  1. I've been thinking on it too,, for some time. But my RSV is "mostly" for two up and includes a lot of interstate. I've seen a few advise if it's mostly interstate,, maybe not. I would probably enjoy it more for my RSTD which is mainly solo and shorter rides. But would sure like to see what that gear box feels like in the mountains. I don't like having to drop to first on switchbacks. Seems like on my Road Star and Strat, mountains were quicker. You are in Spartanburg area, might pay off for you. But, like said,,, see if you are happy with what you got. Mike G. EDIT: I'm putting the link to the vendor who sells the rear end,,, So I can find it again later. http://rmsportmax.com/gateway.html
  2. Look for the last year of black on a RSV, hope the first buyer bought it 3 or so years after it was on the floor so it still has a few years of warranty. But maybe the ones I got will hold on. Otherwise get old and get a Honda trike.
  3. Got a 2006 RSTD Midnight with high 90k miles and a 2009 RSV with high 60k miles. Both in the carport now, ride both all year. Had a Strat and a Roadstar but one Royal lead to another. Had a few Hondas and Kawasaki's over the years. Pretty happy with the Royals.
  4. This is turned into a podium. As this subject always does. (and not meaning to insult,, I quit reading some time back.) If you trust your IT guy ask him for a plan B. If you don't trust him find another,,, or wait,,,,,,,,, This is your business, spend your money,,, wisely. If you don't know how to do it, you pay someone to do it. (like me and my bike)
  5. SC was first designed in 1775. Current flag was 1861. It has the deep blue of the Militia. Has the Palmetto Tree. Early forts were built with it because it is very resilient & can take a beating. What looks like a crescent moon is actually part of an early uniform (gorget), a piece to protect the neck/upper chest from getting stabbed. It is real popular with SC flag wavers. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/6/69/Flag_of_South_Carolina.svg/750px-Flag_of_South_Carolina.svg.png
  6. Too funny!! In the early 70's when Disney World just opened my dad came back with the same problem!! He said if he ever heard that,,,,%*$ happy song again, he might kill someone!
  7. Riding hard across country, after about 16 hours,,, it was two more hours of CHARLIE BROWN! Oh, crap,,, it's coming back to me,,,,,, Why's everybody always picking on me? [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_UnPzp2lmNk&feature=kp]The Coasters - Charlie Brown - YouTube[/ame]
  8. When you do get the tire on the bike, you will like the Michelin CII. I got between 20 & 22K miles on my first one on my RSV (and could have rode more). Usually got 13-15K on the Venoms. Good handling always even is last miles. Got them on rear of both Royals. Wish they would make a stock front. SO, I put E3 on front for both bikes. Seems to be a great match. Pack a chute!
  9. Missing parts? http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/5/5c/C-3PO_droid.png
  10. When I got my used 2006 RSTD in 2007 it had the small front. And when time to replace I put on another. But next time, after a comment from a tech, I went to the stock size. I had about a day to get used to it and past that, really prefer the stock size. Sounds like you may have got the wrong size when ordering,, but give it a go. It will be fine and safe. So, will be curious to hear your comment when you have used it a few days and,,,,,when you replace it to see what you order. Mike G (reading your last post,, the additional weight on the RSV is all above the center of gravity. I have both bikes,,, I call the RSTD the "little bike" and the RSV the "big bike" when my wife asks which bike I'm taking.
  11. Dion, Yeah,, Logo. Look at the link page to Avon. http://www.avonmotorcycle.com/ About an inch down the banner changes pictures. Look at the one that shows top half of an "AVON AV60". It has a snake head logo near top, on tire surface. Mike
  12. The bike did not come with Avon's, so at 10k miles on the ODO, this would be 2nd rear tire. How many miles on the tires? Is the front Avon too? And as noted, tire looks like flat wear,, no wear on sides. Oh,,,,, you're in Florida,,, yeah,,, head north. When you get flat wear, they will not be comfortable at low speed turns as the wear further. Might up the pressure. I usually got 13-15K miles on Avon rear. DJH3, If I remember, the chink may be a logo mark. Seems like I remember Venoms having them (?). (change your window zoom to, like 300.) I see you are FL too.
  13. Brian, no problem, Avons ride good and they wear good. You rarely hear someone complain about their ride. I had one go bad (pinhole) out of, probably 6 pair,, and Avon owned up quick. I switched to E3 front and MC2 rear when MC2 came out. (I tried, & don't ride the small front anymore). Will go with MC2 front if they make stock size. Mike G.
  14. Avon's are good,, but some do crack. I had one front that got a bead crack (or hole), slow leak, 2lbs a day. The dealer found it and called Avon. It was just enough tread,,, Avon replaced it free, with over 10k miles. Yours looks like a lot of tread. Can't tell how bad the cracks are, surface or deep? Any leaking.
  15. Got chaps, in the closet. Switched to Ski Pants about 5 years ago. Got a $60 pair. Inner calf has some material that is good for pipes and includes lower zippers. They bundle real small and light weight. Keeps wind out of your privates too. But usually I ust wear poly-thermals under the jeans if its like 50. More 60 year old men die of heart attacks putting on chaps than most any other exercise.
  16. ACE50 , Tim, Hey, I may want to do that this spring or summer,,, if okay. Have thought about doing the Venture. I know about where you are, visited Reidsville Gold Mine a couple of times. (I'll post this now so later I can look up my posts and remember "who said".) Too bad that little diner at the crossroads near the mine is closed,, was great BBQ. ("Rachel's" I think, was an old gas station.) Thanks, Mike G.
  17. I had not made comment,,,, but just noticed,,, over 2500 hits (views) on this subject,,,, "A generation, Lost in Space..."
  18. Check with the dealer. It MIGHT still have warranty. RSV & RSTD come with 5 year from the date FIRST sold to first owner. So, a 2008 wth that extreem LOW mileage may have been first sold a couple of years later. (sat at the dealer a year or three,,,, happens.) If it was not sold new till after Feb 2009, it may still have a transferable warranty. The dealer can tell in seconds with the VIN. At most warranty transfer may be $50 or free if dealer wants to see a bike. Welcome, Mike G
  19. I watched the game. Well,,, it watched me in the 4th,,,zzzzzz. Kristofferson ain't done much right after he fooled around on Rita Coolidge (Who Leon Russell wrote a song, Delta Lady about). IMOH. Guess the game wasn't so bad.
  20. If the rain is not a downpour, it did okay. But Those times you are just SOL and have to ride and flat interstate is flooded and your tires are pearling like a surfboard,,,,, not so good. The "raincoat" is a plastic membrane with elastic,, like a shower cap with a bunch of tiny holes. Never have problems with the standard RSV and RSTD. But looking at the pics, the intake is still behind the RSV cowling,,, may give it some protection.
  21. Looked at Facebook this morning. As I have never used the cassette player on my RSV, this seems like it might work!
  22. I had the Big Air kit, ported manifold and such stuff on my 2001 Road Star. Should have left well enough alone. The BAK came with a "raincoat" to put on in rain. I often just left it on. Ran same with it. And then, yep, had to ride through a white squall around Chattanooga. It was all I could do to keep it running on the interstate. When I got to my stop, it took quite a while and an old school rider to make it run again. It dried out on the trip back to SC. Never had the a rain problem with leaving the stock boxes on my Royals.
  23. Did that (at least) once. I pushed a fat boy on a Fat Boy few years ago. He asked me for a push at the post office, I offered to jump it. Nah,,, it'll start right up. On 3rd push, he goosed it as soon as it started. Bastard didn't hardly even wave back as he left while I was on all 4. Had to scope the knee later that year. Heal up,, that one hurt.
  24. One of us asked for a link on "WHO SAID?". Here's one article and it links to HP home sales,, featuring "Windows 7 is back". They still feature W8 boxes but sounds like they are expanding back to 7. I get Dell promos weekly that make 7 available (to order from Dell, not on the shelf). Dell usually offers W7 Home Premium on retail site, but can get PRO and Ultimate if you dig. Would not be surprised to see Best Buy start same soon. Maybe they will kick in a cassette player! http://www.theverge.com/2014/1/20/5326844/hp-brings-back-windows-7-by-popular-demand HP: http://www.hp.com/country/us/en/hho/welcome.html HP Desktops: http://www.shopping.hp.com/en_US/home-office/-/products/Desktops/Desktops
