300-$3500. As it sets, I would take $2800. That's as is. Less than that and I might just keep it for a spare and ride it to work.
  2. After 10 years and 135K mostly trouble free miles on my RSV I finally decided to replace her a few weeks ago with an 08 Wing. There were a few things that I wanted to do to the RSV before I put it up for sale. The CB hasn't worked right for years and the cruise control seemed "weak" but I never used them anyway, so wasn't to concerned at the time and let it go. Thought I had better see if I could get them working better for the next owner. Short story is that three weeks ago I put the bike in my shop and started tinkering with it, getting things cleaned and fixed up. Changed oil, plugs, etc. Went down there this morning to do a couple things (getting out of the house mostly) and guess what...the rear shock has puked all over the floor!!! Just setting there! I guess this is revenge from the old girl for replacing her with a newer model. Had a wife like that once. Anyone interested in a great running 99 RSV that still needs work, pretty cheap?
  3. Slow day today and was going through some of my older files and came across this. Thought you might enjoy. Last May, my wife and I took a trip to Florida. My boss wanted me to keep in touch, so this is the result. Enjoy, I hope this works.
  4. This is why I live where I do. No city ordinances, no county regulations, no busy-body neighborhood associations, mow my grass when and if I decide to, build anything - when and where I want. I paid for this property with my sweat and blood without help from any of these agencies, so they can kiss it where the sun don't shine. I must be in a bad mood.
  5. As a father of four, both boys and girls, i understand the "not in my neighborhood" feeling. However I must say that I personally know two people who were convicted of sex offences due to pressure from an angry X wife pushing the child tell the story her way. The Children later recanted the testimony, but it didn't make any difference. Even though the person was not guilty the law forced him to register anyway, just in case. Now both of these guys are screwed for the rest of their lifes through no fault of their own. Can't get a decient job, can't have a family, and because of helpful neighbors like those described above can't find a place to live in peace. All I'm saying is that just because you see something on a list on the internet, that may not be the whole story.
  6. Worked with a guy, long time Government employee (30+ yrs), who decided to give back to his community by being a part time Deputy for the County Sheriff's office. Passed his CLEET training and went to work as a dispatcher and transported prisoners to/from county jail, metro, court, etc. Came time to renew his security clearance on his government job and was rejected for "associating with known criminal element":confused24::rotf: He appealed the decision and it was reversed, but still...some people just need to show how powerful they are.
  7. You might want to post this on the Trike and sidecar section. The rest of you take warning...I've known this guy for a few years now. Held his mother's hand when he was born, even had to paddle his bare bottom a time or two. Welcome aboard and looking forward to Christmas.
  8. whether to chime in here. I am not a doctor and don't give medical advice, but I guess I could tell a story about my great uncle. Now this uncle was plauged with kidney stones for several years. He finally found an "old time" doctor who put my uncle on a diet that not only got rid of his stones, he was never bothered with them again. On days 1-3 my uncle was directed to eat no solid food. His only intake was 3 glasses of pure apple juice four times per day. Not the apple drink stuff, had to be pure apple juice. On day 4 replace one half of the juce with water, and start adding lite meals of soup, broth, etc. Day 5 continue to increase water portion and add more light meals with solid food. Day 6 return to your normal diet but heavy on the veggies and reduce red meat. The idea here is that the Tanic? acid in the apple juice will actually melt the kidney stone and it passes harmlessly and painlessly. My uncle repeated the diet once a year and never had a reoccurance. I'm not saying you should try this, just saying it worked miricles for him (and others in my family).
  9. Here on this site is the complete service manual, plus a lot of information posted by those that have been there and done that. The service manual is the same for all RSVs from 99 through 2010. Take some time looking around and have fun.
  10. I can look tonight and post if you like. I will also tell you this, I thought I had a problem with my radio a few years ago and searched the web for the model number on the radio, no luck. Ended up calling Clairion direct and they had never heard of our model number. I believe the rep made an honest try to find it. I'm thinking that Clairion made these radios just for Yamaha and did not sell them to the public. My problem ended up being a loose/dirty connector under the fairing. Same as many others here. If you are having problems jump in and remove the fairing and clean the radio plugs. Reassemble with dielectric grease on the pins and I bet you will be good to go.
  11. To Progressive Insurance Customer Service Department. As a few of you may know, after 10 years on the RSV and waiting for Yama to make a move, I decided to take Snarley Bill up on his offer to sell his 2008 Goldwing. Before purchasing the Wing, I got an online quote from Progressive, my current carrier on the RSV which I thought was very reasonable. Yesterday, I went to see my insurance agent and gave him the info on the Wing. His price for the same coverage from Progressive was a little over $100 more than the online quote. I asked why and he couldn’t say (or wouldn’t) but suggested I call the Progressive Customer Service. So I did. I told Customer Service that I had purchased another bike and wanted to add it to my existing policy, thinking to take advantage of their multi-vehicle discount. After giving them the info, they gave me a price that was still about $30 more than the online quote. I asked why the difference, the rep asked for the quote number and put me on hold. In just a few minutes he was back and explained that my existing policy had renewed in February and they had a PRICE DECREASE in March. The online quote was based on the lower rates. Adding the Wing to my existing policy would put it at the old HIGHER rate. The rep suggested that we write a new policy for the Wing for the lower rate, then after the policy is established call them back and they would combine both bikes on the new policy. By doing this I am supposed to receive a refund from the old policy for the difference in rates (about $15), plus a refund for multi-vehicle policy. He also went through my policy and found another discount I was due and not receiving. Just a few bucks but every little bit helps. Progressive went the extra mile to save me every penny they could, they were fast, friendly, and in no hurry to get me off the phone and move on. I’ve not had to make a claim with them yet, but if their claim service is anything like their Customer Service, then they have a loyal customer for a long time.
  12. Tell Diane that you had a tornado come through and threw something up against the bike. No way to prevent something like that! Of course when she sees the shop is not hurt, you may have even more 'splainin' to do. That's what I would do.
  13. I'm glad you found what you really wanted. Also glad you were able to steal it, because I know what you gave away to get it. BTW, last night I found a light built in to the handle on the trunk but couldn't figure out how to make it come on. Do you know if it is hooked up or how it works?
  14. Edith and I got in around 7:30 with a minimum of undue excitement. All was well until we got to Tulsa and decided to stop for a Braums ice cream. Exited freeway and needed to turn left at the light. When the light changed, the two cars in front of me and I made the turn and a car on the right ran the light and ran right up my tail pipe. Stopped just inches behind me!! Then had the nerve to honk and yell like it was my fault!! Way too close. As we were leaving Braums I noticed a noise coming from the trailer wheel. Jacked it up and found one of the brakes had worked loose. Got it temporarly fixed to get us the rest of the way home. I want to thank Bill and Linda for putting this meet together and every one else for making Edith and I feel like old friends, even though this was our first get together. It won't be our last. This is one great bunch. We talked bikes, past meets, future meets, more bikes, great roads, more bikes, and even the the relative merits of gas with Monty giving a couple short demonstrations. No wonder his bike runs so good. He is an expert on the subject.
  15. Raining here now, but is supposed to let up by morning. We should be there late evening.
  16. I got a Facebook account over a year ago. First thing I found out was just how booring my life is. I had very little to post. I have no intrest in what time you got up this morning or what you are eating for supper and don't see why you should care either. I haven't been on FB for 6 months now. On the other hand, my wife got herself an account and loves it. On it all the time. We haven't spoken in quite a while.
  17. Stopped at Wally world today and a different looking 83 Venture was setting out front. The owner came out as I was looking. He said this was a wrecked basket case when he got it. Removed all the electronics from the dash/fairing except the instruments and covered up the holes. Said most of the plastics was busted up, so he just took it off.
  18. I ran the ME 880s for two years and they were by far the most comfortable tire I have used. Excelent traction in all kinds of weather, and SMOOTH as silk. It happens that I am the only 2nd Gen rider that I have heard of who has actually blown the engine on this bike. I was riding 2 up, pulling a heavy trailer, and running 60-65 mph down hill when the engine froze up. Instantly locking the rear wheel. I don't know how I rode that thing to a stop, but I did. After getting the engine fixed, I inspected the rear tire expecting to find a major flat spot from a 250 foot skid, but all looked good so I didn't replace it. It was only about a month later when the ME 880 started shedding rubber at 45 mph. Even though the tire looked good and still rode fine, you know that it had suffered major stress and heat build up during that skid. Looking back, I know I probably should have replaced the tire immediately, but it was almost new and I am cheap, so I didn't. Because of the experience of others on this site, I changed to E3 which are almost as good for me. I always wondered if my tire failure was from the stress, heat, overweight or poor manufacturing. Or some combination of all these.
  19. We can get a brand new cassette player for only $23,899.
  20. Phill We went past Seaba today but didn't stop. Didn't see any extra bikes there at the time, you were probably already gone. My wife is from Bixby and she still has a brother there out on 151st. We don't get up there as often as we should, but next time we are maybe we could meet for a cup.
  21. OK thanks, Now I just have to find a dark place to work. My shop has sky lights and a yard light right outside. Just have to see if it's dark enough to tell if I'm getting arcing or not.
  22. Just got the chance to look at my spark plug caps this morning. Here is what I found. First thing, I disconnected each SP wire from the plugs, and measured the resistance through the cap, wire, and coil to ground. All 4 measured around 28.2K to 28.6K ohms. I was supprised they were so close to each other. Unscrewed the caps from the wires and disassembled. Did not think to measure the caps seperately. You were right about corosion inside, though it only appeared on the end of the spring toward the wire. See the pics below. Cleaned up the caps and components and reassembled. Measured the cap resistance on each and had a low of 9.6K and high of 10.2K. Before reassembly, I measured the resistance of the wire and coil to ground and all read around 12.2K to 12.6K. I was supprised, expected it to be lower. Reinstalled the caps on the wires and took another measurement through the caps to ground, they range from 22.2K to 23K. I lowered the overall resistance all around, but did not get to the 10K you discussed. Watt chew tink?
  23. That maybe you wiped the axel down with hot water and it swoled up.
  24. Bill, I invite you to remember that everything runs in cycles. Always has and probably always will. Remember when we were a lot younger and we started importing products from Japan? Talk about cheap crap! You were lucky if it worked out of the box. Same with Tiwan, then China, now we are looking at Pakistan amd India. Sure I hate the throw-away attitude because of the effects on the environment, but those same items we are throwing away have made our lives so much easier than our fathers and grand-fathers could have ever immagined. Can you imagine the economy today if everyone only bought a car every 20 years, or a computer lasted for 15. We need to manufacture products which can be recycled, not thrown away. I believe we are seeing the beginings of that attitude. It will take a while, but we will get there as long as people like you keep pushing for a better life. Remember the old song about the "good old days, when times were bad".
  25. Looks like it came from the factory that way. Did you run your power wire from the battery? or through a switch so they can be turned off?
