Looking at upper 70's through the weekend, maybe touch 80. Riding to Sadie Mae's Cafe, below Gaffney, SC (Wilkinsville) for some of the best and unusual southern cooking in SC. http://www.facebook.com/pages/Sadie-Maes-Cafe/166990409982077 For those who know Sadie's, she did move the restaurant back to the little yellow house in the country, not downtown Gaffney.

Do you have leather cover/tassles on the levers. I was having problems. Swore it couldn't be the tassles (catching wind). But I cut them off, so now I just have lever covers, and problem went away. But maybe a vaccum problem.

Just say no,,, on Ethanol 85. Only problem with the 100% station near me is that the pump is on the side of the building, so it gets very little turnover. So, although 100%, my guess is it could be a year old. But hard to find out. If you ase the owner any question, his answer is "Yes". He knows little other English.

Oh, Jim, as you are in Wisconsin, July 4th you don't have to Ice Fish! Actually, my wife is from Kalamazoo. We went there August to fish a medium lake (700 acres) where her friends park a RV. 4 days fishing and over 400 blue gills (shell crackers here). Just nightcrawlers, not all that fancy bass gear I used to buy. Cleaned over 200. Convinced me that I will get back to a boat before I retire. Mike G.

Jim, good going. Enjoy the rides. I got 2 years 4 1/4 months, more or less. Had several weeks of furloughs this year which only convinced me that I will be glad when it comes around. Mike G

Buck Roy, I wouldn't keep the jumpers, inflator or zero hand pump in the tool bag. They can hide in the bottom of you saddle bag. My Left saddle bag is for people stuff, my right saddle bag is for bike stuff (tools, jumpers, inflator, bungies, cleaner stuff). Trunk for other stuff and the trailer for my wife's stuff. Haha.

Planning a ride to the Ozark Mountains in Arkansas
Mike G in SC replied to FuzzyRSTD's topic in Watering Hole
Like Randy said,,, Harrison Arkansas. Try www.Harrisonarkansas.org . I have in my hands (right now) a really cool map flyer they have at rest areas of 7 great rides. Shortcut,,, http://harrisonarkansas.org./c_upe_view.php?id=34 go there!!! There was a really cool restaurant on Hwy 7,,, Cliff House. http://www.cliffhouseinnar.com/ they have an inn (I ate there but stayed in Branson) Also, Southwest MO from Branson west past Wheaton,,, where my dad grew up, has some great rollercoaster roads. I'm used to the Smokeys rides. But Ozarks were different, not as high, but really cool twistie whoop-ti-doo roads. Got to love it. Mike G -
Stock Pillow Seats?
Mike G in SC replied to Wayne McClain's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I'd give it a 95%,,, good beat, easy to dance to! Oh, that's a 95% fit on the RSV. It has a front strap that you put under the front of the seat so it stays. But the back Velcro at the tail end is useless as there is nothing to hook to on the RSV. But it has a semi-rubber backing and stays in place. The size of the "large" is just perfect for the RSV pillow front seat, and probably any Star seat. But, it is obvious that it is a pad and not one with the seat. As for the HD logo, that's real small, same color black and barely visable. It's on the back of the seat where your tail bone would be,,, so,, someone would have to be looking mighty close. I only leave it on there if my butt is on it anyhow. So, my RSV has HD mufflers and a HD cush and a HD air pump. But, I don't wanna-be, and I don't worry-be. I just be. Mike G.- 22 replies

I have the Baron's 4-2-4 on my RSTD and it is loud. After a 4+ hour ride, when I get home it takes a half hour for hearing to get back to normal. But darn, they sound great with the V4. But the RSTD is my solo, local ride. My RSV is my toruing bike, but the stock is too quite and lets you hear too much sewing machine. I tried a few sets of mufflers (Khromewerks, Baron's) that were too loud for touring. I also listened to a few that others like, louder than I want. So, I got a set of 1995 RK mufflers (no cat conveter), from this forum. These are really great for what I want for touring. I can go all day with no hearing issues but still sounds great. Someone on e-Bay sells some chrome clamps on E-Bay for $36 that work great with them. Oh, no rejet if you are only replacing the mufflers. Might be different if you replaced pipes too. Mike G.

Buck Roy, For the oil sight glass, more tools,,,, get a mechanics mirror (mirror on a extension stick) and a small flashlight. You can sit on the bike to level it and if light is low, aim the flashlight down the mirror to see the level. On jump charging: bike to bike, pull the seats and use the jumpers with other bike running. If you are jumping a bike from a car, best turn the car off to decrease the output. The pump kit has a adapter that you attach to the battery posts but I've found it does not carry the amps to use for jumping a bike. But compared to a car, those little jumper cables do just fine on a bike. Mike G.

David, Yes, I see the bike pic. You may be seeing the RED X. You can Google to see how to get rid of it (security setting?), but maybe click this link. It should be the top left picture. http://www.google.com/search?q=2006+royal+star+tour+deluxe+colors&hl=en&tbo=u&rls=com.microsoft:en-us:IE-Address&rlz=1I7PRFB_enUS502&tbm=isch&source=univ&sa=X&ei=j9naUKe_K4rE0AHZ3IGIBA&ved=0CDIQsAQ&biw=1920&bih=930 Mike G PS: The Road Star was a great bike I put 54K miles on it. When I first rode the RSTD, I thought it was a boat for the first day,,, but real quick it turned into my favorite. Yeah, you're going to really like the RSTD and pray they never drop the V4. And, that must be a Midnight you're looking at. Later you may want to keep an eye out for a used Ultimate Seat set.

David, This is a stock 2006 Midnight RSTD. I think 2006 had a Midnight, a white and a red/black (can't swear to the black/red). I have the below bike,,,, BUY IT if decent shape and price. I had a Midnight Road Star, seems like it said Midnight on the speedo. But I just looked all over mine and don't see the name other than Tour Deluxe on the saddlebags and Royal Star on the tank sides. The model number on my registration says XVZBCTMV,,,, if that helps(?). Besides the tool kit,,, I also carry a small set of jumper cables and a well contained mini-air pump in my saddle bag. Oh and the sticky-rope type tire patch kit. I suggest O'Reilly's for the pump and the cables. They carry the pump and cables below. Both are small but good quality. More often than not, I use them to help friends on club rides. http://images.oreillyauto.com/parts/img/large/ss/01413.jpgprevioushttp://images.oreillyauto.com/parts/img/large/sli/40001_v1_20100629.jpg http://images.oreillyauto.com/parts/img/large/xts/15-001.jpg

Stock Pillow Seats?
Mike G in SC replied to Wayne McClain's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
But come to think (it's winter now, forgot about HOT), in the summer, if I do go into a restaurant I may throw a towel out of my saddle bags over the seat, or even the helmet helps some. As for a l-o-n-g ride, l did buy a Harley D waffle seat pad for a straight thru 1000 mile ride last fall. 18 hours later, just fine. http://www.harley-davidson.com/media/images/productphotos/PNA/51076_09_M_250d4.jpg Size large fits RSV http://www.harley-davidson.com/gma/gma_product.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524448774082&default=none- 22 replies

Miles, On lowering the front of the RSTD,,,, You are right about lowering the front,,, max of 3/4". It will not go the full 1 1/2" that the Venture will go. We tried that, put it back together and found out the handlebar hits the schrader valves, almost an inch too high. Had to tear it back down and do again. You can get 1/2" with no problem. But seems like to get it to 3/4", we also had to take the two big washers in each tube and modify one (enlargen the hole or grind it down-don't remember) and swap them to reverse which one was up/down. Doing that did get us the 3/4", and my schrader valves are almost touching the bars, maybe a credit card width between. (But are useable.) I also put the Barons kit on the rear but had a local fab shop make links that were half way between the stock and Barons length. That also then put the rear down 3/4". I found that the 1 1/2" on the rear dragged the mufflers on my RSTD and my RSV. I would send you my stock links but I might get taller if I ever grow up. But, actually if you got a fab shop to do that, you might not need the calliper relocation bracket. (I did use the bracket as I already had installed it.) SO, just wanted you to know that 3/4" is the max you can get on the front of the RSTD and you may have to swap out the two washers to get that. But, it is worth doing. It was just what I needed to get flat footed. Mike G PS: I think I did do a cardboard template of the three lengths (stock, mid and lowered) rear links. You may want the one in the middle. I could measure and photo that and you could use the measurement of the center of the bolt holes if you wanted to go to a local fab shop to get a set made. I think one shop charged me $20 for the set, another charged me $40. (I did same on my RSTD and my RSV.) Oh and if you have a shop make them,,, make sure the dude knows to make TWO. My last guy was proud of his work, looked perfect. Then I said, "Where's the second one, I need a pair?" He looked embarrsed for a minute and said, "Can you come back tomorrow?"

My mom zinged me once (well often really). She had been shopping, spent a couple thousand on jewelry, handbags, shoes and such,,, but all at really good prices. I asked her "Nice Mom, but what are you going to do with all that money you're saving?" She didn't miss a beat and said, "Why, Mike, that's your inheritance."

Like Randy, I do own and ride both, 2006 RSTD (93k miles) and 2009 RSV (43k miles). MOST IMPORTANT THING ABOUT BOTH IS, THE V4!! During the time I've had the bikes I also had a Road Star and a Stratoliner. Also great bikes but,,, ain't got that V4. Even though my RSTD has the Ultimate Seat pack, my wife was never good for duration rides. When I got the RSV, that changed. So, for comfort, the RSV wins out, both rider and passenger. Not just seats but also that fairing takes out more wind, cold and wind noise. (but I never use the radio/system, most do.). As for the ride, both of mine are lowered front and rear (for 29" inseam). I did have the RSV seat cut down to lower, but that just gave me a thinly padded seat for little difference in inseam. I ended up getting the seat built back up. The rear on both have the Baron's kit, BUT, I had a fab shop make links half way between, so lowered 3/4" only. Just lowering the rear may help you get feet on the ground but this increases the rake, giving less steering control and more likely will drag mufflers. For the front, the RSV is lowered the full 1 1/2" and the RSTD is lowered somewhere between 1/2" to 3/4". (But on my RSV, once I lowered the front, I put the rear back to stock height. That worked great.) If you have not lowered but need to (due to inseam),,, let my experience tell you, LOWER THE FRONT first. Then see if you still need to lower the rear. (There is a tech thread on this forum on "how to", or like I did, find someone who can do it for you.) So, cutting back to subject, I use my RSTD for my solo bike, daily commute. I have the louder mufflers and it's my GO BIKE. It's a Midnight and looks good. It does have a little easier handling between the two. Made me fall in love with the V4. But, if I am two up or on a distance ride, the RSV is my comfort bike. It does not take long for me to jump on the RSV and think, "Hey, this is all I need!" I settled on a set of Road King mufflers, to be just a bit deeper but not loud. It has the same power as the RSTD but I use it more for distance and comfort. If my wife said I had to get rid of one,,,,,, well, I would miss her. Mike G in SC

I was just about to warn you about I-95. Just had a friend do that through Jax on up. He said it really sucked, through 3 states. So, your rescheduling is GOOD. I grew up in the Beaufort/Hilton Head area. The STAR chapter in the area are friends. When you go, if you want a local phone#, let me know. Mike G in SC
