  1. Thanks Jay Jay, I have been in a quandary about which set of tires to choose for my 98 RSTC and have been following all of the posts about tires for the past month. I guess the main problem was that Venom didn't have WWW in the size I wanted since I like the fat tire on the front. Good tip about BikeBandit too at that price. So, I guess I'll be the Black on black in black riding black, wearing my black vest with 4 reflective stripes (funny, I couldn't find those in black) and wearing a wooden cross (Now I think I know why cages never see me in spite of the loud pipes - must be trying to get away from the Grim Reaper ). Thanks for your input which was a real help to me and thanks to all the members who talked so openly about this which could have turned into a subjective rather than objective issue. 2 from me!
  2. Hi Joe, Is that handlebar tach still on offer? I saw my PM hadn't been read yet. Best from, Ron
  3. And I thought it was a birthday present you got yesterday that you didn't know how to give back Heck, I ride an Aprilia 125 scooter over here for the city and short trips on the highway. Automatic and about 65 miles to the gallon although it won't go faster than 72 mph, but motorcycles wave at me too In any case, ride it in health and don't forget how to ride your baby green V4.
  4. I'm not trying to start a war or get down on people about their riding style. I don't know how poople ride or how they take care of their tires or load their bikes. I read some of the other threads on tires and I see that a lot of people ride 2-up, pull a trailer and have loaded saddle bags and trunk. Some folks are carrying more than 500 lbs human weight and it makes me wonder if we are all staying within the bike total weight and tire total load limits of the various tires we are running. Are the people having problems with tires really watching load limits and staying within Yamaha recommended riding styles? I weigh about 320 naked (not a nice thought I know, but I played football until I was 40 and I still work out). By the time I have boots, jacket, helmet, knife, change and wallet on, I'm probably hitting 345 at least. Then there is the whole bunch of additional chrome, acessories, etc. My max load in the owner's manual says 448 lbs for a total bike weight of 1176 pounds. The tires show a max load also and I don't have the feeling that I can possibly be within that limit when I pack for a long trip (I won't ride 2-up because of my weight). I would like to get a set of new tires (Dunlop has 12,000 and the wear marks say no more) and I want to run the same make of tires. I like hearing about the higher load limit on the Avons. Freebird also swears by the Michelin Commanders. Elite II/III also sounded interesting although I'm thought somebody said there was a road noise problem with them. I'll be happy just havng three makes to chose from. Dunlops, Bridgestones and Metzlers are out for right now. Help please!?
  5. Thanks for sharing. Very moving and brings back quite a few memories and tears too. God bless and have a blessed Sunday and Father's Day.

    Covers

I bought a two cover set from Gorilla covers for my XV920 on EBAY. It came with a lined heavy duty waterproof cover and a lightweight travel cover. I never used the travel cover because it felt too light to me for all of the wind we had been having. I bought another cover for the RSTC on EBAY also. It is a lighter weight and folds compactly only taking up 1/3 of my space in a saddlebag. It comes with a pouch and I just use bungee cords for hoolking it up to my sissy bar.. I've been quite happy with it to date and it was stabile through some hefty storms and rain. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/YAMAHA-Royal-Star-Venture-Weather-Motorcycle-Cover-XXL_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ10066QQihZ015QQitemZ250257709789QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW Hope you find what you need.
  7. Thanks guys for reminding me about the most important things when riding: 1) Be seen 2) Be heard 3) Be safe I always thought I was a good defensive driver (in my younger days I had crashes with 6 cages and naturally lost), but I found out again it just isn't enough. The day after I picked up my 98 RSTC this April, a cage ran me off the road on the I-4 heading towards Tampa. I'm always looking for free space to the front and sides, so I didn't argue with him and just took the small concrete strip on the left side of the highway as an escape route. I thought the bike was loud enough with straight through slash cuts, but he definitely didn't hear or see me. To be honest, I never had time to think about my horn which wouldn't have helped anyway. I didn't even get mad, just said a prayer of thanks and pointed towards my eyes as I drove past him on the right side after I got back on the road. I like that idea with the dual air horns with two compressors. Is there a problem with electrical load at all?
  8. Wow, I have to thank you for the additional list of places to visit. I am just preparing my plans for a trip after the American Legion Legacy Run in August and was planning on riding from Phoenix to CA-OR-WA-ID-MT-WY-SD-NE-KS-OK-TX-Nacimiento/Mexico-TX-AK-TN-GA-NC-KY-WV-MD-DC (home). Hope I can do it in 1 1/2 months and visit the places I would like to (which also includes Sheridan and the Fort MacKenzie Historic site there). Since I think I will get enough riding as such :-), I can only add to your list for Wyoming with: Medicine Wheel, WY on the 14A to be able to look at one of the few surviving Native American artifacts of its kind in the U.S. Its far away from everything and is supposed to provide good riding with swithbacks and sits atop of the Big Horn Mountains. It shouldn't be difficult to get to Yellowstone from there. I rode Chicago to Salt Lake in 2006, and came back to Chicago through the Grand Tetons, Yellowstone and Theodore Roosevelt N.P. in ND. All I can say is don't ride at night and avoid (big distance please!) the buffalo, wild horses and larger antlered animals. Tank up more often than you think you should. Wish all a safe and satisfying ride. We have a wonderful country that God made for us so try counting our blessings ;-) Woud love to hear how it went and see some picturs too please. God bless and keep safe.
  9. Hey Billet, Like your "SS" designator and support your "Support our Troops" whole heartedly. Thank you for your service. The only designator I was still qualified to wear when I was put out on medical was "SW". Have a great time and watch out for Boomer. Looks like he is a mean MMC(SS) but he's a really great guy. Ride safe.
  10. I had made a note to myself (I'm going to need a set next month) after reading a thread here that said, "stay away from Michelin Commanders (7000 mi)." I've also seen lots of posts to stay away from the Metzlers. Also to stay away from the stock Dunlops. I have a 98 RSTC and my rear Dunlop is toast at 12,000 miles. I run WWW but am considering dropping the WWW to get a good set of tires for the Legacy Run and "Roots" trip I plan for this summer (about 18,000 miles). I was interested in the Venom X but they don't seem to have a 150 front tire (I'm happy with that size and don't want to go to the narrower 130) and I also read here that the rear 150 tire is wider than standard making it a bit difficult to get back on. Is the only other possibilty to go to a Dunlop Elite II/III? Or did I miss something? Thanks in advance guys. All I can say is, "You guys are awesome and knowledgeable" and that I enjoy being here. Ride hard, ride safe, but ride with God.
  11. Greetings John, I know its tough to have to wait but you need to take care of yourself too. Jeannie's going to be weak from her treatments, so we don't need you lying in bed next to her. I have put Jeannie on our prayer list so know that we are offering prayers for both of you everyday. Your job is to be there for Jeannie when she feels weak and making the doctors do their job. Remind them that they are there to cure and not to make decisions for God. Please pass a hug, kiss and best wishes from the brothers and sisters in the southern half of the European Union. God bless you both and keep safe. Tatonka AKA Pastor Ron
  12. Hi Rick, Mighty happy that the police found your truck and I hope you'll have it back home soon. I said thank you to the guy I said a prayer to in your name. Ride hard, ride safe, but always ride with God.
  13. Yo Pegscraper, Thanks for the headsup info. Got my old heart going again. It was an ugly bike 20+ years ago and the new one looks like it is too. At least the rams are functional now, but with 4-1-2-4 pipes they sure could have looked nicer. Only thing really that bothers me is the 4 gal. tank. If its faster than the Busa and Kawa, I'll take it cause it sure looks more comfortabler than those two. Maybe I can sell rides on the German highways as long as we don't have speedlimits. Does the chassis fall apart when you take the engine out now? Let me know how you do getting it into a Venture (replace those Venture leg protectors with the rams maybe?).
  14. Hey Guys, Looks like there has been a lot of work going on in the background that the organizers haven't been beating their drums about. My congratulations on the planning and efforts for what looks to be a great event for all who can attend. I kept seeing the banner in the upper corner but didn't really understand what it was advertising. Talking up this thread has however, caught my attention and now I'm in the know. I guess an event is always made up of organizers and those who help to advertise it, no matter whether it may sound like complaints or criticism. It gets attention! I unfortunately won't be able to attend having already made plans to participate in The American Legion Legacy Run from Indy to Phoenix in August. Living in Germany, it would be hard for me to be in the States from July to end of September (doing 3-4 weeks trip from Mexico to Canada after the Run). I wish all of the organizers and participants lots of success and fun and a safe trip there and back. God bless and keep safe.
  15. Said a little prayer for you. I'm sure everything will work out for you.
  16. Glad you were able to get some helpful advice. Wish you good shooting!
  17. Hi Black Owl, You always have good info for us, so I'm sure we can find a way to help you. Just some questions to try to establish the problem: Are you downloading from the camera to computer or are you using another device such as a card reader or printer? Have you always used the card with the same camera or did you use it with another camera or device? Can you see the pictures when the card is in the camera? Did you add pictures to the card by way of a data transfer? Are there different formats on the card (jpeg, pcx, wav or video)? Does the capacity of the card not exceed the maximum size of your camera? I'm sure if we have that info, someone can help.
  18. BTW I didn't order them from EBAY but here: http://www.bikeremporium.com/Leather_Chaps-Men_s_Unlined_Leather_Motorcycle_Chaps.html
  19. Hi Juggler, I'm looking for some to fit my 32.5 inch thighs (too much football when I was younger) too. If you run across any, please let me know. Inseam just has to be 30 inches or longer (I'll chop) with a big waist. I had picked up a new braided pair on EBAY in 5XL, but they are too tight to be comfortable when sitting in the saddle. Haven't chopped them yet so they are still original length.
  20. Hi Margaret and Jeff, Way to go and both of you should be patting each other on the back for a job well done. Be proud and happy. My daughter got married last year, also a year after she picked up her Masters, and I am really happy to have a new son. Those two events made me realize that there was nothing in the way of retirement anymore. Ain't life wonderful? Enjoy.
  21. Owner's or Repair? Star motorcycles lets you download a pdf copy of your owner's manual. I don't know about the repair manual though.
  22. Sounds like a problem I had coming up from Florida. At first, no problems, then went through a lot of rain and eventually started having problems with getting her in gear (real hard and almost had to stomp down to shift). Noticed that my clutch fluid was showing a dirty color but didn't think anything of it. Stopped for gas just north of Richmond and the clutch wouldn't work at all. Push started it and rode to DC and they changed the fluid and bled it. Worked fine after that. The fluid for the brakes and clutch absorbs water rather easily but you wouldn't think it would be a problem in a closed system. My rain and your washing? Maybe somebody else has the answer though.
  23. Glad to hear the good news, Hipshot. Praise and thank the Lord, and I continue to pray for Jeannie and her family. God bless and keep safe.
  24. Your spelling caught me on this thread at first because it looked like you knew one of the Native American languages. After checking, I saw what wonderful pictures you take. Thanks for sharing. Hokahe, sometimes spelled (pronounced) hookahay seemed to have meant "Let's go!" or "Let's beat feet!" (also transalation of "didi mau" in Vietnamese). Let's hokehe together one day! Ride hard, ride safe and always ride with God.
