  1. That's been a couple of weeks now since Bill lowered my RSV. I'm still going "WOW what a difference". Wife is real happy too as she can tell I'm not stressing or straining at stops. At the Charlotte IMS they had a 2012 Venture. There was a fair amount of interest in lowering,,, done right. I wanted to say THANKS again to Bill Little ("Wildbill1"-Mooresville, NC- on this forum) and let any short legged riders within a few hours of Charlotte area know that there is someone in the area that can do this for a fair price. We did it in a day. Mike G in SC
  2. We stopped at a Sonic at the end of a club ride (like usual). Their promo was Happy Hour,,, buy one drink get one free. It was cold I ordered two coffees.... DID YOU KNOW THAT COFFEE IS NOT A DRINK?? Full price each. We went around on that one,,, I asked if coffee is not a drink what the *#$% is it,,, a sandwich? No one with enough authority to fix it. I was going to punch out the manager but she was wearing rollerskates! (kidding) Even sent a complaint to Sonic and the owner,,,, nada. Do we still go to SONIC???? well, yeah,, duh, we're bikers. (I think what is a drink is up to the local owner. One across town was cool on coffee.)
  3. 11:23 PM,, they're sending the drivers back to their cars. Looks like red flag will get over. Rain threat is passing. The track wasn't destroyed by the fire (so they say). Looks like they may get 200 laps out of it.
  4. Not tons of NASCAR fans here,,, But if you are,, the rain delayed Daytona 500 is starting now (Monday 7PM). On FOX. First time ever run at night (prime time). Mike G
  5. Does this just apply to metrics?
  6. THANK YOU!! Search here had always kicked my butt. And finally a compound search in single quotes like 'Russell day long" works! You just enhanced my $12, big time. Mike G
  7. I recently bought the new model Michelin Commander II rear. Delivered prices ran $148 to close to $200. I bought from Bike Bandit. They were right there with the lowest and seem to have very good customer service. (And I had a year old $15 coupon). At that time (last month) I tried to use Jake Wilson but I don't think they had the new model yet. Mike G
  8. Hey,,,, I see they blacked the bottom. I got mine about a year ago,,, still happy. Not the first scratch! But a complaint back then was that the bottom was not blacked out and you could see down into the fairing. Good move F4.
  9. Find someone who knows what they are doing to lower the front. I DID,,,, last Friday. Wow, that bike is now MINE! Bill Little (Wild Bill on this forum) is in NC (near Charlotte). Too bad he is not in your area. He knows his stuff. Me and his wife, Ruth, assisted. Took it down 1.5" and it makes a world of difference. I also have the rear lowered with the Baron's kit (but had custom dog bones made for 3/4"). So, yes, find someone to help and lower it. It's a one day change that will make it a whole different bike. A "kit" is not needed in the front. Baron's has front components available, but most do without. Below is my post on STAR Touring about it when someone asked HOW: You have to jack the bike, put some wood under the tire, remove the passing lamp assembly if you added one, "split" the fairing, pull the handle bars, pull the tripple tree, remove the fork covers,,,,,, then a few hours later you loosen the fork clamps and drop the bike on the forks,,,, 1.5". We ended up pulling the front tire to lessen the fight. Turn the shrader valves about 45 degrees out,,, if you plan to use them again (maybe add extensions to them). Then take all those parts over on the floor and put them back on. Bill is metecilus and skilled and (with the passing lamps) takes about 6 hours (two people). I would not attempt it myself,,, and I did stay in a Holiday Inn. I just came back from a local afternoon ride,,,, I LIKE IT!!! And I will probably have the kickstand shortened.
  10. Keep it simple. Go down to the Harley dealer, parts counter. Buy the pump they have. (Looks like the one Kirby has in the first link.) Use it as both guage and pump for front and rear shocks. Use a different guage and pump for tires. Mike G
  11. FROGMORE STEW = original name (because of outsiders- specifically Yankees, name variants are Beaufort Stew, Low Country Stew,, or Shrimp Boil) No frogs give their life for this carnation. Between the Atlantic ocean and Beaufort SC is a small Gullah town that WAS called Frogmore, SC,,, till outsiders (yep Yankees) moved in and didn't like the "silly" yet historic name. Now it's called St. Helena. This "shrimp boil", if you will, was coined there by the locals as Frogmore Stew. FROGMORE STEW Ingredients depend on # of people,,,, I have cooked for 20-30,,, but let's keep it down. Fresh shrimp, 1/2 lb per person. Heads off please,, you don't want to eat food that looks back at you. Polish or smoked sausage, 1/2 link per person. New potatoes, small round are best, say 6-10 per person. Corn on the cob, break in half, 2-4 per person. Can add blue crabs whole if you want,, that's old recipe stuff. But you woun't find those in the waters around Akron. News paper. For seasoning, Old Bay seafood seasoning,,some cut onions, red peppers (or a bit of Tabasco sauce), salt, can of a beer (have several on hand- or in hand). I prefer to cook on the burner outside (turkey cooker pan). Fill pot with water, put in seasonings, bring to a boil. Remember you are going to toss in stuff so don't fill the pot too high. Toss in in this order,, say 5-10 minutes apart,,, have another beer between each ingredient a) potatoes b) corn c) sausage & crab if you got one wait till last five minutes, then d) toss in the shrimp - I prefer to let the shrimp steep rather than hard boil. they will float to the top when they are dead (kidding). Just make sure they are done,, grab one, run it in cool water a few seconds eat it. Then, assuming this is a true "Throw Down",,, cover a picnic table with news paper,, drain the water and then dump the entire stew along the length of the newspaper. Now, grab a beer and everyone sit down and eat. Paper plates are best, a roll of paper towels,,, you need a bone yard for the shrimp peels and corn cobs. I take store cocktail sauce and add about 1/3 horse radish and some lemon juice (a splash of bourbon is good too, thanks Mom). Serious note: Warning,,, if you do this in the house you may want to hold off on beer in the stew. The alcohol will release the peppers to the air and create a light weight nerve gas that will make most start coughing. Took me several years to figure that out,,, it was the beer! Enjoy, Mike G in SC (grew up in Beaufort SC)
  12. Went there for bike week 5 or 6 years ago. The welcoming committee consisted of county cops at US#1 & 95 giving tickets for passing on the right. If you need gas at the station up on the right,, go ahead and sit in traffic for 1/2 hour and push the bike. Cause if you short cut it to get to the station you may have a deputy step out of the bushes and point his finger at you. That fill up cost me and my friend $120 each,,, besides the cost of the gas. Someone had a very good day,,,, and made lot's of money. But,,, other than that,,,, "Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln,,, how was the play?" Mike G
  13. Has anyone mentioned battery nut yet?
  14. Jack, Maybe it was "attached" but just had a pin instead of a lock? Else, your homeowners insurance will likely cover it up to your deductable. After the fact,,, but you can cover the trailer speciffically under it's own policy for damage and theft,,, very cheap. I have my utility trailer, that I paid about $1,200 for, insured on it's own policy ($250 deductable) for $14 per year, with State Farm. I did that because when I bought it several years ago there was a rash of trailer stealing at the big box stores. Also, if a friend borrows it and does serious damage,,, covered. Mike G
  15. Just had it done TODAY,,,, lowered the front! A week or two back I posted, looking form some one who knew what they were doing that could lower the FRONT of my RSV. I got a reply from Bill Little,,, Wild Bill (wildbill1) on this forum. We just spent the day lowering the front. Bill knows his stuff. He is a retired mechanic/engineer and lowered his Venture,, and did mine today. He lives near Mooresville, NC (Lake Norman) and said he is available if you want it done. His fee is very reasonable. Please email me (or PM) if you want to get this done. I'll put you in contact. He also said if you get the Baron's kit for the rear, he can do both front and rear,,, also for what I consider a good price. Wow,,,, what a difference. I've had the bike for over a year and TODAY, it's mine. Mike G in SC mikeginsc@bellsouth.net

  17. Like Randy says, get a different pump for the suspension than you would use for tires. Go down to the Harley shop and get their hand pump for this job. Else you may have regrets using a powered pump. And, by zero, means that you loose zero pressure when you disconnect. But the hand pump is not for tires,,, unless you got lots of time on your hands,,, which maybe right now you do. Mike G in SC
  18. Trike Conversion available - Hannigan A friend in the mid SC area who is a top notch bike mechanic asked me to post. If you are looking to trike your bike (Hannigan), he is setting up shop. I'm not looking, maybe later, but he told me that he will offer a generous labor discount for first customer. If interested, contact me and I'll hook you up with him. (no cut for me) Mike Griswold mikeginsc@bellsouth.net or call 803--420--3388. Mike G in SC
  19. Rick, I get more like 13,000 mi out of my rear Avons (on my RSTD). So a fair amount less than you. That's why I'm hoping for more miles. Mike G
  20. I went to Wright-Pat years ago. I liked it. I was in the AF from 69-74, did avionics/radar on the F105. But also a fun air museum is the AIR ZOO in Kalamazoo, MI. Yep, SR71! ,,,,, and a Hellcat like my Dad flew in WWII. Then me an a friend took a local fly-around town. Mike G
  21. I bought from Bike Bandit. Without the discount coupon I had it would have been $150 delivered. Took about a week from CA. Saw same price at a few others,, Amazon, MC Superstore. Got no complaints, it feels like the Avons I've had for years,,, GOOD. I got it hoping for more miles on the rear. Riding two bikes I won't know till late this year. Mike G
  22. I've had the Commander II rear on for a couple of weeks on my RSTD. Very happy,, would put it up there with the Avons. We'll see if it gets beter miles. Didn't need a front yet. I have the original Michelin Commander there. (Stock size). I've run the small and stock size on it. Prefer stock. Mike G in SC
  23. FLB-78, Got one of those installed on my RSTD a couple of months ago, at 75mph. But only the rear. In fact it lowered it enough to take out my oil pan when I went to trailer it! I also found out not to use the clumping kind of Kitty-Litter for oil. Hehe
  24. oh ! got me. LOL
  25. Thanks guys. still looking for someone a bit closer. Dealer will do but wanted a lot of shop hours. Where is Doodle's MD? Same on the lottery, if I win, then I would have time to travel too. Most I've won was $35 (not counting cost of $10 ticket). Thanks, Mike G
