  1. They got rid of the Lame Flame,,, good move.
  2. Wow, and it's a "stealth",, and we could see it!! kidding. That is too impressive! Back in the day,1970, I was stationed in KS and got to see a SR71, up close, come and go,, and we didn't even know we had such a bird. Pilot was greatfull for repairs and put on quite a show on his departure. Double afterburners, disappeared at a 80 degree angle in a clear blue sky! My grandson is a F22 crewchief at Langley, same place I was stationed in '73. Yep, you must be proud. Semper Fly! Mike G in SC
  3. On the chrome choke knob,,, I put one on my Road Star years back. Due to it's size and mount method, it was actually keeping my choke partially on, even when all the way in. I think it is easy to remove (just a thumb nut). I might take that thing off for now as you are troubleshooting. Mike G in SC
  4. Istakoza, That's what I posted weeks ago on this link (and last year too). My daughter has a similar service, http://boxvoyage.com/ People can contact the one you suggest or Box Voyage, questions are free. Mike G in SC Earlier post: I mentioned this last year, but it glossed over. My daughter runs a small "package forwarding business" called "Box Voyage". http://boxvoyage.com/ She picked up the business two years ago from my son who had lived in Sidney. Yes it is a business so there are fees, but the idea is that you purchase your on-line item and have it shipped to her in the US (St. Mary's GA). Then they reship (repack or consolidate shipments if needed) to your non-USA address. The basic premise is $13 fee for a single package plus actual shipping costs. You pay her through PayPal before she ships the package. I think they (her and her sister-in-law) also do shopping for people but that's beyond me. Anyhow, this is a possible answer for you who cannot get a US company to ship direct to you or want to really jack up S&H costs beyond reason. Go to the website above and check it out, contact info is on the front page. I can put this in the classifieds if someone wants? If you have questions you can PM me and I will ask for you. 5. This was on a Internet news source (CNN associate): The man Curtis believes to be the driver appears in the video dressed in a dark suit. He stood a little off to the side from the group and did not help lift the car, the video shows. After Wright is pulled from underneath the vehicle, the man in the suit walks over to look at the motorcyclist. "He was in a shock," Curtis said about the driver, adding that any possible charges related to the traffic accident are pending. complete article: http://www.news8000.com/money/Bystanders-rescue-motorcycle-driver-trapped-under-burning-car/-/336/1322276/-/sh1hnx/-/index.html
  6. I picked up a screw in my rear tire (original Michelin Commander). I really like that tire, lots of miles left, can't find this tire anymore. I have plugged a roofing nail before on another tire, no problems. But this was a fair sized screw, dead center of tread, straight in. Tire is not torn but I don't trust a plug to keep air. Simple question,, is it safe to put a tube in the rear tire? (2006 RSTD stock size)
  7. RE: Pinwall,,, I bought the part Saturday or Sunday night. It was on my doorstep Wednesday PM. Packaged good, part looks good, included bolts. I'm impressed. Mike G
  8. The Yamaha OEM (really Mitzibushi) is about $300. (But you can buy a generic for $50, needs some modifications.) Like RSTD dog said, you can gravity feed with a minimum of tools, and maybe a flashlight, if it dies on the road. It may fail but,,,, may not,,,. Yes the one on my RSTD did,,, about 50k. But, as you can limp home on gravity-feed, probably an overkill to replace a good one, unless it is suspect. (if you do, send it to me, I'll pay shipping!) Search back on old posts on "gravity". I know I've posted "how-to" a couple of times. Mike G in SC
  9. ZZZZZZ,,,, hey, I just woke up,,, is it Y2K yet,,, did I miss anything,,, Nope,,, everything is same-same. Hey, but back to my favorite two colors,,,, Black and Chrome!!! Dropped the stupid flame decal. As much as I would like to see them do upgrades, any 2012 is better than none. Means they added another year of support system for the 1999-2011, and aftermarket parts may hold on longer. I'm okay but,,,,,,I wasn't looking to buy this year. Mike G
  10. And Hwy 28 is great below Highlands too, down to Walhalla, SC. Then find your way back to North, GA (go to Dillard House). When I go to the Dragon, I probably enjoy the 100+ miles of Hwy 28 as much as the dragon. I like a ride, don't have to have a "challenge". From Columbia, SC it's fun to head to Clemson area, catch 28, then to Bryson City, to Cherokee, then the Blue Ridge Parkway to Asheville and shoot back on I-26. Makes a nice ride day if you leave early. Mike G
  11. Me too. But going on line and ordering,,, it did not ask me any info. So I made sure I printed the order. When I went to the store next day, nope not found. The manager did an override and gave me the 5 for $25. Thanks for the heads up. Mike G
  12. Thanks for the replys. Feeling kind of stupid right now, hope I get over that(??) Actually, just found a couple on eBay. Pinwall had one off an '07 RSV for $30 + ship. Bought it. This was my '06 RSTD, but will fit fine. Yeah, that is probably the only damage. I probably need to get a gasket just in case. Then,,,,, I still got to fix a flat,,,, Thanks, Mike G
  13. One word,,,,,,, "Oh crap". Was crusing down I-20 with traffic at about 75 when the rear tire started getting squirlly. Pulled off just in time to pull in to a parking lot. Yep, flat rear, bolt in the tire. My son-in-law brought my trailer. As I was about to ride up the ramp he said,,,, "you sure you can make that angle?". I said yeah,,,, without really checking. You guessed it, the oil pan hit the trailer bed edge and knocked the oil plug 1/2 way out and broke open the bottom of the oil pan, setting up for a rapid oil drain. I will check with the dealer and look on Pinwall. But my dealer is great and likely will take it there. SO,,, Anyone got guesses on repair cost. I'm guessing the only damage is the oil pan it's self. Thanks, Mike G
  14. One word,,, EXIGENT Covers ! Check out "EXIGENT" Covers. http://www.exigentbikecovers.com/ He makes 1/2 covers for the Venture $52. The owner makes them and then goes to rallys. I got mine at the Outer Banks bike thing last Easter. They are made from black sport parachute nylon and, I think lifetime warranty. If it rips, you send it back to him. He has a demo "bag" full of water to show the material won't leak thru. Mine fits in it's own pouch that takes up about the same size a rain pants. I'm real happy with mine. As it's a half cover, I don't worry about the pipes (but it might melt on really hot pipes). Read their web info. Mike G http://www.exigentbikecovers.com/images/finished/shorty.jpg
  15. John, One word,,,,,,,,,,,,, "Frog Toggs" If the rain won't go away,, dress up & ride.
  16. I put E3's (that's the brand) in my RSV after my dealer did some carb work. Did a 2600 mile trip right away and been riding about a month or so since. I'm pretty darn happy with them. I since switched to using 87 octane, was using 89. Running great. (before the carb reset and the E3 plugs it didn't run so good on 87.) The RSV (and Road Star and Strat) use the E3.36 size. I forget the cost but it's more than NGK stock but less than NGK iridium. (I think $6/ea) O'reilly's carrys them but normally just 2 of that size per store. So either order by phone first or go to two stores to get your 4. Can also find on Amazon,,,,,, If you are looking to try something different, but good, check them out. They have a V-shape instead of traditional electrode. I will put them in my RSTD too,,, soon. http://www.e3sparkplugs.com/ Mike G in SC
  17. Wow, Thanks, Glad you asked us. Mike G
  18. Um,, back to the question for a second, Prefered old way. Seemed more like ads than messages. Mike G
  19. I posted this a couple of weeks ago. They will have the RSV stock rear but, for now, only the small front. Michelin Commander 2 - comming Click on this link from Competition Accessories (news review) http://blog.compacc.com/2011/08/mich...tires-preview/ Competition accessories is starting to sell the Michelin Commander 2 (I think). But not our size yet. The link above is an article that has pictures and describes the new tread design and extended mileage claims. Michelin is pretty happy but I like the old design. Says they will come in 15 sizes. For the front, it does not include our stock size (150/80/16) but does carry the "small front", 130/90/16. Rear, they do have our 150/90/15. This link is the sales page on what they do have now (not our size): http://www.compacc.com/Michelin-Comm...torcycle-Tires This image has been resized. Click this bar to view the full image. The original image is sized 1600x1200 and weights 488KB.http://blog.compacc.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/IMG00184-20110810-15161.jpg
  20. This web site may have already been mentioned on VR,,, but it's worth repeating. Just like there is a "gas buddy" site to tell you the gas prices in your area ( gasbuddy.com ) there is also a non commercial web site to help you locate gas stations that sell non-ethanol 100% gas. It's user updated, so, not necessarily guaranteed or certified. I happend to look the other day and found out the Shell just down the road from me has just started to carry it in 87 octane!!!! Green politics aside,,, my Venture runs a whole lot smoother and better mileage on 100 %GAS. The local guy actually put in a new pump/tank to carry it. His main island is still ethanol. He charges $0.10 more than ethanol 87, but that's okay by me. We have a lake in the area so it's good for the boaters too. If you go to web site, click on your state then look for your city (alpha). Update it yourself if you have worthy info. http://pure-gas.org/ Mike G
  21. Raymond, I did find some information for you from a Colorado Springs news source. I have sent you a PM/email. Mike G
  22. Condolences, Prayers sent. Raymond, Don't see any info on Colorado web sources at this time. Perhaps if you search local news ( http://www.alamosanews.com/v2_main_page.php ) or Colorado Springs Gazette or Denver Post with the family name you may find something. I saw nothing current on motorcycle accidents. Best wishes, Mike G
  23. South Carolina $463/yr for TWO bikes (2009 RSV and 2006 RSTD) full coverage, good limits. Nationwide (but the actual policy is Victoria, Canadian I think) It renewed in April, I think it went up,, say $40. But that was dropping my Strat for the RSV. Mike G in SC
  24. Thanks Wally, that's the one. I see your link on her website! Also, she links to Fox Creek Leathers, one of my favorites. Mike G
  25. Months back someone had a link to a small custom leather company that made leather gas cap covers to fit RSV. Anyone know what it was or know of gas cap covers besides the Yamaya one? Thanks, Mike G
