  1. Peach Enchilada,,,, A local delicacy from McLeod's Farm,,,, near McBee, SC. It's a pastry crust with peaches and,, if you read the recipe,, even has Mountain Dew! And done right, has vanilla ice cream on it. This is a working family peach farm (& strawberries and blackberries in season). An awesome bike stop for desert. http://www.macspride.com/ Hey, may have seen you guys out on the road today, we did Hwy 97 up to Wagon Wheel in Ft.Lawn. (Cajun joined us on his Heritage.) Waved at a lot of bikes, think there may have been a poker run on that route. Mike G in SC
  2. I think someone mentioned them a couple of months back. I went to their site to get pricing on saddle bag rails,,,, really good. I printed the page then showed it to my local dealer. He normally will match a Yamaha dealer price,,, he did. So, even if they are not convenient, your dealer "may" meet his price. (So, may want to put that dealer in your favorite bucket.) Mike G.
  3. I just own a couple of Royals. But in my STAR club, The VA director, Rick Davis, is a motorcycle cop and stands about 6'7". He rides a Venture for two up, a BMW on the job and a FJR for the mountains. Get him talking about his FJR rides and you're going to be talking a while. I entertained the FJR thought once till I sat on it. Not wearing 3" heals for no one. Mike G
  4. The fuel pump on my RSTD was replaced under the 5 year warranty. Do it before it runs out.
  5. I'm seeing two things replacing chaps lately. For me an several in my riding club we got ski pants. These are about $40 and have zippers for boots. Get the right ones and they have inner-calf patches (nylon noise reducing pannels) which, by the way, will protect from muffler burns. AND,,,,, keeps the all important crotch zone warm too!!!!! They pack down to a roll about 4" in diameter and weight zilch. No, they don't have the protection of good leather,,,, win some, loose some. Another bunch I ride with went to Wal-mart or Tractor Supply and got Carhart (or look alike) fleece insulated coveralls for about $60. Kind of looks like the Deliverance Bikers (wheeee),, but they are toasty!! They have leg zippers too. More 60 year old bikers die of heart attacks putting on chaps than having sex. That statistic is for men, I don't think women have to report that. Pretty sure about that! Mike G in SC
  6. I'm sure his Mom is proud (?) Nice of him to call, give her something to think about NEXT time he calls her like that.
  7. On replacing that glass fuse holder,,,,,, Soon after my passing lamps were installed, they poped the fuse. My shop took care of it, no charge as they did the install just a week or so before. What he did was run a blade fuse (car type) and put it near the headlight adjust knob so I can get to it without getting into the fairing. It's not real visible but it can be replaced in seconds with no tools. Real nice. Mike G in SC PS: I should get my F4 in the next day or so, can't wait. (Got the 17.5 clear,,, wide)
  8. Haven't delt with Pinwall but it is nice to chase used parts when you want. (they do have over 99% approval) But most of the time I go on Ebay and key in "Yamaha Royal Star" I get 4700+ hits, at least HALF are Pinwall. For those times you don't want to wade through Pinwall's stuff you can get specific on the Ebay "advanced filter" to omit them: On the left of the Ebay page scroll down to "Show Only", click on "Choose more". Then click on "Advanced Search". Then scroll down to "Sellers", check box "only items from", drop down box to "Exclude", then key in the exact vendor name you want to omit. And set your "results per page " at 200 while you're at it. (this is old news for most, a relief if you didn't know how to omit them). If you omit Pinwall_Cycle_Parts you will drop to about 2500 parts (today). Now just a half of a ton of stuff. Mike G
  9. Took 22 friends (17 bikes) on a back road ride in mid-SC. We went to a country restaurant, the Wagon Wheel, in Fort Lawn for some great food. Then another set of back roads to a Sonic to end it. Yep, that's what I did. Mike G in SC
  10. I ordered a ROKU black box last night, should be here next week. (Again, some newer TV sets and DVD/BVD will also pick up streaming net stuff like the ROKU box.) I went through their web site and channel choices. I think it will open up some new stuff, several free and some "premium" with demand choices. I'll post back here after I see what it does. Mike G in SC
  11. Besides newer TV's and DVD's that have net features, there are a few "black boxes" like ROKU and Apple that sell for $60-$100 that can hook to the set and go wireless (or ethernet) to provide some free stuff but also access to Netflix and other "rentals" that you can stream to your TV. I think it's probably a good pairing for those using broadcast, instead of cable, with some premium content. Does anyone here have the ROKU or Apple boxes? If so, thoughts? (seems like for $10/mo you could watch new movies you want,,, not what the HBO types want to rerun) Thanks, Mike G in SC
  12. Seaking, You had me pretty confused there. Thanks for the PS. (I just spent a minute with Greenboat order taker.) You want to CALL Jeff at Marinebeam to discuss issues. Marinebeam is the manufacturer I think he's a "good guy". Mike G.
  13. Seaking, The tech at Marinebeam was pretty open and honest about the issue. Yes, he was concerned about customer service. I'm not sure on the name but I think they are small enough that if you call you may get him or just ask for the tech who know most about the bulbs. It was probably Jeff. Call him, nice guy. By Phone: 888-368-5215 8AM - 5PM EST By email: jeff@marinebeam.com Read their "about" page: http://store.marinebeam.com/info.html Mike G in SC Also, they do sell a little black box that can defeat the chip issue, perhaps it can defeat the radio issue(?)
  14. I PM'ed with Sleeperhawk about his lamps. Sounds good. Then I called Greenboat, they have pulled them from their listing. Then called Marinebeam, the manufacturer. Talked to a good tech there, maybe the honcho. Marinebeam has pulled them from sales & production (and got Greenboat to return theirs and pull the listing). He said they have a bad chipset from their supplier and are having problems. They would rather pull the product than sell and get complaints. He said give them about 30 days. He said also, they got a burst of sales lately (motorcycle folks who caught on). He also said they are designed for marine spreaders and certain movement,,, not so much for MC. But they would like to get into our market. He has some 12v available but is still reluctant to sell. So in about a month he should be back into new production and selling to Greenboat again. (Greenboat was $39 Marinebeam was $50 each.) So, I will get some but,, will wait. If you want to know more, call Marinebeam Thanks George, Mike G in SC
  15. I've seen that before, it's a Alabama rest area, right Wanderer? Mike G in SC
  16. Annie, My daughter, Claudia, runs a personal shipping/shopping service from South Carolina. It is called Box Voyage www.boxvoyage.com She specializes in helping Aussie's get their goods from the US, for reasonable fees. My son, Aaron, lived in Sidney a few years back (got his masters there). After he returned, he set up a personal shipping/shopping business to do just what you want, be a freight forwarder for Aussie shoppers who want to buy from US auctions or retailers on-line and deal with the hassle of shipping. Claudia, my step-daughter, took over the business a year or two ago. I'm not part of the business but I believe she also consolidates (repacks) for multiple purchases and also can provide "personal shopping" by chasing the goods you want. Please visit the web site, see if it might help you buy from the US. If you contact her, tell her I sent you. (Send me a PM if you want) Good luck, Mike G in SC
  17. I had a lighting guy, that sets up at a local flea market on Saturdays, put run/turn/brake red LED's on my RSTD and my Venture. (For midlands SC locals, thats Mike Crider, Light-em-up) He prefers using "Signal Dynamics" but also may use Custom Dynamics and Badlands products. Requires a module for the functions, and yes, also need a load equalizer. Requires more hard wiring than "plug & play" bikes like Harleys. I also replaced the central brake light with the Custom Dynamics 100 LED, no module needed. End result is REALLY BRIGHT red tail lights thru the clear lenses. If you stare at them at night in the driveway, you will be blinking red dots for a while. My wife followed me on a trip once and was stunned by the lack of visability of the stock rear lights. Not now. (PS: the turn unit lights themselves are a round cluster of LED's on a silver dollar sized board with a wired plug-in. Not bulb looking.)
  18. Below is a pic of my Grandmother Bessie Griswold with a unknown friend,, NO not my Grandpa,,,, dam biker! Anyhow, think this is a 1912.
  19. Goes well with my ATV-W:
  20. My guess was electrical,,, but if you supect a fuel pump you can try gravity feed. Below is a copy/paste I've used a couple of times. It got me by till the shop replaced my fuel pump,,, warranty. And if you go gravity feed and the problem does not repeat,,, you got it. Fuel pump or filter, if you get stuck on the road, here's how to set it up for gravity feed in a pinch: You can do a gravity feed to bypass the filter and pump if you want to eliminate them, to find out what's wrong. Takes about 15 minutes. Be careful about spilling fuel,,,. (Remove seat. Turn off fuel petcock. Pull the tank bolt - you don't have to remove the tank, just lift the rear of it an inch or so, maybe put in a block of wood to raise it. Use a long needle nose to pull (unclamp) the feed line from the filter, then pull the line (unclamp) to the carb on the right side. Then connect the tank line direct to the carb feed. Before you try to start it,, remove the left side cover and disconnect the fuel pump connector so it won't spew it's remaining gas. Oh,,, turn back on petcock now. Try to start it. If you have a mostly full tank, it should start up and run fine,,, your problem is the filter or pump. If this works, then you have a bad filter or pump. If it's the pump, you can run on gravity if you keep the tank above 1/4 full, till you get one. If you plan to do more than test,, get a $3 inline filter till you are back to normal.) I ran a week and 1000 miles without a pump. Yes warranty is good. The Yamaha stock part (Mitsibshi) is $300. If you are out of warranty, someone on this forum has posted a after market $45 replacement. Mike G in SC
  21. We're traveling right now in FL, gulf coast area. I got a Acer 10" this week at Target for $180. Not bad for the $$. This is easier than toting a full sized lap top. But this is just for fun and communications on the road. I wouldn't make it a primary PC. Yes, get at good padded case, not just the little $12 sleeve. Mike G in SC (well, FL right now)
  22. I use my brights alot, during the day. The brights on the Silver Star Ultra rarely went 6 months. If you find the right info page, their brights are rated for something like 50 hours. Dims will last a long time. I went to PIAA H4 (Amazon, 2 pack $40 free ship). They usually last twice as long, or more, on the brights. Mike G in SC
  23. Buddy, Just sent Paypal for a set for my Venture. Black please. Will also send you an email. Mike G in SC
  24. Paypal sent. Thanks, Mike G in SC
  25. We are going to ride with another couple to the Florida Panhandle area for Thanksgiving. Will only stay 2 or 3 days max. Destin, Ft Walton, Panama City Beach,,, don't know. Can anyone suggest a on-the-beach hotel/motel or rental condo in that area. Condo with two bed rooms is ideal. Just want to chill out, turkey not required. Thanks, Mike G in SC
