  1. If you are following a group at night, you can turn off the passing lamps (if they are bugging the riders in front). There is a small push button in the fairing, near the 12V outlet on the left. Oh, and there is a 12V outlet on the left in the fariing,,, near the little button. You can move the trunk and passenger back rest back one inch if desired. Takes little time or knowhow. Just pull the screws and slide it back. You will need 4 longer bolts with nugs. Watch out about the communication cable under the passenger seat, it may pop loose. (this is probably written up in TECH). (oh,,,,, already noted above.) If you have daytime glare in your windshield from the gas cap, cover it. I had a fancy gas cap cover, someone stole it. Now I have a cut up sock on it. No one steals the sock!
  2. Take Imodium with you ,,,,, and,,,, take it FIRST.
  3. His work is for sale,,,, that one is sold. Cost is about same as a 2010 RSV. http://www.howeart.net/
  4. WoooHooo! Hey, if you find a roundabout going the other way, you may find several drivers who are going the WRONG WAY!!! What's fun is to lead a group ride into one and circle a couple times, no notice.
  5. I've got coverage on my utility trailer. cost $7 for 6 mos.= $1000, $250 deduct. (so $750). Mainly for theft. When I got it there was a rash of trailer theft at box stores. But also if I lend it and the borrower is not inclined to pay, it will. (I don't tell them about it though).
  6. Also, the plastic around the gas cap can get a high frequency hum. Bad on my RSTD. I just need a "round-toit" to fix it. (not your key fob?) On the road, push your feet on the sides of the front cowlings or crash bars, both and each. See if this suppresses it. On one of my bikes seemed to clear doing that. But it started when they worked on it. No reason to think an unrelated rattle would suddenly show.
  7. Bob, Got your email,,, sounds like "dibbs" to me. Mike G.
  8. For anyone not named Larry,,, I just posted a similar seat in the classifieds. Not as new but good price. Same problem, does not fit me. Classified link: http://www.venturerider.org/classifieds/showproduct.php?product=4690&title=travelcade-road-sofa-saddlemans-for-rsv24130&cat=7 Mike G in SC
  9. Don, Hey thanks, I will give that a try. Alcohol,,,, never thought of putting it on the windshield! Hic,,,. Mike G in SC
  10. Sounds like "an ideal situation" for the board room!!!! Or arguments with the wife, children,,,,,,,,,
  11. I sold my Strat to get a RSV. It's that simple.
  12. Georgebill, You got a new pump, so should be good for life. But, search how to bypass the pump to "GRAVITY FEED" on this forum. Basically you reroute the gas line from the tank to the carb input. You can then run till you can sort it out. This would avoid worry about sitting on the side of the road. More than that, fears of someone towing a bike. Mike G.
  13. Al, When I replaced mine. the stock disks looked fine. But as I had already bought new (Yamaha) disks for the job, replaced them while he was there. I was mainly interested in replacing the plate with the Barnett. I'm sure we could have left the old disks, but this just assured me I should never have to do it again. Mike G.
  14. Several have also had to replace fuel pumps and stators. (I have) Not sounding like reliable,,, but they are!
  15. Brian, Flier says Oct 12, 2013 at the dealer in Peoria, IL. Flier below. Got mine,,, Mike G. http://www.startouring.org/forum/attach.aspx?a=5269
  16. In SC I can stick a cardboard tag that says "TAG ON OTHER CAR". LOL (no tag needed on trailer)
  17. Looks like a cell phone I had 15 years ago,,, and about the same size! lol
  18. Fortunately, Yamaha makes high mileage, dependable bikes. Riding two Royals, I figure I will get several more years out both. particularly my '09 RSV. And, when that shows it's age, might pick up a used 2013. If Yamaha comes around by time I am looking, good. If they don't, I will simply buy the best "Touring Bike" out. Mike G.
  19. I just found out a few weeks ago that they can ride two wide in SC. Now how do you expect to get around two bikes doing 20 in a 45 zone. That's CRAP. What happened to SHARE THE ROAD.
  20. My 2006 RSTD got that way. Pretty well had to shut it off to get neutral, even if I just wanted to do so at a stoplight. I don't remember when it happened but it was not like that when I bought it used at 17k miles. At about 50K miles I had a friend put in new clutch parts and the Barrett plate. Clutch was not slipping but wanted better performance. Well, after that was done, finding neutral was fixed. It may not take that, but that's what did it for me. Mike G
  21. A mind is a horrible thing!
  22. At least HD appears to print what they are going to do. So far looks like we have to figure Yamaha out by what they don't say, by posting what's left or new. "But there is no joy in Mudville — mighty Casey has struck out."
  23. Looks like you know your V-Star. I looked on eBay and found same model seats for a V-Star 1100 Silverado. Now I will probably try to sell them local instead of shipping back to WI. The PO is a nice guy and probably has been through various Yamaha's over the years. He just forgot to make sure he marked them right years ago. I think I have a shed full of seats and mufflers too. Thanks again, Mike G.
  24. Joe, Shoulda sold me that trailer,,lol. I just towed my new/used trailer last weekend. No problem with interstate speeds. Probably did 80, didn't think about it. But, definitely not limited. Same pulling my HF trailer.
  25. Hey Bill, Good to hear from you. I kinda figured you probably got a new shinny black Harley. Sounds really nice. Yours was the RSV I was thinking of. Someone got a sweet ride! Oh, and just bought a box of filets last week! Enjoy the ride. Mike G.
