  1. Yep, mono air shock. Run it 0-50 lbs (use a small Harley zero loss pump) PS: We were in Romney, WV a few weeks ago. The big dealer there was $17,950 on a new 2012 midnight, where the other dealer in Winchester, VA was sticker at $20,200, same bike. That's probably only a few hours for you.
  2. My dear old mom would always try to offer me bug repellant before I would hit the road to head home. I only tried to explain to her once that it don't work at 70 mph. She also suggested deer whistles. If it would bring her back,, I'd put some on.
  3. Awsome trip, great write up. Thanks for sharing it, Mike G in SC
  4. Bobby G. Try this one, it just worked for me: http://www.jmcorp.com/ProductDetail.asp?PF=6&ProductID=HDCH-990 And, this is the one I bought. Again, it's great,,, but the leather is thin and perhaps simulated. They say leather but (?). But it does just fine. Oh, and it has a deep rounded bottom sleeve to slip in behind the windshield. Again, you don't need to push it in as far as the screws, just enough to wedge it when you thghten them back up. Let me know if you want some pictures of it mounted. Mike G in SC (used to be Beaufort SC,,, you heard of that Marine?)
  5. Andy, I got myself the "Scala Rider G4 Powerset" for Christmas. It's the 2 set package. Thought I wanted to talk,,, nah. Hell, I don't even turn on my radio, CB or even that cassette thing. I wear half helmet and gave one set a 10 minute try in January. I have an I-phone and in my brief try, decided I was not interested. (With a half helmet, need to figure out how to put the speakers closer to the ears. Anyhow, the set sits here and I will probably not use it. I bought it at the Competition Accesories store in Rock Hill, SC. List was like $400. I got them down to $300 + tax, so paid $321 out the door. I can ship it to you for say $225. If your research says this is what will work for you and my pirce is good, contact me at mikeginsc@bellsouth.net I will probably put it in the classifieds soon, just wasn't motivated till I saw your post. 6. Both Kuryakyn and Baron's sell bar end weights for around $40. They are made to fit on the end of the Kuryakyn ISO's. I think the Kuryakyn ends are a little bit heavier of the two. But either is not near as heavy as the stock end weights. The Baron's are bullet points, the Kuryakyn are more flat ended. Both look good. When I first got ISO's on my RSTD I did a week or two without. Then had the stock weights shaved to fit. Yes, I could tell. Glad to have them. On my RSV, I went with the aftermarket for easy fit. The aftermarket ones simply use the four small screws and go in in minutes. Using the stock weights takes some grinding somewhere, either the weights or the grips. I think they are needed more on the RSTD than the RSV as the RSTD bars stick out wider.
  7. Minutes! Took out the two screws holding the chrome trim. Loosened the others then just slid it between the glass and the inside of the fairing. It will slide in there. Then just put it back together and tighten it back down. No need to put screws through it. It ain't going anywhere.. The center bag is kind of soft and tends to hide the speedo. Just push it back if it droops. Of course, carefull not to break the tabs on the trim. Mike G
  8. Oh, hey, that was my old thread. Yeah, I bought the one suggested by VR members. http://www.jmcorp.com/ProductDetail....uctID=HDCH-990 It is great in the shape and size. Holds my sunglasses center, camera on right, bike papers on left. It's from JP Cycles, called the Harley Bag. Say's leather,,, that is the only problem. Sure looks like they killed a small naguhide to me. It's a great bag but if that's true leather,,, not sure what they killed for it. Maybe a free roaming sofa. (but I would probably buy it again if I was looking) Mike G in SC
  9. Oh,,,, I just looked at the classified categories. The member vendor is titled "MEMBER VENDORS - VentureRider Members Products and Services". Bill, looks like that should be the place for your to post your services. Mike G.
  10. I needed to find someone to lower my bike earlier this year. I posted here on VR. Wild Bill (Bill Little, Lake Norman, NC) was the one in my part of the country who could do exactly what I needed and he PM'ed me through VR. I have since had a few others PM me after seeing my original post, looking for similar help. And I have HIGHLY recommended Bill. Perhaps a "Member Vendor - Offered Services" could more easily put them in touch. Thanks for the consideration, Mike G in SC
  11. I have a Harbor Frt w/Sears cargo, 12" wheels. Does fine at 65-70 MPH. Does fine at 80 on flat and up hill. But it may sway at above 70 headed downhill. 70 is fine. Problem is the Venture pulls it so easy, hard to remember 70.
  12. The news "almost" covered it. NBC said he was fired, offered his job back, and he said NO. Love to here more. I imagine some idiot boss is squirming about now. My dad was a pilot in WW2. Later he was training a student in FL (Stearman) and he saw another plane go down in the swamp. It was tail up and starting to burn, pilot unconscious. Pop had the student pilot, who had not solo'd invert so Pop could bail out and get down and pull the other pilot out. He did. Instead of commendation, he got nailed for leaving the student pilot in the air. But I think he got a wink from his commander instead of punishment. You do what is right.
  13. Rich, Lengthy PM sent to you. Squidley is in Cleveland TX above Houston. Read his reply to me earlier, perhaps he can help. Lowering the back is easier but alone tends to give undesired effect. I would lower the front first then consider the back. As noted above my RSV is now lowered 1 1/2" front and 3/4" rear. LOVE IT. Mike G in SC
  14. For next time,,, go buy a mechanics mirror (mirror on a stick). Like $7. That and maybe a flashlight will let you sit on it level and point the mirror and flashlight to see the window. Else get someone else to look while you hold it level. Mirror is best,,, then YOU know.
  15. Amsoil 10W40. Change around 7-8K miles. Amsoil says 9K is okay. Can change your filter half way if you want. I did bad math and went 13K once, oil was fine.) (They push 25k on cars if you use their filter) Current '06 RSTD 88k miles, current '09 RSV 38k miles, previous R* 54k miles & sold, previous Strat 46k miles and sold. Not cheap but goes a long ways safely.
  16. I pull a HF trailer when me and wife do a week and need "our stuff". But for long weekends this “cooler rack” avoids the trailer and keeps the weight off high. We’ve gone all through the Smokies and it does fine in the twisties. It’s a Rivco cooler rack with added light mount ( bright Harbor Frt LED trailer lights) and ring bolts for bungees . If you don’t do the lights, your cargo will likely hide your bike lights. The lights plug in just like the trailer. I had a fab shop bend the mount from a sheet of stainless. With the Kuryakyn bag it's about 25-30 lbs. Oh, or carries two good sized watermelons to a picnic. But, yes you don't want to put more weight than that. Some people who have seen it say, “Hey, I can make one of those!”. Good idea as I have about $240 in it, between $170 for the rack, lights $40, fab & hardware $30. But it sure is handy. 18. A friend of mine got one the day they came out. He had owned the old Voyagers years back and loved them. Well, not slamming my friend but he is one of those constant boasters, boasts 18 hours a day, but that's okay, good friend and mostly knows what he is talking about. Well in the months he owned the new one, I didn't hear constant boasting (about the bike anyhow). Later he got T-boned by a car ("I didn't see him!"), totaled the bike. He how owns HD and never looked back and rarely mentions the bike. I never asked what he thought about it, but his silence on the Voyager, to me, said a lot.
  19. I keep two cards, Navy Federal Credit Union (NFCU) and USAA. Got to be a veteran. No fees, decent interest and they don't screw around. I was talking to Choice Hotels last night about my "points". They guy then offered a gazillion points if I got a card through them - nope, not even for a gazillion points!
  20. Not sure why we got back to winter gear in May,, but, ski pants instead of chaps. Easier to put get on/off, lighter weight, bundles smaller for storage. Some come with some fabric inside the ankles. A fair pair is $60-$80. More 60 year old men die of heart attacks putting on chaps than you think.
  21. I have 89,000 miles on mine! Ultimate seat on my 2006 RSTD. I love mine, The rear is a bit hard for my wife. She likes the pillowtop on the RSV better.
  22. That looks like the one BoBo the chimp ditched in the armored car robery in Dearborn last week. He and a hippo named Agnes made a break from the circus, thus the broken frame. It may be wanted by the FIB. They are still looking for the pair, which should be easy to spot, even in Michigan.
  23. Ted,,,, I still got your brass bell,,, on the Dream (at 39k). My sister also gave me a St Christopher's gremlin bell, put it on the other side. So, question,,,, do you want me to mail your old bell back as you are riding again? Am I testing fate? It's yours for asking. Mike G in SC
  24. When I was stationed in Wichita, KS (keeping the VCong out of KS) some guy west of the river would start jacking his prices down, then the gas wars were on. Price then,,1970 was like .35-.40. They battled to .17/gallon once. Finally, the competing stations would line up around his station and continue to circle around and fill up,,,, taking their time with drops per pass. He would give up and do it again next month. That been happening much there lately????
  25. Ah, there is also a Cajun Crawfish Fest in Columbia,,, you might have been right at home! Mike G
