  1. Check out the PIA H4. It's white and bright like the Silverstar Ultra. But, seem to give me more life than the Silverstar's I went through. (I usually buy the 2-pack off Amazon. Got 2 bikes.) Looking just now, I see PIA has a new series, Night Tech, for about the same pair price. Claims they have longer life too. [ame=http://www.amazon.com/PIAA-10704-Night-Tech-Upgrade/dp/B00544ZD86/ref=sr_1_4?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1323039292&sr=1-4]Amazon.com: PIAA 10704 Night Tech 60/55 Watt H4 Upgrade Bulb - Pair: Automotive@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51m8E7gb6eL.@@AMEPARAM@@51m8E7gb6eL[/ame] I'll order a pair next time I put in my last extra bulb. (Always keep a spare, even if it's the old stock bulb.) Mike G
  2. My wife is big on Kindle, for several years now. She reads on the back of our RSV rather than stare at my helmet. I can usually tell from the jab in the back,,, used to be paperbacks. She has also given them to her daughters, grandkids and her sister. Not sure how all it works but you can add user names to your account. I think they can grab books you have paid for. Classics like Moby Dick are free. You can also extend the account to PC's and such. As for reading on the bike,,, please restrict to passenger. It usually puts me to sleep. Mike G
  3. In the last 7 or 8 years I have owned a Road Star, RSTD, Stratoliner and a RSV (in that order). I still have the RSV and the RSTD. I use the RSV for my two up rides,,, and if I do a 2000 mile'r interstate run. But for my daily commute and any solo fun I LOVE the RSTD. I got the RSTD when I still had the Road Star, kept it through the Strat and have no plans to get rid of it (now about 85k miles). Some say RSV and RSTD are "same bike". But to me they really ride different. They are geared the same, yep. But I call the RSTD the "little" bike. Just seems to handle more like a cruiser than a tourer. More nimble when you are starting or stopping (foot down stuff) and better on twisty roads than the RSV. No top heavy stuff. I hope they come back out with a RSTD again in a few years so I can continue the ride. Oh,,, so if it's not obvious,,, I suggest a RSTD too. Mike G
  4. As you are from Georgia,,, Get it up to about 35 MPH,,, hit something stationary. I promise the airbag indicator will go off. (I used to live near Atlanta. If filled up,, family moved to SC.) Just funning, Mike G
  5. A Google search said that Tractor Supply carries Farnam's Leather New. You convinced me,,, headed there soon. Thanks, been looking for something like that. Mike G
  6. Before I put my glasses on,,, I thought you were from Georgia and had just run down a red clay driveway after a rain. I see that on my daughter's car all the time. Looks much better with glasses! Looks good.
  7. Thinking back a few years, similar but different : Chevy Chase: Here with an editorial reply is Miss Emily Lattella. Emily Lattella: What's all this fuss I keep hearing about violins on television? Why don't parents want their kids to see violins on television? I thought the Leonardo Bernstein concerts were just lovely, now, if they only show violins on television after ten o'clock at night, the little babies will all be asleep and they won't learn any music appreciation. They'll learn to play guitars, and bongo drums and go to Africa and join these rock'n roll outfits and they won't drink milk! I think there should be more violins on television and less game shows, it's terrible the way... Chevy Chase: Um, Littella, that's Violence on television. Not violins. Emily Lattella: Oh, well that's diffrent. Never mind!
  8. Not that part, but for a couple of years I was going through stator & regulator/rectifier like oil changes. My old Road Star went through the original plus 2. My next bike, RSTD lost the original,, at least that was warranty $$. I started thinking my carport was over an Indian Burial Ground??? And I did find out after a utility survey that my house power did run directly under the carport,,, directly in-line with how I park my bike !!! It had me thinking the magnets were being nutered or something??!! Well, still parking the bike (now 2) in the same place,,, no problems in a few years now. Either the spirits or the amps have been overwhelmed by two big Royals,, or ???? SO,,, try another pickup and yeah, watch where you park it. (I used Pinwall this summer. I give them a 10 for my experiences.) Mike G
  9. Talk about patience! 1200+ hours. I guess the music covered up all the cuss words.
  10. Oh geeze,,, what have you done?
  11. A little entertainment, no bull. Oh, guess I should look again. Hey, I'm not a farmer. http://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/lXKDu6cdXLI?rel=0
  12. Jack, Nice talking this morning. Hope that solved the major problem. If you are on IE7, yeah, may as well go to IE8. Not much difference but will probably be more compatible with sites. It will ask you a bunch of start-up preferences. I think I said no to most,, and stayed with previous search preference (Google). Mike G
  13. Like SilverT is pointing,,,,, software? I use IE8 and soon after I got ATT U-verse I was getting bogged on most anything on the Internet. For some other reason, I did an IE reset and my problems stopped. (always do a RESTORE point before any change) To RESET IE8: The panel is same as your tools - Internet options, but get to it from your control panel without IE running: Close your IE browser, then: START CONTROL PANEL INTERNET OPTIONS ADVANCED TAB down near the bottom RESET there may be another screen, like OK. This is used when IE goes bogus on you. It may loose cookies and "fill in's". It basically sets IE8 back to new user. It fixed my particular (similar) issue. No cost is nice. Mike G in SC
  14. I don't have my bike infront of me. But I'm thinking that's not intake, that's the trumpets. (The two black spaces on the bottom left of the picture.) Don't want a silent horn! http://www.bikerhiway.com/images/large/stebel/snh-03_LRG.jpg
  15. Ruffy's right on STARTRON. I use Seafoam all the time, love it, perks up salads. But for winter storage (I read about that), use STARTRON. Get it several places now, in WalMart it's in the boat section with the marine oils. Seafoam is made to burn. Startron is made to stabilize the gas and kick butt on the ethanol they feed us. I used Startron in lawn mower gas for my brother's estate. Kept it good for most of a year. And, yes, when you put it in the tank, be sure to run it into the carbs. Mike G
  16. Congrats on getting back to full time (and more money). But, know what you mean about being treated to some time off. My company went through a tough year, two years ago (better now). We did furlough weeks, one a month. But we did get up to 10 weeks unemployment in the year to buffer it. At first it was "ohoh",,, but buy the 3rd week out it was "pick me!". Wouldn't mind if they would offer that as an option. That was kind of like getting 13 weeks vacation. I was busy tending my brother's estate so it was not ride, ride, ride as much as I hoped. But it was enough to "taste" retirement. I'm 61. If it weren't for medical,,, bet a lot of us wouldn't wait till 65!
  17. Rich, I went back and read several of your posts before you bought the Vmax rear end. You were comfortable with 50 mph in 5th gear, where most were not. You also had a rear whine you wanted to loose. So, now that you swapped the Royal rear end for Vmax, what do you have at 4th and 5th? Same question for Freebird (VGoose too). I'm interested in the Vmax rear end idea but I do enjoy pushing the gears the way a Royal can. But of course the Royals are not geared for the Dragon. I rarely go to 5th on two lane. Don, you have had the mod for years. What are your gearing habits? I have a RSTD for solo/commute and a RSV for two up and trips. Which bike would benefit most with the Vmax rear if I did one? And Rich, did you get rid of the rear whine? Thanks, Mike G
  18. Ben, A friend sent me the onion article a while back. Might look it up on Snopes.com: http://www.snopes.com/medical/swineflu/onion.asp And Snopes also has a related page on the cut onion/Mayo: http://www.snopes.com/food/tainted/cutonions.asp Mike G
  19. Bob, I just measrued my RSV & RSTD. Both travel very close to 1/2". A few weeks back my RSV choke started pulling it's self back in after I started the bike. Almost felt like a spring was pulling it. I got some carb cleaner spray and sprayed down all pivot points, from both sides of the engine. Cleared it up right then. Mike G in SC
  20. Jim, Your bike signal lights are quite bright (for brake and turn). The one on the sidecar was not as obvious (is it LED?). Not required, but I think it did not blink for right turn (but of course the one on the bike does,,, but now that's in the middle of the mass). My observation was: Your bike rear signal lights are bright LED for brake & turn, not "run". Your bike tail light is brake/run, not as bright as the signal LEDs. The sidecar light is brake (as it was daytime, not sure if it was "run" but assume it runs off the bike tail light), not turn. But I wasn't writing this stuff down, so I might be overthinking it today. But I do remember what I had for lunch yesterday,,, oh, and don't eat at the Chinese place in Maiden. Mike G
  21. Jim and ya'll, The bike and side car look great. I followed Jim for about 6 miles of back road and 20 miles of interstate. It tracks great from what I could see. Did good on bumps on the 2 lane. Didn't appear to lack power. Might brighten up the tail light (run/brake/turn LED) when you can. Looks good, Jim. Let me know when you put on the Kumho. Wish I had put my point & shoot camera in my windshield bag, would have got a video for you. Mike G
  22. I'll see you Tuesday at Mean City Cycles,,, with the Kumho spare. You bringing the sidecar to tote it back? Love to see it. Mike G
  23. This cougar? Oh, and the blond,,,, Farrah Fawcett. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ofaCGy-wVV0]TV Commercial Mercury Cougar 1975 - YouTube[/ame]
  24. Hey, pretty sure that lead bike is a Road Liner,, see the tank! http://www.go-faster.com/SS100/lake%20constance%20001.jpg
  25. Instead, I buy Cocoon's over glasses. Both sunglass and clear for night. They are much more solid than the Walgreens version (which the arms break). Find them in Bass Pro shops or go on line to Amazon, Sunglass Giant or Cocoons. You can buy "overs" that neatly fit over your glasses or buy bigger for more of a goggle. (I bought the wide-mid for sunglasses and the pilot for clear at night.) Just a thought, they're about $45.
